The man bro always have been! grew up watching you now 33 and still love watching you, put kiwi's on the map keep up the great work bro!!!! Western Aus
Cheers! One of the best Snapper fights ever filmed! Can't believe that I'm seeing this now for the FIRST time. Props to you -I could feel that buzz right with you. Nothing like that feeling of bringing a monster fish to the boat on less than desired size tackle. @0 Lb mono baby. Nicely done mate!
That was awesome Matt, awesome!!! Got me pumped just watching that I’m going to sleep now and dream of catching big stonka’s like that good manners too you said please🤣🤣🤣it always pays to have good manners.
Hey Matt. HI from Christchurch. I think you should do some more teaching sessions! You seem to catch big fish when doing them. Remember the jigging session with a big Kingie or the PR knot and instant Trevally? I certainly appreciate your teaching sessions very much. I rewatch and rewatch them! Thanks for the great content!
What a SNAPPER !!!!!! Could not believe that, you just showed us how to rig, cast out, and BAM !!!!! Well Done (as you guys say) BRO !!!! Cheers "Down Under Mike"
Tying the bottom hook on first, then tying the snell, allows super accurate spacing. And if you want to significantly increase the strength of a Uni knot - pass the line through the eye of the hook twice before tying the knot and dont forget the spit before tightening
Love watching theses to pick up tips. Any chance of taking someone out there MATT?? I have underlaying health issues and miss my fishing as I haven't been out for over 6 months due to cancer treatments. I miss my fishing
You deserve to fight the big fish and always awesome to see them go back. Great sustainability only take what you need and have fun fighting the beast.
Well done! Came across your video and was curious about the "straylining" title as I have not heard of that name here in the USA. Well presented instructional video, and wow what a snapper. You have my respect letting her go. We call that CPR here - Catch, Photo, Release.
Brilliant. If you're recreationally fishing to catch over here in New Zealand, it's customary for most to let the first fish go to Tangaroa (the God of the Sea and progenitor of Fish; since maori creation traditions). Then go for sizable catches, not too small or too large for most fish to help keep local fisheries sustainable. It's well worth a trip here just to catch fish and collect shellfish, our seafood is some of the best in the world!
Looks great. Re the snell, I find it a bit easier to tie the end hook first then the other hook as it helps to get the required distance correct. Of course that means the leader must be tied to a swivel or afterwards to the braid or mono main line afterwards as the long end needs to be free to pull through.
Add a small bead above the lumo tube abd jam a toothpick in it and snap it off either side. This bead can be jammed down to stop the lumo tube sliding up keeping your bait positioned how you want it for longer
What a fantastic video. Informative and entertaining. How many wraps do you use on your uni knots? How’d you hurt your finger? I’ve given myself many a cut rushing to get a bait in the water haha
BeRad I have watched this episode so many times. Matt your enthusiasm is infectious. Keep up the good work. Have you anything in the pipeline in the way of new shows to be aired on Australian TV in 2018/2019
Does the half hitch not weaken the line once the baits gone? And you’re left with a few half hitches in the line. Always wondered when I see baits getting half hitched.. great vid as usual
Another great video ! I wanted to ask, when deep dropping for queen snapper would you recommend using some large baits as you are using such a whole ballyhoo or a large slab of fish ? I use smaller pieces of squid, it works but probably could work even better ? Thanks Mate !
This is 'The Best' video for snapper setup in action with basics of setting up the rig to final catch with the same setup... Thanks man
Man I’ve watched this half a dozen times over the years and it keeps getting better 🤙
Matt is a dead set legend. His bait rigging tips helped me land my PB land based pink Snapper @ 72cm 2019 WA metro. Yea he went back swimming too.
One of the best videos I have watched for a long time, awesome!

Freakin mean! I’ve been in the US the last 8 years and straylining for snapper is one of the things I really miss.

Agreed. Great video though :)
i leave the top hook free and just tie the bottom one so you can chop and change between the size of baits you use
Great video from start to finish !!! Thanks...

You sir are a good man letting that beast of a snapper go, cause dam the taste good.
The smaller fatter ones taste better, these big ones aren't as tasty and are the best breeders.
You make awesome videos
Thanks, I'll try

Does the half hitch not weaken the line once the baits gone? And you’re left with a few half hitches in the line. Always wondered when I see baits getting half hitched.. great vid as usual
It's really working
What pound braid do you use?
Great information on rigging dead baits. We don't take that kind of care here (Texas Gulf of Mexico) but I'll be it makes a difference.
wow....cool,,😍👍👍
Love it
