Still love these old gospel songs, especially the way the Oak Ridge Boys sing them.
I've been listening to this song since I was a child but I hadn't heard it for many years. Until today when it came up in my spirit. So I did a search for it and here it is on you channel and I was mighty blessed. Thank God for Jesus xx

Great inspiring old song from The Oak Ridge Boys. We need more music like this today.
Saw them tonight 46 years from this video..They all sang great and Richard still sounds just as deep..this is an example of a band who laid off the booze and cigs because their voices are still great 2019. I don't know any band besides the Rolling Stones that's lasted this long.

That's great. They are my heroes! I can't remember seeing them in a video this old. It looked like they were wearing wigs! Ha-ha! I'm still a huge fan, I don't care how old they get. I forgot what Golden looked like without the beard! Duane Allen, too!

Have times changed since 1973 which is when Joe Bonsall joined the group, Duane Allen has been an Oakridge Boy since 1965, Richard Sterban 1971 or 72 and Bill Golden since 1963

Wow, is this an oldie. Richard Sterban was with The Stamps (backup for Elvis) from 1970-1972 then left to join the Oaks. This video looks to be from 1972-1974 from the looks of all that hair. Beautiful song & nice to see Willie Lee's face.

OMG, Duane looks soo different without his beard. At first I couldn't believe that was him. William Lee looks different without his beard too. I would had never known that was him. Boy. Richard and Joe haven't changed one bit. Nice vidoe.

Hey Kyle - you'll know this. I remember Joe describing running into Bill in the supermarket...and an icy reception...followed by a visit to Golden Era later that evening (I think he talked about them mending fences that night and even singing). Do you have that interview?
ONe thing for sure...the Elvis look was going strong at the time. I saw them in about 1974 or 1975 in a high school in Southern Illinois.

Yes, that is William Lee, before the beard. And yes, Richard came around in '72. This video is from 1973.
Yes, Richard joined the group in October of 1972.

Notice the only moustached one is Joe Bonsall - I saw a recent photo of the group (the same four members from this) and there was a direct opposite - all had beards/goatees/moustaches except Bonsall, who was cleanshaven!
the date would be closer to the mid 70s. Joe and Richard weren't with the band yet in 1970.

Anyway you cut it it was a great time in decades past, I was about 14 at the time and New in the Lord. These guys highly influenced me

Duane Allen sure looks different with the long hair & even longer sideburns before he grew his beard. Don Williams was the same way-long sideburns before growing the beard. Roy Clark also had long sideburns (which I didn't like) before cutting them shorter, but he was always clean shaven. On the other hand, his contemporary, Buck Owens, was clean shaven before growing a beard in later years. Bill Golden also looked different clean shaven, long hair, no hat or bandanna on his head before growing the beard that gave him that 'Mountain Man' look.
Elvis sure had an influence on many artists with the side burns!

this is from a great album, i dont remember the title of it however. it had songs like "baptism of jesse taylor" and "freedom for the stallion". ive got it in a box of old vinyl, makes me wanna get it out and give it a spin.

@@jennifursun3303 I have almost all the Oak Ridge Boys vinyl collection from the Gospel years until the last album that was released on vinyl the 1987 album heartbeat. "He's Gonna Smile On Me" is from the album "The Best Of The Oak Ridge Boys and was recorded on Columbia Records where after this the 1st 2 country albums "Yall Come Back Saloon" and "Room Service" were on ABC Dot Records. When they recorded the 3rd country project the Oak Ridge Boys Have Arrived they had switched to MCA records which was their label home for the next 18 years or so. The Best of was actually recorded at CBS Recording Studios and Superior Sound. In 1999 the Oaks signed with Spring Hill Music where I was the Director or Radio Promotions then. It was a highlight of my music career getting to work with them on 3 recordings, "From The Heart", "An Inconvenient Christmas" and "Colors" They were so great to work with. However "The Best Of The Oak Ridge Boys" was not recorded at their studios on Rockland Road they had for many years. I still run into Duane and Joe quite often in the Publix grocery store in Hendersonville. Still going strong after all these years except these 3 months being off the road from cancellations due to COVID 19. I am sure like many of us who travel in bands as I sing in a national gospel band "Jordan's Shore" after spending 20 years in the Record Label side of things are ready to get back on the road. The Oaks are still some of the best and are a favorite of my 7 year old youngest son who has Down Syndrome and he thinks no group measures up to the Oaks.
@@ericmelton5003 how cool; for you they were at the first gospel concert i ever went to in my late teens. sadly for me the autographed copy of a piece of sheet music i bout(I'm Gonna Keep On Holding On) got lost with all my other music when my late mom and I moved from the home I grew up in. had notebooks of sheet music and hymn books and music from two churches, none of which i can replace. i wonder, did they ever put on CD a recording of my favorite song, Put Your Arms Around Me Blessed Jesus if so where could I get a copy. if you see any of them tell them hi from a fan my best to your song and your family God Bless

Thanks for this!! I first met the Oaks in 1974 and this is how they looked!! And that is the same band they had then - Tony Brown, Don Breland, Mark Ellerbee, & John Rich. What memories that brought back!! But that is definitely not 1970, like someone else said, Joe & Richard were not in the group in 1970.
You are right. I saw Joe with the Keystone Qt from Pennsylvania at a college in Kansas in 72-73 so this video is probably in 1973-74. Also saw the Oaks often in Wichita in before this and Willie Wynn sang tenor. I miss him singing high on Jesus is Coming Soon. One evening in 1972 at the Century Two Auditorium in Wichita JD Sumner and the Stamps, the Oak Ridge Boys, and the Rambos put on a drama/play of "The Three Nails." I bought the record! I was sad when the Oaks left off Southern Gospel to go Country.
And Duane Allen was also Clean shaven, just like Bill Golden was

@GalaticJoker JD sumner and Richard Sterban use to sing together with the Stamps Quartet singing backup for Elvis ..... Jd hired Richard into the Stamps .... Jd would work the bigger dates with the group, so when Jd was there, there were actually five singers in the group, but on the smaller dates, Sterban was the only bass singer .... you can find some videos on here with Sterban and Sumner at the same time, but Sumners voice overpowers Sterbans, though I think Sterban is a better singer
Yes, odd that JD Sumner would hire Sterban as they both sing so low but having Sterban do the low singing if JD was not there would make sense.

@@daveb.4460 If you got it you wouldn't say "Up Yours" The Oak Ridge Boys needed to go country because this style of music on the way out as a whole. The new Oaks were needing a change of pace.
