Thanks for the information! I had the same issue, but I am running retropie on top of a Linux mint installation. In my case, I had to edit the /etc/default/grub file and add the usbhid.quirks statement to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT variable. After making the change, I ran update-grub and rebooted. At that point both controllers worked perfectly.
This is exactly what I'm experiencing. Just done my 1st arcade/retropie mod and everytime I'm booting up with encoders plugged in I'm running into this issue of emulationstaion crashed. Thank god you've done this video. I will try all of this tomorrow because my head is buttered.tried all night to figure out what I done wrong. Been on for hours and got stressed. Hopefully this solves it for me
I just put my microSD card into the computer, opened boot, and added the ( usbhid.quirks=0x0079:0x0006:0x00000400 ) cmdline.txt. That seemed to do the job. As far as I can tell.

This is a great video and was super helpful to understand what is going on. Unfortunately I have to be the one comment to say it didn’t work for me. I found the arcade kit code for the unit I bought and used that code with no luck. I built 3 cabinets and all are having the same issue. In the end it only crashes when the usb controllers are plugged in. Any other ideas would be super helpful. Thanks.

I have a remade PS2 Controler for my RasPi Retro Pi station, and if I pull the right analog stick while beeing in the main Menue, Retro Pi crashes. I'm very new to all of this and I haven't tried it while playing a game, because I haven't installed any emulators yet. Is it likely that this issue could be fixes with the same fix presented in the video?
I’ve been using my Pi3 model b for a while now and ever since the upgrade to Retropie 4.8, it’s been crashing. My gpu is over clocked to 1500 with over voltage 6. However, mine crashes differently from yours. It boots up fine but while in emulation station, it tends to freeze up randomly. Sometimes in the games list, sometimes just while just in the console selection menu. I’ve ran Retropie with different themes and didn’t make any difference. My set up is like yours with the Comic Crazy theme with box art and snap videos. Any suggestions? Thanks.
So this fix was a life saver for me when the rev 1.4 boards came out for me. I got my first rev 1.5 board and it no longer works. I was wondering if there was a revised/updated text that needs to be entered in the cmdline.txt file to account for the Newer boards…

I think you didn't do the first Part where he Sets the root password. You need to Do this to have the permission to save the New Code. Just follow the instructions step by step from beginning to end and you will be fine.

Retroarch even sees it as recognised. Second controller just won't recognise on emulation station/retropie. So will not move at all? Any ideas mate?

Last weekend I tried to boot mine up and it was a black screen. I was freaking out. So I restarted it. But I couldn't shut it off the normal way so I was worried that I broke it. Then it came up again and it wouldn't recognize the controller. So I had to restart it again. It finally worked but I have had it since last spring of 2021 and this is the first time I really had any issues so I was kind of worried it was broken. So far so good

I play fighting games online in my PC and I built this arcade stick controller with this product. My joystick and buttons work in input configuration for the game I’m in , but when the match starts the joystick is no response.
My screen was sideways. So I did the F4 and rotate3 to rotate the screen. After I rotated the screen now my buttons and arcade sticks won’t work. It’s on a Pac-Man arcade 1up. Know of any solutions?? The buttons and sticks worked fine when screen was sideways.

Any recommendations for batocera on the pc? Newest versions from v36 and up have made using zero delay encoders a real issue.

My retropie doesn't show the wifi menu.
mine was the same in the retropie menu, there's a wifi option at the bottom where you can get the ip address
