I have a arcade 1up modded with a pi4b using two sj@jx led encoder boards and they work for individual players but sometimes they will hold a direction from the joystick when the joystick is not being pressed for around 2 seconds. Have been dealing with this for two years and it's made me basically stop playing the machine as it messes up your gameplay. Can not find any information about it except that the pi4b may not be supplying enough power to the encoder boards. May try the new pi brand USB hubs that can be pre powered to see if that helps. Any other ideas?
Thanks so much for this. I have spent all day trying to figure this out when the instructions mention the inputs are not specific. Works for 2 player EG starts in a cabinet.
Just installed my new arcade usb controller. Any idea why my joystick is only recognizing up. When trying to do button mapping in batocera l cannot map left, right or down. Nothing happens. All the other buttons work well. It is connected with 5pin connector.
Hi Chase, Very grateful for this video, I had my controllers wired differently. I have now fixed that, however I am still having a BIG problem. My controllers are being detected inconsistently on boot up, some times only 1 controller is detected, some times both. They also seem to get swapped over etc. I have made sure the controllers are both wired identically and I have so far tried Recalbox and Batocera to see if it makes a difference, no luck. Do you have any advice for this? I am using a Raspberry Pi 5 Any help is much appreciated, I have been tearing my hair out over this. Thanks.

Thanks for this. I threw together a cabinet out of scrap wood with just 1 player and it worked fine. Then I built an actual cabinet with 2 players and it went wonky. I just assumed it didn't matter what slot they go into.
So, in the case where 2 buttons have to be pressed at the same time for super power movesm would the problem be the encoder or the buttons themselves? Every button works and regular moves work... only when 2 have to be pressed at the same time. TIA.
what i cant seem to find out is how to wire the admin buttons (go back, pause, exit game, menu, shutdown etc) if all players should have identical wiring. anyone know?
I’m having an unusual problem, I have a virtual pinball table that I built for my dad, hooked the buttons up to a USB encoder. All the connections are tight and hooked up to the appropriate ports, although whenever I turn on the computer and press any of the buttons it disconnects the encoder from the PC and after hitting the buttons a second time it reconnects the encoder to the PC. Every one of the buttons does this I’m super confused why it’s doing this and can’t find anybody online that mentions having this problem.
So I have a 4 gamepad setup with 4 usb encoders. All same model, all plugged in the same. However 2 of the player gamepads are bugged. The joysticks work on all 4, the led lights work on all buttons but the actually buttons don't respond on 2 of the gamepads. It's weird because the joysticks and lights work, so they clearly have power and are recognized by retropie as it says "4 gamepads detected" but the buttons are unresponsive on 2 of the 4
@Retro Gaming Guy I did for 1 and 4, put 2 and 3 the buttons don't respond to even initiate the mapping process. Just the joysticks. And just to make sure the mapping process is the screen where you push buttons to map controls right? Thanks for your help
Hey, retro game guy, so I just got this arcade guys cabinet from someone. I brought it home. I was configuring the joy cons then all of us sudden I guess the “A” button during configuring wasn’t selected… after that I’m not able to try resetting it or trying to configure it back because I’m not able go into the next page without the A button not being able to be pressed from the joy cons. Hey Guy, great vid as usual. I modified my Arcade1Up X-Men 4 player cab and installed Batocera PC. I mapped my controls in Batocera's menu for player 1, by the time I get to player 4 my player 1 controls are jacked up. Player 1 and 2 are 8 buttons and 3 and 4 are 4 buttons. What can I do to fix this? I have looked at the wiring and rewired. Any other solutions?
I am having an issue similar but not exactly. When using the same exact USB encoders you're using is the only time this happens. I will map the buttons, everything works fine, ill load into any game and immediately I lose mapping on one of the sets of buttons. When I go to remap it again it has created a new input save. I found this out after being on gamepad 13. I have checked my wiring but it is exactly as you say.
Do you have select and start in separate emulators across input 1 and 2? I'm having an issue where Lakka doesn't register the mapping. I'm also curious to which slots you assign the insert coins buttons on the front of your arcade? Any advice greatly appreciated 🙏
Hi, I’m having an issue with player 1. It reading the joystick input for Down. This started happening a week ago , the system has been running great for 2 years with no issues. At first I thought it was the micro switches so I ordered new ones and same problem. Could it be my USB encoders?
Why would when holding foward or back in say street fighter...i cannot roll the stick to down foward or down back? I cant duck while holding foward, i have to return to neutral to get a different direction to input? Any idea whats causing this?
I have one small issue regarding encoders. Never had this on other mods. Can you please tell me why my encoder board light is switching from red to blue after starting up pc? When light is blue , none of the buttons work. In order for light to go back to red, I either have to unplug power going to encoder or have a button going to the RES slot to switch it back. Thanks

When I have arcade joysticks plugged in the emulec screen reboots 2 to 8 times before starting up which can take 5 minutes or more also happens when exiting a game. But it work on the menu screen. Do you think it’s a problem? Do I need to have 2 encoder must be the same brand ? Thank you
