Every 80s chart flashback is always a blast, and this one is no exception! 'How Will I Know', 'Manic Monday', 'Kyrie', 'Chain Reaction' & 'You to Me Are Everything' are my personal favourites.
Mr. Francis!! You did it again!! One of the best UK countdowns ever in my opinion!! Not a single boring song whatsoever and you presented it very greatly!! And again...that's why the 80s were great!! Thank you so much for another masterpiece!! I really enjoy what you do!!
For comparison, on the Billboard (U.S.) Top 40 that week: *** “Rock Me Amadeus” (Falco) spent it’s second of three weeks at No. 1. *** “Manic Monday” (The Bangles) and “Addicted To Love” (Robert Palmer) made their Top Ten debuts at No. 7 and No. 9. *** “Why Can’t This Be Love” (Van Halen) was the biggest mover, up eight spots to No. 16. *** Whitney Houston was the only artist in the countdown twice: “How Will I Know” at No. 26, “The Greatest Love Of All” at No. 40. *** There were two different songs with the title “I Can’t Wait”, Stevie Nicks at No. 19, Nu Shooz at No. 39. *** The highest debut in the Top 40 was “If You Leave” (O.M.D.), which debuted at No. 35. It was featured in the movie “Pretty In Pink”, which was the highest grossing U.S. film in March 1986.
1:08 Marlene on the wall 2:14 Is your love strong enough 4:15 Train of thought - thanks Francis for refreshing my teenage memories! I got to know these songs in mid 90's from counterfeit cassettes (in PL at that time we had just one big grey market), I can even remeber an intensive green cover of cassette with Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry's greatest hits...
An excellent video! Good countdown here. I have three absolute favourites in 'What Have You Done For Me Lately' (A gem of a song and album), 'A Different Corner' (Beautiful and heartfelt ballad) and 'Touch Me' (I know, but it is a great little song and although she's not the best singer she had some good songs). I also like 'How Will I Know', 'Kyrie', 'Kind of Magic', 'Chain Reaction', 'Overjoyed', 'Manic Monday', 'Move Away', 'When The Going Gets Tough', 'Greatest Love Of All', 'New York, New York', 'So Macho', 'There'll Be Sad Songs'.
Great memories ❤️

What a chart! I was 14 and obsessed with the charts back then, and looking back I can still see why. Thank you so much, yet again!

A helluva lot of these songs were still charting 6 weeks later and remind me of a brilliant holiday at the end of May that year.
Samantha Fox, Suzanne Vega and Five Star :)
