  • Hello and welcome to Basic Fishing from New Zealand. For today's video, I decided to have an early start on a childhood spot on the Manukau Harbour of Auckland that I enjoyed fishing at since 2004. This wharf is one of my most favourite place to fish during my childhood and I had lot of fun fishing here but I never got an opportunity to do a video and today was the day. It was a great days fishing as I managed to catch multiple species of fish and also tick some bucket list as well. I had a great time using the sabiki to target bait fish despite not being able to get some table fish but still had lot of fun out on the wharf. It was great getting to catch a kingfish off the wharf after such a long time again as well as catch several mackerel, slimy mackerel and piper.

    my basic rule is never to touch the rod anywhere except for the handle because they will break as it did with you as seen in this video, (I think you know this now).I always ask somebody for help / hold the rod, & then lift the fish on the shock leader, once the fish is tired out. love your videos, awesome mate.

    if you dont want to catch rays who feed off the bottom you must rig your lines up at least a meter off the sinker

    Far out I was thinking how on earth would you lift that kingi on the main line. Definitely need to go to water level eh lost heaps around pylons and trying to lift them up. Have you seen the huuuuuge gaff at mangonui wharf? It's epic.

    How do you catch kahawai? All I ever get is undersized snapper, looking to target kahawai

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      with great difficulty haha problem is the method to target kahawai is the same as snapper

    • @nibiru379
      @nibiru379 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basic_Fishing the only fish I have caught that I could keep was a large parore, which I did not keep due to its taste reputation and a (thanks to this video I now know what it was) mackerel. Is queens wharf a good place for decent snapper or kahawai?

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      better to have them than nothing haha. great fish to catch on light tackle. i haven't been there for a while due to construction work. i just hope there are still space to fish off it. i do know that the tank farms completely reduced to half

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BasicFishingNZ always good to try em out and find out what their doing, also where there is rat kingys there is normally big ones lurking, most probably out a bit further. next time id suggest casting out a livebait in the direction of that pole further out in the water. if you see the rats venturing in again
