St. Elsewhere had some pretty shocking endings for their episodes for 1980s prime time network television, but pretty tame by today’s standards when you compare it to shows like Breaking Bad.
He talks about it later with a nurse who asked what he did after she slashed him. He said he stood there for a minute trying to hold his face together then he punched her lights out The scar really wasn’t that bad but he became so sensitive about it until he heard he had HIV He was such a great doctor and so good to his patients...just didn’t show similar respect for his female co workers though
This knocked the TV world off its' axis back in 1986 - I remember there were entire articles in TV Guide, the entertainment magazines, even major newspapers (and not even in the entertainment section) about this one controversial scene. Even some of the show's creators, who always pushed the envelope, wondered out loud if they had gone too far with this particular storyline.

This is a creepy and unsettling scene.
God, this girl was not attractive at all.
This was quite clumsily edited in the syndicated version.
Bobby has a handsome face why would anyone want to slash it Poor Bobby
Why the hell would someone slash that perfect dreamy face of his?!!!! Poor Bobby.
Hell hath no fury, like a woman scorned.
... TOTALLY saw that one coming.

I love that song
He is just too damn cute.
Haven't seen this since it aired and still remembered that moment. It was such a shock!!
This is before Fatal Attraction right?
WTF was that about ?.
Does he survive the cocaine rage attack?? I can"t find it on google lol
He later dies of AIDS. Very depressing storyline.
Cocaine rage.
Why did she do that??
Mark Harmon is a carpenter in his spare time. He likely could build the boats on NCIS maybe.
Which episode is this?
Slice of Life
Season 4 episode 5. Syndicated version/TH-cam doesn’t show the scene to full effect. It was WOW in first run.
From 3:04 to 5:01 he's wearing Marty McFly's shirt!
