    My FFAD5033W1 only lasted 2 years of summer use. It stopped removing air moisture and displayed the EC fault code. I took it apart and ran it with the cover off. The compressor works and the input line to the cooling (evaporator) coil was icing up but the cooling coil didn't get cold enough to dehumidify. This is definitely due to low refrigerant (it leaked out) or some other refrigerant line problem. Many reviewers complain of these early failures and one says the warranty used to be 5 years on his previous 2 units of this model. Frigidaire/Electrolux clearly has a serious quality problem with their refrigeration components and is letting customers take the loss instead of giving a proper warranty or fixing their quality problems. This is a shame because the engineering design of this unit is really excellent inside and out, and it has excellent features (I am an engineer myself). I asked Frigidaire for a repair facility, and the one they gave me said they can't fix them because they can't get parts from Frigidaire! Repairing the refrigerant components or recharging the refrigerant cost around 75% of the machine cost. This is an extremely risky purchase but if you get one that lasts, it is a great machine.

      @@jamesgerboc that code comes from the inside sensor that gets dirty. no idea why they would have a sensor on the coils. just take off the back cover and clean with steel wool that sensor and its holder. Unless you have compressor issue, this should fix the F0 code isses.

    Only lasted 12 months, 2 weeks for $274.Spent hours on phone trying to get a replacement. Frigidaire stated that since I bought it on Amazon, the seller wasn't an authorized dealer and the seller had to take care of it as Frigidaire had no responsibility for their product. Amazon said it was over warranty as warranty was only a year and couldn't do anything. I called Frigidaire back and they said again that it wasn't their responsibility as the seller wasn't an authorized seller. Again, not standing behind their product and the Frigidaire agent got really argumentative and hung up. Buy at your own risk. This is my fourth Frigidaire and none of them have lasted over 2 years.

    these units are notorious for throwing a "'EC'" trouble code (sealed system failure) a few months after the "one" year warranty expires. Frigidaire uses to have a 5 year warranty on the sealed system; I suppose they would rather loose customers, than replace units.

    Received my 2nd warranty unit from Electrolux/Frigidaire back in October 2020 (replacement is FFAD5033W10), didn't put it in service until April/May 2021 since 1,200 sqft basement stays dry due to wood pellet stove running 24/7 during New Hampshire winter. 1st unit was within the 5yr compressor warranty before getting the dreaded error code, and now the replacement is showing the EC code after only @ 14 months of service. Basement is always within the 41 to 89 degree range, and the unit is plugged into a dedicated elec circuit into my breaker panel.
    Will call Frigidaire tomorrow to see if they will warranty again . . . .

    Seems to work great at removing moisture.
    However, It was designed backwards! Apparently all new dehumidifiers are designed to “look” sleek by putting the vent to the back - very poor thinking.
    If you want to put it against a wall in a smaller space like a hallway, with the vent facing out - the back side (where the vent is) faces out (looks ugly, cord is now on the wrong side etc.) - and the bucket is on the side towards the wall so you have to pull it out and turn around to get to the bucket.
    I saw a review with a photo where it was backed up to a furnace with the sleek front facing out - even though they gave favorable rating, they weren’t aware there is not adequate air flow to the vent in the back. This will decrease efficiency and reduce the life of the unit.
    The "splash guard" causes more spills when trying to empty it than without a splash guard. And the bucket fills ALL the way to the brim - it spills when trying to remove the bucket and then upon pouring it out- such a messy joke! This is something that should be so easy to fix.
    Also, the low fan speed isn’t low enough - (167 cfm versus 155 cfm on whirlpool). Condensation collects better at lower speeds. Wish it was slower - I will never be using the higher speeds. Best if is runs longer or continuously at slow fan speed than shorter times at hi fan speed.

    This is the unit Fridgidaire is sending everyone to replace the older and very well rated FFAD7033R1 70 Pint unit which typically sees a total system failure after only 2 years. The difference in quality inside and out between this current 50pt unit and the older 70pt one is stunning, favoring the older unit. The styling of the older model is also much better, with air discharged from the side rather than through the top of the unit, and light gray panels instead of black. Although they replaced my 70pt with the 50pt under warranty, I purchased an Actic King WDP50AE1IN-P 50pt for $100 less and I like it much better. After significant problem getting in touch with Frigidaire both by phone and by email, and replacement with an inferior unit, I dont trust the company.

    • @ahaning
      @ahaning 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm confused - the old unit was better quality and highly-rated, but failed after two years? That doesn't sound very quality to me.
      Are you thinking that this new unit will be even worse than the one it replaced?
      Just curious. My house came with all Frigidaire appliances (oven, fridge/freezer, microwave/hood) and I've been less than impressed. I would typically avoid Frigidaire appliances if buying new (and thus full price).
      I've actually been very surprised at the positive reviews of this dehumidifier, considering the manufacturer. Maybe I shouldn't be, though? It is made by "FRIGID AIR" and contains a compressor. This is their bag, right? :-)

    • @jamesgerboc
      @jamesgerboc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ahaning So I carefully selected the old model based on looks, specifications and reviews. I was very pleased with my purchase. For 2 years it met all my expectations. When it failed (error code) I was disappointed when I found many people had a failure around 2 years. When I contacted Frigidaire and they only offered a replacement unit, I was disappointed. The first replacement I received was a 20pt unit and I complained so they sent me a 50pt unit. It was now their largest they said. It performs well. However, it weighs much less, it is ugly, the air discharge is through the top not the back or sides, and everything about it looks cheap compared to the old unit, including the controls and display. If I could have paid to have the old unit repaired, I would have, but Frigidaire would not let me. They called it a total system failure. It seemed to me to be a sensor. Hope this helps. Note that Best Reviews for 2021 rates the 50pt at #2 and the 22pt at #6 so they seem to be reliable.

    • @ahaning

      @@jamesgerboc That makes sense. Thank you for the detailed explanation!
      It sounds like you did your homework.
      My bet is that you're right and there's some $5 part that is specific to that unit that they don't have anymore or it's just not sold individually. Maybe it's only kept at a manufacturing dept's warehouse and it's just easier for their support team to send you a whole new unit.
      I have a shredder from Fellowes with a stripped nylon gear inside. I contacted Fellowes to see if I could get a replacement, but they don't carry it anymore. My only option was to get a new shredder, so I got a refurb. Stinks. The old one is still broken, but I'm going to fix it one of these days. I swear! 🙂

    This frigidaire FFAD5033W1 model does not appear to be available in California. Instead, the frigidaire FFAD5034W1 model is available here. The main difference appears to be the type of refrigerant used. The FFAD5033W1 uses the older R-410A refrigerant and the FFAD5034W1 uses the newer R-32 refrigerant. It looks like policies have been put in place to phase out of the R-410A refrigerant by 2025 so I am guessing that the FFAD5034W1 model will be replacing the FFAD5033W1 model. I don't see any reviews for the FFAD5034W1 model yet. Does anyone have any comparison data between the two models?

    Is this unit able to take care of a 4500 sq. ft. area? I have a 4200 sq. ft. home with a huge livingroom great room and kitchen area in the same great room. Will this unit take care of the whole house meaning the 3 bedrooms as well. I have read online that this is only recommended for 1500 sq. ft. coverage. I live in Tampa, FL so humidity is high. I have 2 central air units with a dehumidifying feature but it is causing my handlers in the attic space to sweat too much and causing condensation build up in the attic spaces and in the duct systems. I am looking for a solution to help keep the AC units from working so much by trying to keep the humidity level low and focus more on the temperature level. I thought a dehumidifier might be the answer.

    1st FFAD5033W1 displayed the EC error after only 11 months (some summer runtime and no winter use). Frigidaire replaced it (less S&H) and now the 2nd FFAD5033W1 is throwing the EC code after only several months of summer use and being dormant through this past winter. Nice list of pros vs cons in your video but these units are junk and a waste of money. Electrolux/Frigidaire either sell a reputable product or take yourself out of the game. Thieves!

    Any thoughts on a 70 pint dehumidifier like Hisense?

    • @consumer-analysis
      @consumer-analysis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All 70 pint dehumidifiers are 50 pint units according to the latest DOE standards for measuring dehumidifier capacity. I discuss this in detail in this video: th-cam.com/video/MoYZk2KRL6I/w-d-xo.html
