- Mario Strikers Battle League is now out and its......not so great. Let's talk about what this game did differently and why it's a pretty boring experience. This video is my opinion on the game and you are welcome to have your own, remember when commenting!

The current state of this game is definitely on Nintendo and not Next Level Games. These are the same people who made Luigi’s Mansion 3 and the previous Mario Strikers games so they know how to make good games. Nintendo needs to stop releasing unfinished sports games and using “free updates” as an excuse to make the game feel like a finished product later on

I didn’t buy it because of the lack of content. More people need to do the same but that’s the problem with a lot of Nintendo fans. They will buy pretty much anything Nintendo puts out regardless of quality
I don't understand why people are so upset with the game. It's honestly mind blowing how people are so upset over the character roster and map selection. Many people seem to overlook many of the improvements MSBL has over MSC and SMS. Whether its more competitive and involved gameplay with mechanics such as perfect tackles and team tackles or the addition of gear and clubs. At it's core MSBL is a improved version of SMS in every way imaginable. Many who play it are upset it isnt charged however MSBL wasnt intended to be Charged. Charged is an extremely fun and chaotic game dont get me wrong however, it was often critiqued for its chaotic gameplay; Especially when it came to the map events and megastrikes. MSBL went back to its gamecube roots and hit the nail on the head by improving upon it greatly. Sure there are less characters and stadiums total then charged but is that really that big of an issue? Even if there were more characters the optimal builds would more or less be the same. It would just be different characters scoring goals. Thats far from a deal breaker to me. Furthemore, when it comes to stadiums each club has its own club stadium which you can edit to your liking. You can change things such as floor patterns, goals posts. etc. The overall gameplay of the game is great and has more depth then the previous two entries thanks to gear, new mechanics, and a more involved stat system as previously mentioned. People also seem to have a major issue with no 4 vs 4 online mode but if we are being completely honest 4 vs 4 online would be a chaotic mess and would flow poorly. Im not exactly sure what people expected when they bought MSBL. At its core its a soccer game so its gonna be a bit repetitive. Theres still cup battles and even unlockable gear. I myself am very pleased with the game. I also may be in the minority for this part of the take but I for one look forward to the addition of characters in the future rather than having more at launch. It's a reason to come back to the game at a later date. Overall I am pleased with the game and look forward to seeing what club leagues and the other updates bring to the game.
@@alecramirez542 no character feels special anymore and the game gets tale quick. It’s not just that I want a lot of characters to play, I want a lot of different enemies to face off against. I don’t have the game due to lack of content but if I had a main they wouldn’t feel special as the roster is so small. It is 2022 and Nintendo is a triple A company. Nintendo didn’t even meet the bare minimum for the standard of today games. Indie games would have more content.
As a game dev I laugh at a lot of Nintendo games. A lot of them(especially sports/multiplayer ones) lack a lot of content. I can make a football game in unity in a year and it’d have more content albeit without the amazing animations/visuals unless I had a team of artists/animators.
And update, sales in japan are not as good, it only sell 1/4 of what Aces sold years ago.

@@alecramirez542 I personally don’t think this game would be any more chaotic 4v4 or not. It’s still way too out of control with 2v2 in such a small space with 8 characters. You could just constantly tackle people and the worst you get out of it is an item, which by the way disappear after a few seconds making them not as useful as the ones in the previous games as you can’t regain much control back with them. Also this game released in 2022, that’s 2 decades before the first one, it’s common sense that a game 20 years would be expected to improve on things like the gameplay and the online portion and such, but this game has a very lacklustre amount of offline content for a game that’s made by the same company who gave us much much more almost 20 years back. You would think they would be able to do the same good work again but no, the problem is that nowadays, there will always be those consumers who eat up everything Nintendo dishes out, regardless of quality or quantity, they will hesitantly pay £50 on the game just because their favourite cartoony character is on the front cover. They don’t realise that they are being manipulated by these companies for their money. They are more less paying for the label not the actual game and they think everything is fine because it revolves around their favourite character who they grew up with. We live in a society where people gaslight themselves into thinking it’s great because they don’t want to accept the reality where it’s not great and it’s starting to go downhill. You should have a much higher tolerance for corporations like Nintendo as they have proven time and time again that they can make a great game when they actually put the care and love into it first because immediately thinking of the profits, they rush the project to get another going and it’s just a constant cycle that never ends because the way they view this is that if they are making profit, then why bother putting in extra effort. There’s bloody fan games that are typically better quality than the actual games they are trying to rebirth for the company’s failed projects, because those people don’t actually get that much from making a fan game, they make it because they have respect for the mascot, not trying to abuse the mascots popularity for a quick profit. Eventually the masses will realise that all of this is a scam and less and less people will respect the company as the company can’t even bother to respect the mascot nor the fanbase enough to actually put the effort into making a quality game worth the price tag. Yes there will always be those people who can’t see the bigger picture and buy whatever has the special logo on it because they stay too attached too one thing and don’t branch out with different opinions and expectations with will lead to regret in the long term.
@@stevenmcburney8167 The gane came out 17 years ago so not quite 2 decades but I get your point about time. I do agree that online should be improved within that time period as well as improving gameplay as well. Nintendo did just that! The 1st game had no online at all and the 2nd ones online was of poor quality megastrikes would often glitch and lag etc. Battle league has far superior online and the gameplay in my opinion is far better as well. With new mechanics such as perfect moves team tackles changing characters stats and positioning mattering more. It's reminiscent of SMS but heavily improved in all aspects. When it comes to the single player content it's on par with the previous games it has 6 cups which is twice as many as charged and 2 more then sms (if you don't count the super cups) you don't unlock characters but instead unlock the bushido gear from beating the cups the 1st time. I wouldn't say the previous two gave much much more single player content if anything I'd say it's equal or that battle league has more single player content due to the amount of cups Battle League has. MSC had the challenges but those took a grand total of 30 minutes to complete so I mean. Overall I myself don't feel sucked in and manipulated to enjoy the game I genuinely feel that way. Sure there is only 10 characters and 5 maps but that shouldn't be the end all be all. More will be added in future updates and I look forward to them. As I said it's. a reason to revisit the game in the future.
My verdict is that the game has a good base and plays well but it doesn't have enough content to be worth the $60. After you beat the cup battles there's basically nothing left to do but play online matches until you eventually get bored and stop playing.
I agree on the Boom Boom sucking and the technicality of the game. Although, sometimes Boom Boom makes good plays. Although, it's usually the opponents' Boom Boom, not yours.
The boom boom seems really random and inconsistent. Sometimes he keeps blocking insane shots and other times he keeps missing lame weak shots.

@Super Mario Boom Boom will either blocking shots with all his strength, or legit kick the ball into the goal like he did yesterday when I played this game. Luckily for me, it was the opposing team, but Bowser was about to make Boom Boom go up in flames for what he did.

Multiple options for goalies would have been neat... say, Boom Boom being middle of the road, a Pianta better at stopping super kicks with his sheer beefiness but slower, while Kritter's reach and speed makes him better against normal shots but he's more likely to get bowled over by supers.
That would've been cool.

Mario Strikers charged was one of my favorite childhood games. I was so excited for the return of this game, and it was extremely disappointing. I miss the chaos of sidekicks and captians instead of all captians
Yeah it was definitely my favourite sports games of them all, or at least top 3. There are probably games I’m forgetting. Also my all time favourite Nintendo series is the Mario&luigi series and I was sad that alphadream went bankrupt and all but tbh it’s probably for the best. Besides the series was already getting Nintendo-fied, it would have only gotten progressively worse and diminish the series. So I’m kinda glad it ended. All that I would want is for Nintendo to maybe remaster the collection on switch as a bundle for £50 as they are all old games

personally, my biggest problem was the ost, this game has the most uninteresting, repetitive, generic you name it out of any mario sport game I played, they all just sound the same
I used to love this game on GC. I still can’t believe they mapped the buttons so terribly and don’t allow customization…
Man and I wanted a super slugger game but every sports game have been subpar or a step down from previous entry. I also like that you had one captain and chose different minions in your team with special abilities.
It’s gotten so bad that I would rather have a port of Mario Super Sluggers than a new Mario baseball game and I bet a lot of others feel the same way

Yeah bro and I rather have the game cube port. Perfect balance of mechanics to have a good match yet intuitive enough that someone who never played could pick up enjoy.

What surprises me the most is why does Nintendo have to rush these games? Especially in the Switch era. "Free updates" later on are not ok, I'm sorry. In that case the game shouldn't be fully priced from the beginning. Not cool, Nintendo, not cool.

I think the reason people are so much more disappointed with this game compared to the other crappy sports games on the switch is because the mario strikers games mean a lot more to people then mario tennis and golf etc. People loved how unique the strikers series was which is why it’s so heartbreaking to see all of the personality sucked out of it.
Nah. It's the gamers being fed up with Nintendo itself. They cut 50% content on their mario knockoff games and sell them at full price. I'm still pissed they took team mode on mario party superstars.

@Bowser Fan Aces and Super Rush were fun games. Your opinion is just trash. Also, have you seen the animations? How is this game lacking in personality at all? It’s such a good game, even if it lacks some things.

My gripes with the game:
•I dont like having to choose almost half the roster as my team, I liked having 1 main character that can do the special strike and the same 3 normal characters on your team that can't.
•while the animations are absolutely beautiful, I feel they lack character compared to the first game, especially with intros, we went from characters having playful yet competitive animations that were fierce or sassy, to something kinda toned down and generic, not to mention no context on why the fields are like so and why characters are just being shot out of portals into a globe(in my opinion of course)
•scoring animations done seem as... hype.. I guess, the original game had this super ecstatic Celebrations like Koopa sliding on his shell yelling goal or Luigi running around with his arms out, just stuff that seem very characteristic of soccer players.
•the game seems like a sensory overload, so many flashing stuff that I personally feel makes it hard to focus or see what I'm doing like the tackle the circle surrounding characters feet or the tackle arrows.
•I'm not a big fan of the half and half arenas, I liked having the choice of an arena that fits for each character as their home stage and unlocking them, plus they looked and felt like real fields and having the crowds chanting during the game or having the announcer yell "gooooooaaall" is just a classic that I wish they continued with, it doesn't really FEEL like soccer.
I do have other gripes, but since nintendo announced there will be free updates to the game, im going to hold out on voicing them just to see what they add.
The game is fun to play and there are a lot of things i DO like about the game, but it feels extremely lackluster in content and character, sad since the mario sports games have always been so much fun, I own all the gamecube games and some of the wii ones. :/

I think that Nintendo will bring a lot of content to this game. We just need to hope isn’t paid DLCs. I also think that is better when Nintendo sells a complete game with less updates then games that need a lot of updates just to sell them in a specific date.

If next level games keep going down this path you’ll have Luigis mansion 4 with one level hotel and they will give you DLC to open up the basement and the next several levels of upstairs oh and Daisy still will not be included Rosalina instead!
Yeah… the fact that it’s a sports game already makes it less interesting to many people… But at the same time, the new additions are great but if you own Mario strikers charged then is there really a reason to play this game. In my opinion, no.

The game, like so many others on the Switch were at launch, is unfinished. I think that Nintendo's strategy to release only half-finished games is to see how many people actually buy it, so they know how much additional effort they "have to" put into the game. The more people buy it, the more content we get. These games aren't rushed, they are deliberately unfinished so Nintendo can rip us off multiple times. And if a game sells really well, the additional content will be paid DLC. It's a crooked game they are playing.

Yes, they release products as a service, but usually they don't make people pay for content that people have come to expect from these games.

Most people aren't blaming Toad for this. They're mostly blaming on Rosalina. But still these lack of contents at launch including the short sized rosters are all Nintendo's fault.
I completely agree...Daisy should have been included right off the bat and now that she's in as a free update is rather insulting

This seems like an issue with Nintendo rushing deadlines. Next Level has always released fully featured games, but their first game post-buyout is lacking in so many areas.
It's sad. I'll see what this is like in a year, though I think the online players will be too skilled by then.

That's what I was thinking. This is more than likely Nintendo's doing instead of Next Level Games. Considering their track record in the past, or more recently with Nintendo Switch Sports, giving us games that make us bored after Heaven knows how many plays isn't really good. Battle League is basically the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I didn't name Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Golf Super Rush because at least they have more than 10 characters and the inclusion of Daisy.
The Game Cube and the Wii Mario Strikers Games are much better...
The first season of Battle League being a week away from launch makes sense. Gives time for people to get the game to have a good size group of people
I think the first season being far away isn’t a problem. Most people have issue with the fact that the mode was disabled online until then.
Actually the original had the unlockable robot characters so that actually make 13. And the first did had a sudo-campaign, but it was pretty much just tournaments with increasing hard cpu.
I said this and I got attacked by newcomers that never touched the strikers series.Be careful man. People dont like hearing the truth. The real reason why people defending this is because it's their first game and they want a good popular mario sports game which is their first game owning. They just dont want to feel disappointed. We're paying 60 dollars for rush game I blamed them.

It’s not a bad game. Considering it took 15 years to make a new one, it definitely should have come out with a whole lot more content.
They are pushing for seasons like apex and fortnite
It most certainly is bad me and my friends got no enjoyment from it whatsoever. Our verdict was that they had taken everything that made the experience so fun out of the game.
I put down the game on day 1 after the cup battle mode and haven't played again since.
Somebody gonna tell him that galactic mode gives 1000 coins per cup?

Heads up - in the beginning, you can distinctly hear a police siren (not sure if this was intentional or not)
The cup modes can get hard too, and they limit what colors you can pick, which is just dumb

You mentioned boom boom was a bad choice. It would have been better if you could switch out types of goalie's. kitter for blocking fast passes and boom boom for blocking power shots and hyper strikes.
my main problem are the stadiums. they are too small and nothing is going on there.

they shouldve kept this game like strikers charged and gave it a more football/soccor name like Mario Strikers League would've been fine;
they had so many opportunities so heres what they should've done:
menu: use the chraged menu make the UI attached to a football
captains: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, DK, Wario, Waluigi, Bowser, Bowser jr, Diddy, Petey, King k Rool, Pauline, King boo, Nabbit, Koopalings, Birdo, Rosalina, Egadd, wiggler
sidekicks: Monty mole, Hammerbro, Toad, Toadette, shy guy, Koopa, Goomba, dry bones, boo, luma, kameks, blooper, spike, pirahna plant
story mode: a sidekicks story, how this works: you cna customize your own sidekick and pick any species koopa dry bones etc, and you go through a school of training so similar to mario golf super rush then you can use them in the main game and online.
strker shop: so this is similar to in game shops however you dont use real money, the gear options are split into different sides captains and sidekicks you can buy headgear body hands shoes
example: imagine a hoodie with a poison mushroom on it saying some slogan like watch out or toxic tackler
online: online cup, exhibition, ranked and striker clubs
stages ideas
mushroom hill
luigis mansion
kongo koluseum
bowser lava pit
rosalina galactic tour
king boos graveyard

So basically what you're saying. Make it liked charged but with more field, captains, sidekicks, with this kind deep mechanic from this game and gimmick from this game. Possible more cup battle modes and super hard mode with this battle league online? Yeah I said that and I got attacked for it. It sucks these characters dont have their own themes anymore. I dont know why NextLevelGames went with everyone is being a captain and a sidekick route. Theres nothing special about them. They messed up with the hyper strikes too. I thought captains were the only ones to use it but everyone can? This is seriously dumb.

What about the colours of the uniforms. When you play with your color and your opponent pick a similar color close to your color uniform and you will be confused which one is your team
Man could have been cool if your side of the field had some sort of small advantage adding a layer of complexity.
I mean if you win all of the cups you can play the harder mode which is 1000 per cup, but it’s really difficult sometimes
I agree with you heavily about to boom boom problem but the thing for me is that he doesn't block for me but the other teams boom boom is a God at guarding
I haven’t played this game yet but by the look of it it looks really fun and yes may be its not a game where the careters may be lacking and other stuff you mentioned that may be bad but once you look at it you should be happy what you get because its not a bad game and I can’t wait to see if I can get this game later on the line and may be it might be fun then you were explaining

Probably you are not aiming your shots correctly. Once you curve your balls he will let alot of goals in. Only using the button for shooting without aiming, nothing will go in.
Galactic cups really expose how terrible the ai in this game is

I loved Mario Strikers Charged! Its actually my favorite Mario Sports game. I thought I was terrible when I was playing this like how I played charged, but I was so wrong! I would've been happy if Nintendo re-released mario strikers charged with an updated roster and new stages instead

Yes and no. The gameplay can be fun but the problem is it will get repetetive fast because the content is lacking. I would wait few months until they add more content before picking this up even as a newcomer.
No, it's a joke, completely against the roots of the series. Play the 1st one or Charged, those are still great.

Nintendo is trying to have a game sell over time, rather than have the majority of sales all at once
Think about it.
Let's say we have three people. The first person picks it up at launch. The second person picks it up three months down the road, after their favorite character comes out as DLC. The third person buys it some more months down the road, after all the DLC is finished coming out.
This keeps it on the shelf longer and keeps people buying over time, instead of the majority of sales being made in the first two weeks and ending up in the bargain bin after two months.
Why not just release a finished game from the beginning and release new DLC to keep improving the game instead? Or would that require too much effort?

Ngl the season not beginning right away makes it more realistic in my opinion because in most sports there is a season like say you get involved in football in December you cant play for 4-5 months so waiting 7 days isn't that bad

Lack of characters, lack of modes, lack of courses, lack of a real practice arena to practice to your hearts content, Nintendo waiting to release more content later down the year while keeping the "free" label on to keep everyone hopeful and intrigued, mmmmmm smells like a typical trash Nintendo move. They did this exact same thing with the recent Mario Golf and Mario Tennis.....oh and Nintendo Sports. You're right though, the tutorial is too rushed and stressfull imo. Dem Yoshi's are Spartans.

I really don't think that this game is bad. The only thing that I think that they should do is to add a few characters and stadiums but now the game have a really good gameplay and themes and he's really fun to play with friends.
