When the host asked Bill "What do you normally do when he's singing?", Bill said "I find a little corner and kick myself a lot." his coral colored suit was because this was the Andy Williams Valentine Day special. I saw it on TV. I was 22 years old at the time. It is just as thrilling today as on that special day. Bobby purportedly wasn’t feeling very well this night but one would never know it. This was a live performance without auto tune, gyrations, or flashing lights used to cover up performance artists today. His was pitch perfect. He just stood and delivered! 🥰
This song was written in 1955 for the movie "Unchained". It was used in "Ghost". The Righteous Brothers are Bobby Hatfield (seen here) and Bill Medley. They each sang solos in their performances. This is, and always will be, Bobby's song. Sadly, Bobby passed away in 2003. This was a live performance, he had a cold and his mom was in the audience. No auto tunes. This is one of greatest live performance by anyone. I was 15 yrs old when I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. He owns this song, no auto tunes just pure raw talent. RIP Bobby We miss hearing your beautiful voice! ❤❤❤

@@leejshafer The interview is actually a part of this same appearance on _The Andy Williams Show._ However, both the coin flip story and the, "I didn't think it would be a hit," line are almost certainly just promotional gimmicks. The actual decision was most likely made by Phil Spector, their manager at the time. The song is suited to Bobby's voice, and most feel it works better as a solo than as a duet.
Funny how you mention Dirty Dancing... The other Righteous Brother, Bill Medley, worked with Jennifer Warnes to sing the song "I've Had the Time of My Life", the song Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray danced to in the finale...
If you want more Righteous Brothers, I suggest "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" next... Their harmonies will blow you away. It also happens to be THE most played song on the radio of the 20th century.
Also, right before this performance, which was on a live TV show back in the day, included an interview with both Righteous Brothers that took place right before this performance... He was battling a head cold,he suffered from stage fright,and his mother was sitting behind him.

Hit the charts twice and this live performance is even better than the cut. So fortunate this was recorded via live TV. Bobby Hatfield had the voice,looks and charm of a great performer. Mother and Fiancee, I believe is how the story goes. So not only was he singing this for his Mother who had never heard him sing it, but he was also, quite literally, singing this to the woman he was in love with.
Great reaction! This was a flawless live performance. Before it started you wondered if the singer would be doing his own melodies. I think you meant acapella, where no instruments are used. Nobody will ever do this song like Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers and I never listen to other covers because it's a waste of my time after his. They take me back to when I had razor hair cuts and combed my hair like them listened to them on AM radio because that's all our 1960's cars had and still sounded better than these Boom Cars and the stuff that comes out of them.

The song is from a MOVIE entitles UNCHAINED-- about a prisoner missing his lover.... This was Bobby's FIRST time doing it professionally IN FRONT OF HIS MOM- who was in the audience... The "other brother" lets him do this one alone because of his extreme skill with it-- he has sense enough to knkow another voice would must mess it up... Bobby hits 6 octaves in this one-- easily- no strain AT ALL. BEST version of this EVER-- (it was featured in GHOST with Patrick Swayze)...Elvis tried it and just f...d it up bigtime.. THERE is one group called TEXAS TENORS -- from AGT that do it a GREAT justice job too!!! check them out.

It was around the same time as Elvis and he did record it as well, I love Elvis but this is definitely known to be the best recording. Everyone was singing it. There is a young girl Angelina Jordan who recorded quite a few years back and really did it well. She is now 17 and has just recorded her first EP Old Enough with six originals on it she is with Republic Records now. Do yourselves a favourite and listen to it. Blessings to you from South Africa

I did not see much reaction from both of you. ( by the way, need headphones. All you did was rocking from side to side. You did not talk about how singing makes you feel. This song does not age. I listen to it again and each time it brings me joy, fills my heart with delight and sheer happiness. I do not belong to that generation, but do not we all listen to Mozart. Beethoven, other great composers? Their music is outside of time, so is this music. I saw reaction to that music on other TH-cam channels. There were very emotional reactions and even disbelief, that Bobbie’s voice is from the 60-s. His voice is amazing and he does almost impossible things with it! Timeless performance! Not just peaceful, like you mentioned. He sings with passion, but one can listen with passion. I do not understand, how your reaction could be so cold. Almost everyone in comments talks about song, how great it is, but we can listen to it ourselves. I was waiting for your reaction, your emotions, but it did not happen.
Unfortunately most reactors have no real music appreciation. I was disappointed in this, plus they kept interrupting it in the middle of a note. They have no idea that you need to let him finish a note or phrase, then pause, if you have to.

This and other similar songs from the 60s were called "Blue Eyed Soul". They were also called belt buckle polishers because you held your girl so close she would polish your belt buckle. Oh. the memories!!!! I'm 77 now so all my buckles are tarnished as hell.
