- Hello and welcome to Basic Fishing from New Zealand. For today's video, I decided to have an early start on a childhood spot on the Manukau Harbour of Auckland that I enjoyed fishing at since 2004. This wharf is one of my most favourite place to fish during my childhood and I had lot of fun fishing here but I never got an opportunity to do a video and today was the day. It was a great days fishing as I managed to catch multiple species of fish and also tick some bucket list as well. I had a great time using the sabiki to target bait fish despite not being able to get some table fish but still had lot of fun out on the wharf. It was great getting to catch a kingfish off the wharf after such a long time again as well as catch several mackerel, slimy mackerel and piper.

my basic rule is never to touch the rod anywhere except for the handle because they will break as it did with you as seen in this video, (I think you know this now).I always ask somebody for help / hold the rod, & then lift the fish on the shock leader, once the fish is tired out. love your videos, awesome mate.
This video was awesome! Thanks! :D
Glad you liked it!
That's very cool.
Awesome sunrise. That kingy couldn't resist the mac, into it as soon as it hit the water haha
yea i was so shocked i expected to be played around but that completely caught me off guard
Beautiful footage
Glad you enjoyed it
Good stuff. Amazing to see that wharf so quite.
It sure is!
Awesome man
Thanks for the visit
Beautiful place
Thanks for visiting
always carry a net if pier fishing mate. or at least walk the fish to the shore once you've tired it out lol. but other than that...excellent session...great catch with the kingy!
lol haha i will b honest: i wasn't exactly planning to catch a kingfish that day! XD
@@BasicFishingNZ keep up the good work mate. keeping and eye out for new exciting videos. have a look at my channel too if you get the chance :D
my favorite fisherman on youtube
awwwww thank you so much!
Hell yeah ✌️
awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
Damn gutted about your rod mate. should have walked it to the beach from the start haha looked fun tho bro we live and we learn
lol haha if i knew i was about to land my first kingfish off the wharf in a long time, i would have better setups XD
awesome video smashed that sub button 👍
Awesome thank you!
if you dont want to catch rays who feed off the bottom you must rig your lines up at least a meter off the sinker
Nice one
Thanks for watching
Nice fishing spot
Yes it was
I haven't been to that awesome fishing spot for years I don't even remember where it is now.
iv always measured to the meat of the tail keeps me honest just the way i was shown so i stuck with it
ah lol not a bad idea
Far out I was thinking how on earth would you lift that kingi on the main line. Definitely need to go to water level eh lost heaps around pylons and trying to lift them up. Have you seen the huuuuuge gaff at mangonui wharf? It's epic.
lol haha people should use more crab pots to land the kings
dont forget to enjoy the fight of the fish an eagle ray is a great fight , its like when i hook onto a good dolphin even though we dont always eat it the fight is great , hot fry pans my friend
Wow.. first time saw that wharf so quiet.. what day you been there?
any day but the weekends n holidays....
Good effort landing that king. Sad about the rod and your sunnies.
Thanks 👍
Bro what are you doing up at 1 in the morning 🤣
lol
How do you catch kahawai? All I ever get is undersized snapper, looking to target kahawai
with great difficulty haha problem is the method to target kahawai is the same as snapper
Basic_Fishing the only fish I have caught that I could keep was a large parore, which I did not keep due to its taste reputation and a (thanks to this video I now know what it was) mackerel. Is queens wharf a good place for decent snapper or kahawai?
better to have them than nothing haha. great fish to catch on light tackle. i haven't been there for a while due to construction work. i just hope there are still space to fish off it. i do know that the tank farms completely reduced to half
Hey man awsome video? What day was this?
about a few weeks ago ish
@@BasicFishingNZ next time you go there don't forget heavy gears for the kingies and good size kahawais aswell takes live bait. Awsome videos bro keep it up
haha u'll see in the next video tomorrow....
@@BasicFishingNZ looking forward to it 👍
i would have put a livebait on the second i saw one, but you thought it was silly? if their there in the first place their obviously after the small mac not to mention your 20 meters from the beach and you try lifting it up......
well just because they're there doesn't mean they r hungry all the time lol and yea should have walked down in the first place lol
@@BasicFishingNZ always good to try em out and find out what their doing, also where there is rat kingys there is normally big ones lurking, most probably out a bit further. next time id suggest casting out a livebait in the direction of that pole further out in the water. if you see the rats venturing in again
Hey what rig are you using To tie the live bait for king fish ? :D Can u make a video for that ?? Thank you
its a ledger rig and already released a video of it
Basic_Fishing thank youuuuuuuu
Basic_Fishing ohhhhhh , I already know that rig xddd but I don’t know how to hook the live bait on :/
oh right lol i hooked it through the lips but usually i hook it on the back
Basic_Fishing what gear are you using when u fighting the kingfish ? (Reel, rod, lines) because last time I caught a king but my gear is not strong enough and at the end it got sharked
Trying to figure out where the wharf is .....is it still there or gone
haha still there..... i think lol
What were the schools of? Kahawai?
