    I only timed one lap, it was 2:35 with an average speed of 94 mph, not to shabby for a car that you could drive home after the race, without a trailer. The 289 high performance engine was one of the best internal combustion engines ever built, they had all the right stuff.
    Thanks for the ride along Colin.

    Thanks for keeping the race cars on the track and not in a museum. Treat them with dignity by flooring them all the way to 8K RPM what a sweet sound!

    Absolutely beautiful , you could never get sick of the sound of an angry v8 at full song , I was thinking it was a 6 speed box and when I read it was a toploader.!'WOW' you still have a lot of speed on when you're going back to 1st for some of those corners , awesome video can't wait to watch your others

    I am a member of the Northwoods Shelby Club and we have an annual event at Road America, for those that are not aware, Colin Comer has authored two of the best books on Shelby autos ever written, "Shelby Cobra Fifty Years" and "The Complete Book of Shelby Automobiles - Cobra's, Mustangs, and Super Snakes. If you are a Shelby fan, they are a must read.

    Actually, it is a toploader 4 speed- with Jericho dog tooth gear set (no synchros)
    Even has a good-old Hurst Competition Plus shifter, too.
    It shifts just like the toploaders the old drag racers used with cutback synchros, lift and shift.

    I'm so glad you aren't letting yours rot in a museum or some such similar nonsense. Cars like this are supposed to be thrashed, and I love the noise they make when they are!

    Yep. it really sucked. Had a moment of thinking about burning it or wrecking it so she wouldn't get much. then i thought that would be a truly dumb thing to do. i respected that car more than that. plus i lost a 67 mustang fastback with a 351 Cleveland, 4spd and other goodies. yellow exterior with black interior. Oh Well.

    • @cobracolin
      @cobracolin  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +johnsen166 - glad you're catching up on 6 year old videos. Question: Where does it say this is a "West Coast" legal car? It is legal- for the venues I raced it at in the Midwest and East Coast. It is a real GT350 with VSCDA "era-correct" certification. Legal displacement, legal weight, legal suspension, and a legal Jerico gearset in a Top Loader case (as noted below in a reply to another comment) with the associated weight penalty for using this setup complied with. Now, if I said "Monterey legal" or "exact era correct specs" that would be something else. So, is it cheating when you comply with the rules for where one races? I don't know anybody running Ford guts in their Top Loader nor do I know anybody running a 4 point roll bar, or dual point distributors, or brass radiators, or without a fire system. This is vintage racing- some of us like adding a little safety and reliability. You may enjoy reading the article I authored in Vintage Motorsports magazine on this very topic of East vs. West prep entitled "One Trick Pony." Best regards, and Happy Thanksgiving. -Colin Comer
