I still think Piper should be tested for Lyme disease after having that Wood tick infestation when you found her. Losing weight and not thriving are two early symptoms. Also, when she was first treated for pneumonia, her back legs looked stiff. Joint stiffness is also a symptom. I hope this little sweetheart feels better soon. ❤
Let me encourage you: I've been through this more than once. I've witnessed miracles in young foals and calves that looked rough but pulled through. Thank YOU for your love and diligence ❤
Hi, Candice. Piper does not look well at all. She looks so thin compared to your other gorgeous foals you bred. I wonder if she missed her mother's colostrum and is more susceptible to infection. Great she has you to look after her. Wishing her a speedy recovery xx❤
When Piper was found, she was already a couple of days old, so she had certainly got the colostrum. And it wouldn't really matter in the case of pneumonia. Every horse can catch it and some horses are just more prone to catching diseases, just like sone humans have weaker immune systems. But I doubt it's because she missed colostrum. She was doing just fine until she caught the infection.
@@tanyabrown9839 Well, the stress of trying to incorporate her in the herd certainly didn't help her health. The whole situation was very stressful and traumatic for her and stress is known for affecting physical health. Also, from what I've heard, they did have some fires in that area and their pastures are quite dusty, so it's possible she inhaled the bacteria from the ground. I don't know how hot it is there, but if there are sudden temperature changes (for example sudden increase in temperature) it can also affect the health. Foals are quite fragile in general, but a foal who's been through so much in her short life will surely be more affected by sudden illnesses and changes in environment.
Tough one here:-( Left on her own without mom to look after her and somehow found by C&J. Now this struggle for life against some big odds. It still doesn't look good but there are a lot of supporters out there to see her through it!!!
Wouldn't hurt to add some diatomaceous earth, food grade, to her feed ration. It worms, helps the bones and lots of other good things. I syringed my 4 month foal ½ cup daily mixed with appleasauce for a couple weeks. It got rid of a recurrent bone infection that wasn't responding to antibiotics. I also use tobacco as a worker for all my animals. It works great and used sparingly enough not to cause any problems. It was used way before tube workers were developed.
Hopefully little Piper gets well, and oh my Ranger certainly is looking a little on the chunky side lol, watching the little dogs running through the long grass, you can hardly see them 😂, so cute, all the horses look amazing too guys, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
I am praying for Piper to get healthy horse status very soon! She is bless to have you both working to get her healthy. She sure has shed out a lot! Another Ranger? It's amazing how they change so much!❤
Piper is very lucky to be found by u.! If anyone else had her most probably she wouldn't be alive now. You r doing an amazing job.! Bless u both guys.! 🙏 ❤
Glad Piper is getting such good care n love . The boys are all so beautiful n Mr Ranger is eating good 😆 love him and pups running to daddy Jordan call precious Ms Daisy minded real quick ❤
Ranger is just adding some extra padding on for the winter! Is it hot there again? We had our first cool day today... Friday, and some rain! yeah! those wee puppers sure listen to you, Jordan. I don't know how you see them playing 8n the pasture! Just thinking Candice, Little Piper. is looking a bit ragged, and tiny. But she has been so poorly all summer. Pneumonia can really zap you when you are healthy, never-mind when you are a wee orphan baby. The probiotics should really help her gut health.... maybe she needs some of what Ranger has been indulging in... 😀 That little girl will need a cosy blanket for her bones this winter...... or maybe she will move into the house from the back yard.... ☺️❤️❤️❤️ I hope you are feeling well Candice! You sure enjoyed that race on James! sending a hg!
Flowers of Sulfur (drug store) will help with itching from mites and mange. It is also a blood purifier. I had to use it on one of my horses back in 80's. It is topical and can be mixed with crisco. It works great as my grandpa used it back in the day before all of the pharmaceutical meds were available.
It works great. I use it on my horse which has sweet itch. Helps to get rid of any parasites from the inside out. Can also be used mixed with olive oil to put on sore and itchy skin
Ranger is a super chonk! He definitely likes his grazing. I’m sure you guys have plenty of, err, *fun* work planned for him to melt those pounds off. Poor Ranger…😹
Did you guys have the cicada invasion up there? I read an article the other day that there is a tiny mite that feeds on the cicada eggs, but if it bites us or animals it causes severe itching. I hope the probiotics help Piper.
I hope probiotics can help Piper. I love how she and Cat are now a pair, it seems. The first white horse in the geldings is super chonk lol, yeah maybe some fitness for him. I love Drift, he is beautiful.
Can she be given raw milk from goats or even from other horses? Cooked milk is unfortunately dead and hard to digest. I hope she gets better. You’re doing so much to try to save her.
Lots of good wormer herbs that also do other things and stimulate digestion, etc. Horses are herbavores. I get excited about that with herbs and horses. Horses are also really different from humans. You need a horse herbal. They also sell some herb blends seed mixes for horse pastures that are tonic for horses. There is a lot of grow-your-own with herbs that is cheap and good.
Poor Piper she really doesn't look well (I thought that too before she developed the pneumonia. I hope she hasn't also got another issue which hasn't been picked up yet.
Hey Candice please look into diatomaceous earth topically and especially internally. Do the homework and Google the benefits because its done wonders for my horses and its not poisonous. Many times old ways work better than modern medicine.
I'm just completely heat broken up about Piper, can't watch anymore, I hate seeing her in this shape. I would have loved to see her with a slick shinny coat, meat/ muscle packed on her. I'll come back in around 5 months. Just com. I just don't want to hear that she didn't make it.
Get some goat milk powder and mix it to her feed as the goat milk powder is good for horses that had to much antibiotics and for a upset tummies and it helps them with the worm problem it makes the worms easy to get rid of
Does Piper still get plenty of nourishing milk formula? It seems like she was w/o milk for awhile before you found her & that time is a mystery. Seems like dry foods don't provide that part of the diet. Just watching the baby girls w/their moms.
Most of the pro horse jokers use probiotics and other stuff don’t remember. But pro and pre biotic s are good for most animal . I give it to my dog and omega 3 is highly recommended for most all animals, my dog get that too!
Can you test her for lung worm? It’s a fairly common parasite in horse herds and causes pneumonia and poor body condition. I think that ivermectin is one of the remedies.
Piper looks terrible and it's time to admit that you two don't know it all. Many of your fans are going to be unhappy with me saying that but when it comes to the welfare of an animal, I would go up against Godzilla. I've had horses for longer than 50 years. @@leavrhovec4992 I've always thought she looked a little off even before the pneumonia so I wasn't at all surprised when she did get the pneumonia.

She's still skinny as a rail AND she's still wearing last winter's coat. Please tell us if she's been tested for Cushings!
Good point. Cushings disease could explain all these symptoms.
Can young foals get cushings? Sorry for asking but I've only known older horses getting it.
Awwh...poor baby! Sending healing thoughts and positive energy to her...💟
Hi to U both.l hope piper gets well. The others horses are looking good.😊❤tc
Yep great to see Piper and Ranger’s looking fat and sassy. Thank you for the update ❤😊
That's some good-looking horses.
Best wishes for Piper. You both do your very best to look after the horses in your herd.
Poor baby looks rough. Sending healing vibes.
All that lush grass is filling them out.
I hope the deworming does the trick. She has an adorable whiney. The pups look like bunnies running in the field.
As always Prayers are up for Piper
Pow wow body😂 all that frybread and tacos!! 🧡

Piper! 💔. She does not look well at all. Sending healing thoughts.
