My favorite moment of this video is when she can't hide a quick little smile just before she starts singing. I read later that she was used to being snickered at back in her village before she would perform at karaoke in pubs, etc. Susan knew EXACTLY what was about to happen in that auditorium.
Amanda Holden, the female judge, is a professional singer and actress herself which is why Susan was so proud and stunned by her praise. Susan Boyle herself has gone onto great stardom with several albums, a performance before the Queen and she is now worth millions. From all reports, she has always been a sweet unassuming woman and remains that to this day. But she was already a legend in her hometown, everyone knew she could sing as she did but had never done so outside of there. She finished second in the competition but has become the most successful act they ever had and Simon Cowell said that she saved the show with her performances. She's a gift to all humanity.
Amanda Holden is not a singer. She became famous for being a contestant on blind date then married the host of family fortunes. She did progress to acting but her real success was befriending Simon cowell and getting on Britain’s got talent
@@juliesomerville79 In 2019, Holden signed a recording contract with Virgin EMI Records. In 2020 she released her debut studio album, Songs from My Heart, through Universal Music. It reached number four on the UK Albums Chart.
@@beaux2585 yeah that was long after Susan went on Britain’s got talent. It’s many years ago now. Amanda has achieved a lot from where she started. I’m sure she did that album tied in to a tv show.
Amanda Holden is a singer!, three years before she became a judge on Britain got talent she was nominated for an award for her stage performance, which included singing. I suggest you check out her performance, available on TH-cam. You’re welcome.
My favorite judge reaction here is from Amanda as she crooks her finger when Susan sings the word "shame". Because as a professional singer, Amanda knows this song. It's a very famous song from a very famous musical. And she knows that word, starting on a low note than rolling into a high note, is the toughest part of the song. When she crooks her finger at that moment, she's anticipating Susan will crush it, and when Susan does, Amanda gives her a standing ovation.
Susan Boyle has gone on to have that music career that she wanted. She's done a complete make over, has several albums and is now a multimillionaire. Her debut studio album, I Dreamed a Dream, was released in November 2009; it became the UK's best-selling debut album of all time. She's put out many albums since then and has quite the following.
Everyone thought this one was a joke, especially Simon. And then she started to sing. One of the biggest surprises since Britain's Got Talent started. Since this start, she has come a long way to realize her dream. She is a very popular singer now.
I have tears on my face right now for Susan Boyle just as I did the night this performance originally aired. Her voice is absolutely stunning! She walked off the stage that night and into the arms of greatness! Great reaction, and please don't forget her in your future videos!
Simon was smiling because he saw dollar signs in his head. Simon and Susan went on to produce several albums and Susn is now a multi-millionaire and has remained the same humble person she has always been.

This is what they mean by having a, "Susan Boyle Moment". I cry and get goose bumps every time I watch this clip. It reminds me of a scene from an old 40's movie. Back stage before she performs her manager says, "Kid, you are going out there a nobody, but coming back a star." I love Susan Boyle. I just wish they had the golden buzzer back then."
“I’ve always said that before BGT, I was like an outsider looking in,” says Susan softly. “Life was quiet, I looked after my mother until she died. Money was exceptionally tight, I used to fret as to how I was going to pay for gas and electric. I lived hand to mouth. I was happy and I had wonderful friends and family but I just knew that there was something missing in my life. “I promised my mother I would make something of my life before she died. My inspiration for going on the show was to try and change my life for the better and also meet Piers Morgan,” she continues. Susan Boyle is still an active recording artist signed to Simon Cowell's label Syco Entertainment. She has released eight albums in 11 years and continues to perform, tour and appear on popular TV shows around the world.
On a smaller scale I witnessed a similar incident. There were 2 comedians and as part of the act they invited to audience members, a male and a female, onto the stage ( picked by a restaurant employee ). The comedians sang a song and gave instructions to their guests to sing when they pointed to them. The male sang and they had jokes for how bad he was. The woman had to sing "Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral Too-ra-loo-ra-li". They were unawares that she was the head singer in her church choir her perfect performance they couldn't stopped their jokes.
Susan’s 61 today and her net worth is around 40 million US dollars. World tours and best-selling albums and a frugal lifestyle made her rich. As the youngest of nine kids she stayed home and cared for her parents until their deaths, her Dad was a WWII vet and a miner, her mother was a stenographer who had Susan at age 45. Her mother had nursed her talent and encouraged her to enter this competition before she died. This was Susan’s first performance after her Mom’s death.
Undoubtedly..the most famous performance, act that has ever been on Britains got talent. She became an international star and won universal praise around the world, indeed Hollywood made a film about her and the show.
One of my favorite BGT 1st auditions ever! Another favorite is the 1st audition of Charlotte and Jonathan. A real must watch. And also have a look at the 1st audition of Amira Willighagen from Holand's Got Talent.
One of the most respectable things about Susan is that when she became the global superstar she remains, she never became a pompous, strutting, arrogant entitled diva. If anything, she became even more humble, more sweet, and displays an attitude of gratitude to her fans. She is grounded, real, and such a sweet woman. That makes me love her even more!!!! One doesn't have to become obnoxious, vulgar, and contentious as too many entertainers are, to be a legend. Susan proves that decency, kindness, gratefulness, and meekness can bring a person quite far in life. She is the better example to point young girls to than the trashy acting stars in America!
I can remember that nite.in my head l had come to the same conclusion as the judges . I stood in my own lounge and apoliged to her ... Good lesson learnt by us all.
When I see this Susan Boyle audition, it also reminds me of the Paul Potts audition from 2007 singing Nessa Dorma. Both of them were amazing singers and an unexpected surprise when they performed.
I cry every time I hear this audition, still, YEARS later. I LOVE her attitude and HOPE. It changed the entire show format after that season. Really. ... she said Les Miserables... a long long play sometimes set to musical theme, where this song came from.
This extraordinary lady went on to record many albums, sell millions of records, made a ton of money and has performed all over the world. She has performed for the Pope and the Queen of England, just to name a few of the notables who have been in her audiences. I would say she has gone on to great success. Oh, and by the way, she got an opportunity to do a duet with her idol Elaine Page, who is one of England’s most honored stage performers. She is extremely talented and Susan held her own wit Elaine. The video on Utube and well worth checking out.
The song "I Dreamed a Dream" is from "Les Miserables" - my all time favorite musical. It is set in the time leading up to and during the French Revolution. It is sung by the character Fontaine who is a single mother because she was used by a man who she thought loved her but he left when she got pregnant. She tries to do her best for her daughter but through a series of events is reduced to becoming a prostitute in order to pay for her child. So she sings about "I dreamed a dream in times gone by, When hope was high and life worth living" and ends with "I had a dream my life would be, So different from this hell I'm living...Now life has killed the dream, I dreamed". She is a very tragic character.
I saw Les Mis for the first time in person last year and it was life-changing, it was such an amazing experience. I've had season tickets to the theater for a couple years now, and that show was the one that blew me away the most.
She's the greatest 'don't make a snap judgement story' ever because the judges and everyone in the audience were so sure she was going to be a bust. But damn! She schooled them all. I love it and love her.
When she was walking away after she was done singing I bet she was thinking "I came, I saw, I conquered!" That she did. She showed 'em all! You go girl!!!
she didnt win, finished 2nd. BUT, no one can tell you the names of the winners but EVERYONE can name Susan Boyle. she has recorded a few cd's and made millions of dollars. check out some more of her videos. WILD HORSES. CRY ME A RIVER.. WHO I WAS BORN TO BE... UP TO THE MOUNTAIN ... all so beautifully sung !!!
In all fairness the group that did win - a dance group called Diversity - are EXTREMELY famous in the UK and still play sell out arena tours all around the country. But that’s not to take anything away from the global success Susan Boyle achieved.
First time on your Chanel & I have now subscribed cause I like your style. Yes, Susan is fabulous & she made a name for herself rather later in life than most artists. Now guys, what would you say about a video that’s had in excess of 74 million views which stars a ten year old singing to an audience of 15,000 people who stood as one to give her a standing ovation? Well, her name is Amira Willighagen & she won Holland’s Got Talent at the age of nine, without having a single singing lesson. Her voice is powerful but Angelic. She is pitch perfect & has a vibrato that seasoned singers would envy. Whatever she sings, she does so effortlessly, so, how about a reaction as follows. …. …. Amira Willighagen singing …. O Mio Babbino Caro with the world renown conductor/ musician Andre Rieu at the age of 10. Hoping these comments inspire you to react to this modern day prodigy. Amira is 19 next month & she has many many uTube videos for reactors to choose from. Cheers Graeme
Yes, Susan is the epitome of that, as was Johnathon from Johnathon and Charlotte. I temporarily had forgotten about Paul Potts as well, it is wonderful when a show like this can completely transform someone’s life, but in Susan’s case, it gave her the opportunity to share her voice, but her personality is more introverted, so I don’t know that it changed her lifestyle.
Simon Cowell became her manager and you would not recognise her after her makeover, she became famous in the UK and got to sing with her idol Elaine Paige. She now has many albums and made millions, but still lives in her little village. You have to listen to her sing WILD HORSES fantastic! The judges often say on the show they are waiting for a star that has that Susan Boyle moment.
Susan Boyle is the end of the line of this Talent show really. The ultimate goal of this kind of show is to find your Susan. Mission accomplished. It tick all the boxes
This song is from in my opinion the best musical ever "Les Miserables " Sussn went on to become a global success, as mentioned already Susan had a fragile personality often having panic attacks, Susan found it difficult to cope with her new found fame, Susan has sold over 25 million records, her debut album "I Dreamed a Dream " sold over 10 million copies, and is still one of the best selling albums of the 21st century, Susan bought a new house but felt alone there,Susan moved back to her childhood home.
Susan Boyle was an overnight sensation visiting the States and Canada within days of this performance. She sang a song from the musical Le Miserable which has the fourth-highest theatre admissions worldwide. Cowell became a friend of Susan's and helped her with things. If your looking for another singer who was unexpected, look at Maxweell Thorpe on BGT 2022 he really is very good.
It's still great to see Susan with her audition 💖. There is another surprising performance by a duo, Simon and the audience thought oh no what is this until they started singing. That duo is definitely worth watching/listening to, I saw they've already been mentioned in a reaction the teenagers Jonathan and Charlotte are amazing . Incredibly sad song.
I saw Les Mis for the first time in person last year and it was life-changing, it was such an amazing experience. I've had season tickets to the theater for a couple years now, and that show was the one that blew me away the most.
Susan Boyle became so famous all around the world after that, that now she is a millionaire.
Last line says it all ... My life has killed a dream I dreamed!
She's the greatest 'don't make a snap judgement story' ever because the judges and everyone in the audience were so sure she was going to be a bust. But damn! She schooled them all. I love it and love her.
It was nothing short of amazing and went on to become a worldwide star.
I love the fact she actually got to do a duet with Elaine Page, so few people get to achieve their dream so it’s always nice to see it happen
When she was walking away after she was done singing I bet she was thinking "I came, I saw, I conquered!" That she did. She showed 'em all! You go girl!!!
Never judge a book by its cover. 🇬🇧 I still get goosebumps when I hear her.
she didnt win, finished 2nd.
The names of the winners are diversity dancers
A lot of times it seems that 2nd place becomes more famous than the winner in all these singing shows.
I cry right away when I hear this
First time on your Chanel & I have now subscribed cause I like your style.
Never judge a book by its cover
Yes, Susan is the epitome of that, as was Johnathon from Johnathon and Charlotte. I temporarily had forgotten about Paul Potts as well, it is wonderful when a show like this can completely transform someone’s life, but in Susan’s case, it gave her the opportunity to share her voice, but her personality is more introverted, so I don’t know that it changed her lifestyle.
You should listen to her performance of Wild Horses.
I was going to say the same, love that one.
Tears everytime ....
😂
Susan Boyle was an overnight sensation visiting the States and Canada within days of this performance. She sang a song from the musical Le Miserable which has the fourth-highest theatre admissions worldwide. Cowell became a friend of Susan's and helped her with things.
If your looking for another singer who was unexpected, look at Maxweell Thorpe on BGT 2022 he really is very good.
Nailed it
I am sure others have mentioned that she achieved her singing goals. She has sold who knows how many albums and also sang with Elaine Paige on stage.
Subscribed I am curious about your further journey to discover talents😁
Gr. from The Netherlands
Yes, that is a wonderful audition too! And the semi final is a must watch.
Her debut album, I Dreamed A Dream (2009), is one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century, having sold over 10 million copies worldwide, and it was the best-selling album internationally in 2009.
