  • Here I show you the process to repair your worn rear hub on your EZGO golf cart. This same process works on most other manufactures carts as well but EZGO is known for this problem. This is for all years gas and electric/battery carts. Some models will have a larger shaft and possibly a separate hub and drum but the process is exactly the same.

    Update 6/23/20: Someone asked about torque spec for the castle nut. Per the shop manual it is 90-140 ft. lbs. Never back the nut off to fit the castle nut, just tighten to the next notch.

    Great video and presentation. Thanks for going into such great detail. Changing from reverse to forward (or forward to reverse) while still rolling will cause this to happen. This would be a good time to put fresh brake shoes too. They are cheap and easy to change with the drum already off.

    I like how you added the tools you used at the end of it. Why what is the benefit of them using castle nut over a regular nut? Great video man!

    • @dudeinthegarage
      @dudeinthegarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      WOW, I'm resurrecting an old comment here. lol The castle nut is used so a cotter pin can go through the axel and keep the nut from spinning off. With all the torque exerted from the axel it keeps everything together. Thanks for watching! Keep an eye out cause we have a new series I've been working on coming soon! DIG

    is impact wrench good enough or is torque wrench required?

    • @dudeinthegarage
      @dudeinthegarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Torque wrench is really going to make its right with no question. Specs call for 90-140ftlbs on that nut without ever backing it off to set the cotter pin. Just using the impact you never know exactly how tight it is. Thanks for watching! DIG

    I think this might be my issue. I hear a clunk when accelerating from a stop. I jacked up rear end and put in neutral...then spun the wheel by hand and there is play in the rotation until it catches the splines and turns with the axle...i gotta take it off to inspect the splines of both the axle and the hub

    • @dudeinthegarage

      This is a pretty typical issue with this style hub. Hope it fixed your issues! Thanks for watching! DIG

    Do both sides drive the cart?

    • @dudeinthegarage
      @dudeinthegarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@422bailey yes, but it is a limited slip so the axel sends the power to the wheel that needs it.

  • @macknumber9
    @macknumber9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Should you grease the axle splines?

    • @dudeinthegarage
      @dudeinthegarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't. I would just make sure they are clean and that the nut is tight. Thanks for watching! DIG

    Should I be replacing both sides at once or just the one with issues?

    • @dudeinthegarage
      @dudeinthegarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to be proactive then sure. But I checked the other side and it looked fine in this case. This is a very common issue and if it’s not bad now it very well might be in the future. Thanks for your question!

    • @dudeinthegarage

      Specs are 90-140ft-lbs. You can go to 90 and then tighten till you get the cotter pin in, never back it off. Thanks for watching! DIG

      Just like you saw in the opening of the video, it wouldn't move whatsoever. When taking off, the axel would spin within the hub. Thanks for watching! DIG

    My EZGO thumps when I drive it almost like a flat tire or tire is out of round. But tires look good. Could it be this hub/spline issue or is it a wheel bearing issue?

    • @dudeinthegarage
      @dudeinthegarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it doesn't keep you from accelerating or climbing hills then my best guess would be bearings. without seeing it in person that would be something I would check. Im sure you've got it taken care of by now but let us know what you found out. Thanks for watching! DIG
