What I love about this scene is that it gives the audience confirmation that the Driver is a complete psychopath, that he’s willing to do anything to fulfil his delusional hero complex despite the fact he is the hero of this story.
I don’t really see him as a psychopath or a maniac, just an extremely cold blooded and violent guy when the situation calls for it. He shows pretty much no emotion when turning into a savage.
That’s part of the brilliance of this movie, having the unknown backstory on the driver and not having a clue that he is the way he is. Or why he is the way he is after his ruthless nature in an extreme setting is exposed. We’re all pretty much left in the dark about that, haha especially the antagonists.
This was the movie that made me love Ryan. I liked him in the new blade runner too but this is his stand out performance. This movie was brutal but in the trailers you didn’t ever see it coming. He did amazing in this movie.

Throwing the mattress in front of the door saved his life. Gave our protagonist enough time to deal with assailant #1, and then turn around and blast assailant #2 to kingdom come.
He was just a really dangerous man trying to be good but failing still because of the people and situations he continued choosing to be part of. He wanted to be happy but consequences keep reaching him.
The blood and gore is always brief but you never expect it and its always shocking. This film is a masterpiece but absolutely not for the faint of heart
This is no affirmation of your misogyny. Plenty of males would have responded in similar way if violently presented with his advantages. There's no special feminine brain chemistry on display in this scene. The violence he showed her only confirmed that he was willing to hurt/torture her for the truth and her femininity and silence could no longer buy her any presumption of innocence or protection from his ruthless determination to survive. She responded logically according to the more favorable implied terms of is offer and was portrayed as clearly no stranger to being strong-armed by males to participate in their crimes and probably otherwise do their bidding...thats the world the character lived in. A world only a few showers away from the animal kingdom.

Hasn't been a movie quite like this since, a masterpiece!
Bro, that is one of the best shotgun kills in cinema history.
I loved gosling character he is clearly an absolute psycho but loves that woman and the kid and wants a life with them
Personal TOP 10 film of all time ....Why they dont make original great flicks like this is beyond me
I love this scene. So Raw 🦂
I remember filming this scene. Literally me and the rest of the cast worked really hard on it.
it would be a dream to see Ryan acting as jacket in a possible adaptation of hotline miami
Directed by the director of the Raid movies.
This film reminds me so much of my time in Brazil 🎉
XDDDDD
Throwing the mattress in front of the door saved his life. Gave our protagonist enough time to deal with assailant #1, and then turn around and blast assailant #2 to kingdom come.
This movie is art and i will never forget!!💪
this was such a great movie.
I LOVE RYAN GOSLING
He was just a really dangerous man trying to be good but failing still because of the people and situations he continued choosing to be part of.
He wanted to be happy but consequences keep reaching him.
My favourite scene in the film. Exceptionally cinematic.
This man is literally ME!!
You're crazy! You're fucking crazy!!!
That's me man, not you. I'm the real Ryan Gosling.
Was really a nice movie ,the dreamy armosphere the action driving and killing
I remember I was 9 when this came out and this scene came out of nowhere and scared the hell out of me.
I love it when the driver has to get involved. Violence to the maxx.
3:32 Me when I see any civilian in Red Dead Redemption 2
Bro🤣🤣🤣🤣
this movie is so unbelievably underrated
This film was unexpectedly amazing!!! 🙌🏿🙌🏿
He handled the recoil of that shockwave pretty well.
The blood and gore is always brief but you never expect it and its always shocking. This film is a masterpiece but absolutely not for the faint of heart
A bit of the old ultra violence. Lovely.
Easily one of Ryan Goslings best roles 🔥
Very artistic amplifying the shotgun blasts, just like the cereal box scene in 'Kill Bill'.
i really appreciate how long these clips are
0:32 ryan threatens her to hit the notification bell
Saw D R I V E at the movies back when it came out badass experience. One of my favorites
I can see why Hotline Miami drew a lot of inspiration from this film.
The perfect piece of cinema.
He went beast mode as a driver and a fighter in this movie lmao this is one of his best movies
"Every once in a while you give 'em a little smack" Sean Connery voice.. "Resets their hard drive" "and all is right in the world" *Bill Burr*😆😆
