Just for those unaware on why people hate this scene so much.
they were going for how people in the army talk to each other but they forgot the rank and status difference that make this seem more like a insult then banter. “Master chief” isn’t his name, it’s his rank. It just so happens to be the highest enlisted rank in the unsc and that’s not even getting to the status difference that makes this even more unrealistic for banter. Chief is a war hero and savor of humanity. Just like how veteran navy seals get away with teaching officers a lesson in humility, chief has the status to demand respectful behavior at all times regardless of rank. That’s why this comes off as bitching and not banter.
It’s just a smug fucking remark out of nowhere. THE Master Chief shows up years after his disappearance, is immediately committed to helping the Infinity the exact moment he hears another human speak, and gets Lasky’s recon group out of deep shit. And then this bitch has the temerity to drop this dickhead comment with no sign of respect whatsoever.
I still don't understand it. I mean, yeah; Del Rio is been an asshole for treating a literall superhero like trash (lets be clear; no man in the world has done such heroics as Chief; he is not comparable to any living soldier... he has done the equivalent of assasinating Hitler and discovering the Camps before the Hollocaust, avoiding the Soviet Union to lauch nukes and causing its disoution in the process and managing the peace in Middle East single handelly...) but 343 industries is NOT endorsing how Del Rio treats Chief; in fact both Palmer and Laski do not dare to obey his orders, due to sheer respect for that man who is VERY MUCH under both of them in the chain of command...
In fact, the moment the UNSC dicovers how Chief has been abandoned in Requiem; they are horrorized; and they wait no minute do demote Del Rio and decomission him the Infinity; and inmediatelly send Lasky to assist Chief in whatever fashion he can...
So, yeah; Del Rio misstreats Chief in this scene; but 343 lets very clear that he is being an asshole by doing so, and he is severelly punished for it... so I still do not get why people hate 343' treatment of the Chief; when really, they are simply intorducing antagonistic human characters in the story... 🤷♂

Palmer was always one thing, like yeah maybe it was banter maybe it wasn't. She kinda had a stick up her butt but that was fine. I always hated Del Rio more, like I could sorta see where he was coming from but at the same time come on man, show a little bit of respect. Lasky hella deserved that promotion
So thankful for this. My parents got me the Halo 4 edition xbox 360 (still have it) the christmas it launched and I never finished the game. I actually quit on the first mission and always said ill go back to it. Low and behold, i'm 24 now, and have been going through the roughest of rough patches recently... fired up halo 4 on the Master Chief Collection only to find that via the cloud streaming, there is no fucking dialog on cutscenes. Thankfully 10 years ago someone took care of this problem, yet in 2023 Microsoft hasnt corrected this issue. Thanks OP.

Spartan IVs are smaller, weaker, less experienced, and all around inferior to Spartan IIs like chief and palmer’s here talking shit?

Seems they traded up the physical enhancements for technological ones built into the armor. So yeah, less impressive but now they can create more in a shorter time without the original health risks.
