Heavy vs Light 35s? | Daily Driving with 35s EXPERIMENT Part 2 - RESULTS are IN!

- People like to list all the reasons why 35s are a bad idea on 4Runners. While they aren't convenient to run, I like the performance and look. There are drawbacks but I am trying to reduce those one by one if possible. This experiment should be interesting; huge shout out to RRW and Trailbuilt for making this possible.

General Grabber X3, Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtremes, Kenda Klevar RT, Nitto Ridge Grapplers.... all good tires to check out to. I personally run the AT2 xtremes and am liking them alot
You might consider testing "pizza cutters." They provide less rolling resistance, better contact patch, better mileage, and are easier on the drivetrain and steering. Less unsprung weight and lower rotational mass are good things. (To a point) Desert racers and others really enjoy them, especially when it comes to performance and various costs. Just ask Kai and Robert Pepper! :)
Yeah….i just can’t get myself to come to that yet. I love the 12.5” look so much
I was going to comment the same thing. I’m not sure why people think they look bad either, it’s not something you can notice from most angles. Going narrower by 20mm or half an inch is a big deal when you multiply that aero drag by 4 not to mention the weight and it still looks hard, I PROMISE
love the kenda RTs 35 x 10.5 on my GX470. A lot less of a pain to fit in the wheel well.
@@OverlandEngineer The 255/85r17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT is 9.8 wide but .5 taller than what the math says really a 245/90r17 or 34.4x9.8r17 . A Toyo Open Country AT3, Nitto Trail Grappler MT, Maxxis RAZR AT have a 35×11.50r17, the Toyo/Nitto are a 265/85r17(a 10.50 are 255 and sometimes a 245 width) best on 7-7.5 width wheel and the Maxxis is a 285/85r17 best on a 7-8 width wheel.
He’s right. Pizza cutters are hideous
Putting in that work 👏🏼👏🏼 let’s gooo 🏁
Really debating on going for the Mickey Thompson Baja in 255/85r17 for my 4runner. I just dont know how much more work past a bmc I'll need to do
Yeah hard to say, they will be a lot easier to fit for turning. Probably still need the fender clearancing but maybe not given the lack of offset with a narrow wheel?
Your mpg went up when you put skid plates on seriously? Is there a video where you discuss this or can you summarize your setup please? Thanks for the video!
For sure! Yeah in my dedicated skids video. I think I show some scan gauge screenshots. The full underbelly skids helped with undercarriage drag quite a bit because 4Runners don't have much. Many typical cars have like full underbelly plastic to help with this!
I’ve had the Toyos on 33s, 34s, and now 35s. I’m not running any additional weight/armor and my 4Runner drives pretty good. Capable and doesn’t feel crazy sluggish all while being a daily driver.
This is what I figured! Not regeared?
@@OverlandEngineer nope, maybe will do eventually but not high on the list
Good stuff. I'm running 33's on my 2nd gen tacoma and have been waffling back and forth on going to 35's. Right now I'm leaning towards sticking with the 33's. It's just an order of magnitude more difficult to go to 35's and I don't do a lot of hardcore wheeling. Plus it's my daily driver. Sidenote - I'm heading up to Northern MN from Pennsylvania for 2 weeks on Memorial Day. Planning Echo Lake to Grand Marais, down the lakeshore to Duluth, and then over to Keweenaw in the UP. Any spots I should check out?
Keweenaw is great and probably the most 4WD friendly space in the area!
Id kill to see a lightweight stock setup. Some of us don't hit/have harder trails.
And spending 90% of a trip on the road before the trail anyway, itd be nice to make up some gallons
The Yokohama GEOLANDAR G017 AT XD in 35x12.50r17 is great lighter weight option
These aren't light at all?
