    Thanks for showing this helpful video. You've given me some ideas of how I might be able to use a universal fuel pump for my 15 year old carburetted touring motorcycle to replace the OEM one at 1/5 the cost. Use of a safety pressure switch would mimic the OEM's 4 wire fuel pump while using a 2 wire pump. Again, many thanks.

    Any sensor or switch with a single connector completes the ground path through the body of the sensor/switch, putting Teflon tape on the pipe threads may interfere with proper grounding. Tape or no tape this 3 prong switch is isolated and will work, but your oil pressure switch may not.

    You also installed a filter in between the tank and your pump, what micron size is recommended? Do you see a downside of having a momentary push button supplying power to the pump. Power would only be present when your finger depresses the switch. This seems easier than the oil pressure switch and wiring described.

    Hello, I have an unorthodox usage for one of your fuel pumps. It is a e8012s. I would like to know how much wattage/amperage I need to supply to it at 12 volts to continuously operate it.
    I intend to use it as a makeshift water pump because I have some hoses, one of these pumps, and some water to move out of my way. Either I'm going to use a battery with a fuse if you let me know the current draw, or I will use a 115vac to 12vdc soandsowattage power supply if you let me know the wattage requirement.
    I would much prefer to do the latter.

      ***** My car sits long periods of time. When I come to start it the fuel has vacuumed back in the fuel line. Therefore, because I run a mechanical pump there is not fuel there to start it and pull fuel. If I install an external pump without a relay and with the oil pressure safety, will the pump still prime when the ignition is keyed? I'm trying to understand how electrical pumps work on carb vehicles if as you said in the video "the pump won't work if engine is not running."

      I really wish I coud install a in-line fuel pump but it will be really hard as the exhaust runs on the same side of the fuel lines. If I can find/mod a heat shield and figure out where and how to drill holes for the fuel pump/filter then an external might work.. But in the long run it would be easier to install a in tank pump assembly.. --All I have to do is drop the tank (again) install rehook up the lines and wires, make an access panel out of my jeep tub for easy access to the fuel pump then reassemble.
      If my idea doesn't work, I will check out your fuel pump. Thanks for your help! :)

    • @j.b.p6478

      The mechanics game plan is to install a external fuel pump.....Yes the fuel pump is running but here is my problem! The fuel pressure is fluctuating from 20 to 40....or 15 to 35 back & forth, all over the place! In turn the 1995 jeep is driving like sh**.....Its using twice as much fuel, its getting 9 mpg when it was getting 15 mpg! Its hesitating/bucking during acceleration, up hills and it seems like its just getting worse as time goes on & you can see wetness around the outside edge of the throttle body like its getting too much fuel like maybe its not burning......Its been 7 mths now that i been tackling this issue! I have changed out the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, TPS, checked MAP ok, checked IAC ok, checked fuel regulator ok, fuel filter, fuel injectors! Now we are gonna tie in the external pump so that it will come on at the same time just like the internal fuel pump....If it fixes the problem then we know its the problem. Im not a mechanic, i just know basics....My mechanic has been doing this his whole life, i say over 40 yrs but not much experience with jeep wranglers is the problem cause we are both scratching are heads now! Im hoping this does the trick but im still wondering if im still gonna have issues down the road...The external pump is $60 & labor is $40...$100 total to see if it works....If it doesnt then its just $40! He is affraid that if you try and take the internal fuel pump out that you will bust off the bolts that needs removed to get to the fuel tank...He states that it will be costly for me in labor if they run into problems.....I can see this but you just never know unless you try is how im thinking BUT thats where im at! Hope this helps! I will write your number down, right now im headed to try out this external fuel pump!...Fingers are crossed but like i said....My thoughts is im gonna be tackling this issue down the road it feels like even if it fixes the issue! Just one of these problems that will not go away & there is No check engine light telling you what the problem might be! TTYL
      P.S.- Is the fuel pressure suppose to be steady at its spec pressure or atleast within 5 lbs give or take (fluctuating)?????

    • @j.b.p6478
      @j.b.p6478 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was quick..lol ....Thank you....I didnt think so!....Since this issue has been so long my brain is fried & hands in the air!....One of them situations! So im all ears at this point!...Right now i dont see anything else except fuel pump or pointing the finger at the throttle body itself!...Gonna tackle this external pump & if it works i will keep it on but eventually the internal will have to come out im affraid! I just feel its either now or later.....The mechanic thinks if this fixes it that it will be cheaper on the wallet which is true!...So again my hands are up in the air so what can ya do!....TTYL

    • @j.b.p6478
      @j.b.p6478 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got a question....Maybe you might know or maybe not, just throwing it out there!....Awhile back i had a gas line break right behind the rear drivers side tire.....When you look up in this area it looks like a major hose hwy if ya know what im talking about!.....I dont know if this has anything to do with my issue or not cause like i mentioned....Im thinking all over at this point....My mechanic had replaced that line loop with a rubber fuel line.....But this was 4 yrs ago....During the 4 yrs the screw clamps holding it together has sprung a leak twice but both times just re-tightened the clamps and it was fixed! Im wondering if this needs to be fixed with original parts but we wondered if ya could even find the part since its like a kaotic junction of fuel lines in this area im talking about! Like i mentioned im trying to cover all avenues at this point!.....Thank you!

    • @BrookNBones
      @BrookNBones 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +apdabeast15 Typically when I've installed items that required an "I" terminal or power / ignition terminal that would allow something to only run when the ignition is on I have used a fuse port on my fuse box. If you do not have an open fuse port that has 12v + to the open fuse location, typically one can be accessed by purchasing a double fuse port adapter from the parts store. Simply unplug your fuse, plug in the adapter, replace the fuse in the 1st position. Then you can add a separate fuse for the fuel pump at this location through the ignition or "I" terminal by connecting it to the wired output of the fuse port adapter. Just try to use a port that not already filled with a fuse greater than 20 amps as this could cause an overload of the wiring feeding up to the fuses. If the port you jump off of already has a 20 amp or greater rating the possibility of running to much current through one fuse port is possible. Just don't hook it directly to power otherwise the fuel pump will not shut off.

    • @apdabeast15
      @apdabeast15 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JudgmentDay78 Thanks a lot! I did get the pump the work with an open fuse port that powers on at ignition on only. Currently running and driving that way. Problem is with the oil pressure safety switch! When hooked in series with the fuel pump..the pump doesn't cut on at all. When I unhook the switch and run the fuel to ignition on and ground...it runs fine! Not sure if location of the switch has anything to do with it or with it being the the 1st time getting it to run, maybe the psi for the oil wasn't yet high enough! I the process of swapping radiator and adding electric fans...will hook the switch back up since the engine has now been running long enough to build up pressure.

      Latangela Wilson, Installing a universal pump on your vehicle will not be any different than shown here. You will need to remove the in tank pump and replace it with a section of hose. It is most likely the in tank pump will not allow fuel to be pulled through it.

    I want to install one of these pumps as a booster pump. My CJ7 is not run for months and needs a short boost to pump the fuel to the carb prior to starting. Do I install the electric pump prior or after the mechanical pump?

      I don't think it would really matter considering electrical chokes on carbs our after it

    my question is, 2003 ford explorer V-6, automatic, can I install an aftermarket electric pump in place of stock? ( Externally) ?

    • @AirtexFuelPumps

      Yes, you can install an externally mounted pump. But first, you will need to remove the in-tank pump. The original in-tank pump will not allow fuel to be pulled through it.

    Kinda sloppy on that install. No protection on the cramp terminals so they don't develop bad connections and needs a proper sealant not junk teflon tape. Teflon tape is for beginners.

      You mean crimp terminals. Cramps are what happen to muscles. Teflon tape is used by many professionals. Teflon®* PTFE is designed to work with gasoline, leaded or unleaded.

    I wonder if when you stop making commercials if you will learn to use thread sealer (Permatex Thread sealant) instead of my plumbers Teflon tape. That's pretty ghetto teflon tape, you might as well use some duct tape and super glue to fix a transmission issue too Huh? Check engine light... Get some Tape! Ghettoshop Proven!
