Anxiety and depression definitely preceded the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease by years for me.

I've had PD for 15 years now and fortunately have a positive attitude about living to the full. I spent the first half of my professional life working as a Psychiatric Social Worker here in the UK. I was so pleased to hear you dicussing suicidal thoughts in such an open and serious way. It's vital to pick up cues that a sufferer might be planning the 'unthinkable', and respond constructively, supportively and lovingly. You gave very good advice.
It still feels like we Brits are still diffident about confronting this issue openly, but it's no good regretting not doing it, too late.
I'd agree that apathy and lack of motivation are a problem. I definitely suffer from these, but I don't consider myself depressed or anxious.
    Keep up the good work!

There is no cure for Parkinson’s. Why would there be a cure for depression and anxiety.

My best friend who was diagnosed with Parkinson's did not have severe anxiety until she started the medication for it. Have you ever heard of the medicine bringing on the anxiety?

Thanks for your question. We recommend that all questions about medication side-effects be discussed with the physician who prescribed the medication, because each individual's circumstances are unique.
One tough thing about this subject is that the impacts of Parkinson's on dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine systems may all play a role in the development of anxiety and other non-motor symptoms, so it can be challenging to sift through the variables. This is why questions about an individual's experience of anxiety and medication is best referred to the prescribing physician: there are so many nuances to consider.
Finally, while some research has found that dopaminergic therapies may worsen impacts of anxiety for some people (for example: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2987522/), the subject not fully understood. More research is needed to fully understand the relationship between dopamine-based therapies, serotonin, norepinephrine, and anxiety.

    blank wall next time?

I was quite shocked that my doctor put me on an antianxiety medicine when I told her I was certain that I didn't have anxiety. That it was something else. I didn't know what it was. I had no name for it. I landed in the ER and they said stop taking that medicine. So what may appear to a doctor who isn't clear on the variety of other symptoms that you have maybe results and not getting the right diagnosis.

You keep talking about care partners as if there is an assumption that we all have one. I find that almost despicable.

Why would it be despicable ? I don't have one but I was not offended .
