    Bought >100 blond duckies (mostly adults) from a kid who was tired of the hobby. Figured on selling some, but I’ve enjoyed them so much I’m in no hurry to see them go. No idea how many are now in the main bin, but seeing 1st graders, 5th graders etc. together is a lot of fun. My son got me started so it gives us something else to talk about. Thanks for this! 😃👍 Some of it I knew, but even that wasn’t organized like this video.

    I started with a dozen about a year ago and now I’m at just over 105 individuals. How do I know how many I have? I’ve been transferring them one by one to a new bin because a bunch of baby powder blues showed up in the duckie bin 😭

    • @juicesarthropods
      @juicesarthropods  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have bad news...you count them 😭. OR you can put out their favorite meal, wait 20 minutes then come move the entire piece of butternut squash or whatever vegetable you put down and count them as you pick them off it. I would literally use a sieve and strainer them out of soil rigorously for hours in the beginning if rehousing and wanting EVERY baby.

    Great video! I have some duckies being shipped to me next week, and I’ve been trying to drop the humidity in my terrarium but it remains around 100%. Any tips for dropping the humidity? It has one ventilation hole but I can’t add more because it’s glass

    • @juicesarthropods
      @juicesarthropods  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So first Id ask; what device is saying 100% humidity? That seems pretty hard unless its one of those like circular hygrometers. Id highly recommend Govers thermometer/hygrometers, they sell them on Amazon, often in a three pack. One thing you could do as a temporary fix is put a fan on it, or add a heating pad to the SIDE of the enclosure if glass and sizable enough?

  • @VLV07
    @VLV07 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Excellent informative video.
    What range of humidity are good? I have them as a pet in a terrarium with good ventilation, and humidity is 85% during the day and even more at night. I bought two mini fans and I turn it on to lower the humidity but I can’t find in internet what is the appropriate range for them.
    Also I live in California, and my home gets hot in those summer days. I read about putting ice packs inside the terrarium and I can lower the temperature in 3 degrees with a little one.

    • @juicesarthropods
      @juicesarthropods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I have around 50-60% humidity but honesty 70-mid 80s should be fine! Whats WAAAAY more crucial I have found is proportionate ventilation to humidity ratio, and ensuring proper moisture to avoid dessication. Whats the temps youre seeing in summer? Id avoid ice packs unless theyre maybe touching the outsides only because isopods are adorable idiots and will freeze to death on them without even knowing why haha

    • @VLV07
      @VLV07 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the response.
      I’m in LA, here we could have over 90 degrees easily or even close to 100s. But this year looks like we will have between 70s-80s , fingers crossed 😄
      I bought 6 rb and received them a week ago. They arrived alive. But noticed their colors are not that brighten like yours, some have the head color like a transparent yellow. Is this bad?

    • @juicesarthropods
      @juicesarthropods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VLV07 So, not bad - but sometimes what happens is either the person either didnt add new genetics in for a prolonged period of time OR their conditions werent ideal. Give them some time, offer calcium through eggshells or cuttlebone and let me know if they improve in a month!

    Are there specific terrariums they would do well in

    • @juicesarthropods
      @juicesarthropods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend anything with a decent ventilation. So anything you can either manually drill holes into the side and top of, or something that comes equipped with it. Or for $5 you can make the bins I make for each of my isopods (my isopod/millipede substrate video shows how to make them, it won't let me link it here for some reason)
