  • It had been several years since I’d last been to the Yabun Festival in Sydney, but this year I decided to endure the heat, and see a couple of performers in the early afternoon. The second of these was Uncle Frank Yamma. I’d recently bought one of his CDs at a David Bridie concert, so I was keen to see him live. For those who don’t know:
“Frank Yamma is one of Australia’s most significant Indigenous songwriters with an ability to cross cultural and musical boundaries. A Pitjantjatjara man, Frank sings in his native language and English.”
“His mighty songs, magical guitar playing and deeply evocative voice tell stories of country, protection, heartache, travel and love. Although he’s lived in Adelaide for many years, Frank’s spirit belongs to the heart of Australia. Uluru. Docker River. Ernabella. Central Australia. As Frank says, ‘wherever the Pitjantjatjara mob come from’.”
    - from the Yabun Festival programme.

I believe the dancers superimposed on “Inside” are members of Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness (please correct me if I’m wrong). Also I utilised a small segment from NITV’s live broadcast (WIRIIYN Communications & Media) to patch over where a gentleman stood directly in front of me. At the moment the full 9 hours is still on TH-cam if you want to see more of the festival.
