    I don’t regard CTO’s as collectible for me personally. When I collect postally used, I want nice cancellations and stamps that have actually gone through the postal system. Just the way I collect. I think sellers should state if a stamp is a CTO, same as saying it is used, MH (mint hinged), MNH (mint never hinged) etc.
    Nice video Charnie!

      Hi Chris! I have mixed feelings about CTOs. In the beginning when I learned about their existence I thought they are really trash, but then I saw other opinions of other stamp collectors, and some who are tolerant of them. And then even ChatGPT was very adamant that CTOs are not mere stickers. ... Not that ChatGPT should carry a massive amount of authority, but it apparently does give a good rendition of available information and statistics thereon. All I know is that you have and will have an excellent pristine collection, also not tolerating any stamps with condition flaws. In a way I think I am a little like you, but at the moment I don't want to let go of any stamp. :)))) Thanks for your kind comment about my video!

    I'm really impressed with the content of the AI chatbot's response. It appears well informed. I can see how it can help generate general information on a topic such as CTO stamp values, but wonder if it will provide accurate information on in specialized subjects. We are entering a new age of information - for sure.

      Thanks for watching, Dawid. Yes, we are moving with the speed of light towards the information age, and age of computers and robots? Sometimes it is a bit scary. I did test ChapGPT's ability to, for example, discuss and give precise scientific information in the field of taxonomy and it was not very successful and accurate, even with older information. It sort of loses its integration of data and reasoning. Exciting, nevertheless. :)

    An other great video. Thanks for introducing us to this site. I will certainly visit it quite frequently. I do have quite a few thousand CTOs from Eastern European countries but in almost the cases I also have mint and used versions. Looking forward to your next video.

      Thanks so much again for watching, Dan! I really appreciate it tremendously. You must have an amazing collection! The value of CTOs and their place in "serious" collecting is something I want to investigate until I can really decide about them. :)

      It is really fun to interact with the ChatGPT bot. I am not using the best and most recent version, because one has to pay for that. I heard the new versions are far superior to the one I am using. I like to have philosophical discussions with it. Lots of fun. However, it is lacking in some regards. It is really not good in putting together and integrating facts, especially something like scientific facts. It sometimes really answers non sense and give facts as if it is true, and then it might be entirely wrong. I have not used other AI bots yet that are similar to ChatGPT. You must really try it and see how it works. It even gets to "know" you. 🙂

    Great video with very interesting information. Regarding if it's worth it to collect CTOs or not it will depend in many factors , by example I collect USSR , Hungary , Poland and other eastern Europe countries which is ALMOST imposible to get commemorative stamps without CTOs.
    Also depends on the type of collection you have , if you have a high end collection of course you will spend a lot of money to have the best material, if you plan to exhibit at any FIP contests CTOs are banned. So it will depend entirely on your collecting interests, investment, exhibiting.
    By the way I don't love them but don't mind if I have some in my collection
    Congratulations and keep making great content 👍

      Hi Bernardo, thank you for watching and thank you for an excellent comment, and thank you for your kind feedback on the video! It really seems as if the whole CTO issue is like other decisions in stamp collecting - closely depending on your own interests, focus etc., as you said. Thus, one should make out for yourself what your aim is with collecting, and to what you aspire. Interesting that FIP goes as far as banning CTOs. Does that mean that CTOs are not permissible in any international stamp exhibition worldwide? Official views and decisions like that clearly place the CTO stamp in a lesser than ideal light. You seem to have a good balance with your own view about the matter. Thanks again! 🙂

      @bernardogrobeisenweingersz9768 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GreatStampAdventure Thank you so much , as far as I know if the exhibit/contest is ruled by the FIP yes they are banned, they are considered like bad quality material, plus they have a list of dangerous countries that they issue many stamps. I didn't knew that UK and Switzerland had CTOs , very interesting.
      I guess that precancelled stamps ( USA , France , Belgium ) are not considered as CTOs as they where used postally

    • @GreatStampAdventure
      @GreatStampAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bernardogrobeisenweingersz9768 I must still quickly ask Google what "precancelled stamps" are. I am really still clueless!

    • @GreatStampAdventure
      @GreatStampAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, and the CTO stamps I showed come from e-bay and they were listed as CTOs. I still find it difficult to always know whether it is a CTO or not.

    • @bernardogrobeisenweingersz9768
      @bernardogrobeisenweingersz9768 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GreatStampAdventure It is not so easy , but normally are very clean cancellations and almost always are at the corners , top ot bottom of the stamp.
      At the end it's only a personal desicion. Because if you want an investment with a revenue at the selling time you have to invest at the beginning and that will depend in your budget. The final thought is collect what you want and what makes you happy , do it for your own and personal pleasure. If you want to compete at any exhibition you have to follow the rules and invest in your material, but that's a different story.
      Best regards and wishes

    I think the answer to the question is (as always) ... it depends. I personally don't have a huge problem with CTOs. In many ways I prefer the neatness and conformity of them than you would get with only collecting postally used stamps. I'm sure we have all been frustrated by receiving an envelope with beautiful stamps that have been buried under such a heavy cancellation that you can barely see what the stamp depicts. Or stamps that have not been cancelled at all - or perhaps that haven't been cancelled but have been pen cancelled of scribbled over in felt pen by an over enthusiastic postal employee. And then there's slogan cancels, Some people love them; personally I dislike them unless they are so fascinating that you want to keep the whole envelope because of the postmark. If that's the case, I would suggest that it makes you more of a collector of postal history than a collector of stamps. Please note that I am not saying that one is any better than the other, but you need to ask why are you collecting. Are you fascinated by the beautiful images and design or is it the stories behind the stamps that interests you. (It could be both.) Also, for high value stamps, the main usage is on parcels, the nature of which means that the stamps end up being badly damaged, so trying to get good postally used examples of such stamps can be almost impossible,

      Hi Steve! :) Again you gave such a balanced comment with many insights. Thanks!!!!! I have mixed feelings about the CTOs. The first time I heard about CTOs and starting to notice CTO stamps, I only got negative feed back. Some called them mere "stickers". The I got more balanced views like yours, and then this account by the "clever" ChatGPT and now I also look at them with less negativity. I am still keeping them, and they are neat and beautiful in comparison to many used stamps. Thanks tremendously for watching even older videos, and thanks for your comment! Best wishes!

    As as old classic Collector I don't like CTOs The postal authorities flood the market with all these extras For me it has no Postal history value compared to the stamp on envelope as used for its intended purpose, to pay for postage. Great video thanks Cheers from SA

      Hallo Louis, welcome here, and thank you for watching and commenting!!! I am so glad to see someone from South Africa! I am still longing for South Africa so much, and I will remain a South African for ever (I now live in New Zealand). Yes, my first reaction is also not to like CTOs. And there are such an overwhelming amount of them, as you said. However, I saw a TH-cam video (by Ken of Ken's stamp collection) in which he actually looked at the differences between a real postally used stamp and its CTO version. He handled it as a variety of a stamp. He says however, he only includes CTOs in his collection which also have postally used versions, and not those that were issued only as CTOs. Lots of best greetings here from New Zealand! 🙂

      Hi Wolfie! For some obscure reason TH-cam put your comment under spam. ??? I had to rescue it. I also only recently started collecting stamps and also only very recently started to make TH-cam videos. You probably know as much as I do, or even more. :) I guess you posted the short? I will go to your channel and have a look, but I doubt whether I will be able to give any useful feedback. :) Thanks so much for watching here at my channel! :)

    • @GreatStampAdventure
      @GreatStampAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ... my second reply: I looked at your short. I will try to say something, but remember it comes from a novice! I had to look through the short a few times to really comprehend what you said. It is a good "story", with a message, and a tip for someone who also want to save money when starting out. But it went very quickly, and I could for example not finish reading what you wrote before you moved on. I know it is a short, but I would have tried to just stay a little bit longer on each "page/clip". Then, maybe a narration of what you showed would have been better than adding other words that have nothing to do with your subject. But the video and your audio were clear. ... I have NO IDEA if this will be of help to you! I also subscribed to your channel. I could not click the bell to give me all notifications when you post something. Did you say the channel is for children? I don't know why that happens. :) Keep on making videos! There is space for MUCH MORE content about stamp collecting! :) Good luck! ... Oh, also, I wanted to comment on the short, but there was no field for comments? I don't understand that. ... Try to make a long video as well. :)
