I tried vegetarian and my biweekly episodes did not let up. After two years, I was desperate and went carnivore. My diverticulitis immediately went into remission. It’s now been thirteen months and no episodes have occurred.

Mine was the opposite. I avoided almost all red meat and ate lots of high-fiber veggies and beans. The key was fiber. A long-term carnivore diet leads to cardiovascular disease in most people and is counterproductive in people with diverticulitis. Consider yourself one of the few and lucky.

I have diverticulitis and have been hospitalised for a bad flare up. I have had to reduce my vegetable and fruit intake. I keep seeds and fibre to a minimum each day and when I experience a flare up I just go off the fibre for a few days. This has helped me a lot. Proteins don’t seem to hurt me at all.

@@cherylemaybury9967 my husband had a similar experience back in October. I’ve had him on bland, low fiber since. I pack him low sugar protein drinks, a bouillon cube, a peeled sliced apple and a banana every day for lunch. Dinner is meat, sometimes spaghetti or beef soup, green beans or a peeled potatoe. On his days off I make him hash browns and scrambled eggs with diced ham. He has completely cut out alcohol and coffee, and has switched to 1% milk. It’s been tough for him (and for me), but we’re trying to avoid surgery. We should know on January 9th if the tear is healed.

I’m 70, no smoking or drinking, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, not a lot of red meat, no fried foods, currently focusing on soluble fiber with success over 9 months in significantly lowering cholesterol, not overweight, vigorously swim laps 3x/ wk, walk at least a 2 miles per week, yet sometimes constipated. I believe that constipation caused my recent diverticulosis. I also have GERD. Now I need to figure out how much fiber I can tolerate to avoid reoccurrence. A friend who shares these two diagnoses said that sourdough really helped her so I’m trying that .

I can't eat eggs anymore, goes right thru me,was just diagnosed with diverticulitis n don't know what to eat anymore.Seems like everything blows my stomach up ridiculously. Just had surgery for giant kidney stones, n had no idea about the diverticulitis till I saw another dr.You would have thought with all the scans I've had in two years n my complaints about the pain it would have been diagnosed sooner.I was told it was fatty liver n possibly an ulcer .Its been two months since getting rid of the stones so I know that particular pain is gone.Id like to know why Dr's can't be more helpful in telling you what foods to eat for certain ailments. Thank God for the Dr's on utube.Im 77 n I remember years n years ago the Dr's actually had certain diets for different ailments n would make a copy for you to follow.

Doctor aren't nutritionists, they are people who learned their profession from a text-book. They parrot everything they have learned in medical school. If you're having all the same problems I'm having I will bet it's because you've abused your body your whole life by eating crap. I also have kidney stones and Diverticulitis and I can tell you the only thing that works for me is don't drink alcohol, refined sugars, gluten, bread, pasta. I eat mostly meat now and I thought I could still drink alcohol but that's a no-no. Nobody can tell you what you're supposed to eat, what works for one person might not work for you. YOU and only YOU need to do the work and eat healthy and pay attention to what works for you and fine tune your diet accordingly.

So many of us are suffering from some form of IBS or another. Mine is relatively mild compared to many out there, but years of struggling to find what causes my bloating. Almonds (with the skin), corn, and bread have been proven, though a little sour dough is tolerated. Just been diagnosed with a diverticula, no symptoms. I would think that psyllium husk, (pure fibre) with bentonite, which I use occasionally during water fasts, might benefit us on a limited, more regular basis. Moving to a more carnivore, low carb diet has improved my symptoms, by the way.

I just had my first episode a little over a week ago the emergency room doctor after doing the CT scan with contrast walked in and said have you been eating a lot of nuts or seeds which I have been eating a lot of peanuts & pumpkin seeds. I also had up taking Advil one a day for the past few days for some joint pain which he also said do not do so far. Those are my triggers. I don’t believe nuts don’t cause flareups. They sure did for me!

It was my first episode and now I’m trying to navigate the dietary guidelines to manage this issue and prevent a recurrence. Your video was very comprehensive and informative. I’ve already given up alcohol and have been advised to reduce my consumption of deli meats and increase my consumption of whole grains. The nuts, seeds and popcorn are allowed. Good information especially work out your food intolerances. I have had diverticuli for many years and several bouts of diverticulitis. Reducing plant foods, particularly leaves and flowers eg broccoli, cauliflower, other brassicas, spinach etc as well as many fruits and all grains reduced my inflammation. I can immediately tell now when my gut is inflamed…discomfort, pain, stool changes etc. Small amount of gluten free oats the other day caused a 3 day upset 😮

I have food allergies all my life. I never had a test to see exactly what all I cannot ingest though. I smoke, like a wild fire. I was able to understand that my negative emotional reaction to experiences often activated an "Diver-attack". I never use hard pain reliever, narcotics or opiodes. I feel it was the unknown food allergies, teamed up with high stress factors, and a low emotional IQ kept the suffering on-going. I do have a doctor, that I do not fully trust, which led me to investigate for myself. Bran flakes almost kills me! I stopped all fried foods, dairy consumption, began to take Apple Cider Vinegar tablets. The attacks are fewer and farer between. I also increased my emotional IQ by unburdening myself with outdated thought patterns.

I phoned my GP after 111 told me too, for the horrible pain. He got me an appointment immediately with NRA Dept. in my local hospital, seen in half an hour, X-rayed and put on an antibiotic drip for half an hour. Didn't need to go to ER. (I am over 80 though)!
I got two nights in hospital, ten days of two strong antibiotics which cleared the pain and my GP prescribed me several packs of Fybogel fibre sachets to take after. Ask your doctor first though. You mix a sachet with a drink of water and best after meals. No attack since (touch wood I don't get another)! Read the instructions.

My mother is doing much better drinking marshmallow and wild yam root herbal tea to reduce inflammation. For constipation try, slippery Elm or castor oil. Drinking tons of water to soften the stool helps. She's also getting relief from eating watermelon, honey dew melons, and smoothies. My mother seems to feel better when she eating plant base. The stomach doesn't work as hard digesting fruits and vegetables compared to meat. If you're constipated, meat is way more toxic sitting in your digestive tract than fruits or vegetables. If you get your nutrition from fruits and vegetables it's way easier to create bowel movement when you flush your system with water or green juices. To reduce the chances to infecting the DV it's important to have bowel movements daily. Avoid black tea and caffeine. The two best herbal teas for diverticulitis are: marshmallow and wild yam root. Exercise will also help create bowel movements. I bought, smoothies for diverticulitis on Amazon for my mother. Don't stop drinking water. You could add lemon to it, or add flavor to it with watermelon. I hope this helps.

There is a very good information on the internet about the right diet for diverticulitis. Ask your GP to print it out for you . Or see the dietician.

I would love a deeper dive into fiber. I had diverticulitis in 2017. Worst pain of my life except for a migraine I had a few years earlier where I actually thought death would be better 😢 And I've given birth which hurt so much. Any way, I have been eating mostly whole food plant based since 2017 and haven't had a diverticulitis attack since. But I also quit smoking in 2020. Maybe it's both. I'm not Inuit heritage and also had high cholesterol in 2017. I didn't remember how high but I was prescribed statins I never took because I thought I could control with diet. I've also been told by every doctor I've been to since that I need to avoid nuts and seeds which I ignored because I knew the new research showed no connection with diverticulitis. My total cholesterol is way low.. 150. I would love an in depth dive into fiber and who is benefitted and who is not

I have been eating a very uninflamitory diet for over 3 years. I eat meat eggs some non starchy veggies. I can now eat nuts and seeds without any problem. I think my system has finally healed enough to not get pain from eating what they say you can't. I don't over eat any of the foods that used to make me have a flairup.

He specifically said there is no single solution. And not enough research yet so you do need to be mindful of what you're eating and if you have similar symptoms after digesting those ingredients.
I suspected nuts for myself, for example. I stopped eating them for a while. But I love cashews. So now I try chewing them to a pulp before I swallow and it seems to be less problematic for me.

My husband did only liquids the first week after being diagnosed with a small perforation. The PA we saw in the ER said protein drinks were also ok, but no milk the first week. We’re now on week 5 of bland, low fiber foods.
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs cooked with a few drops of vegetable oil and salt, boiled and peeled white potatoes browned in the air fryer, dry white toast, and 2~now 1-percent milk
Lunch: 2 or 3 protein drinks, 2 slices of bread, a banana, and water
Dinner: Soup/either chicken or beef, peeled carrots, either pasta or peeled potatoes, slice of white toast, and a glass of milk
Breakfast and lunch have been pretty much the same. To vary dinners a bit, I’ve added mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and chicken

I couldn't get the port in my arm for the IV antibiotics this time got infected, got another one put in and it bled so they had to take that out ,which last year I came home with antibiotics by IV and I'm very very very tired and very very emotional from this and does anybody else suffer that? Since they know the correlation between the gut and the brain, I'm afraid this is really depressing!! The pain and lethargic feeling I will get surgery probably in a month or so have to follow up with my surgeon since I had so many attacks where I could risk a preforation.

Our food is sprayed with round up, we are changing seeds (GMO) which may not be compatible with our bodies and don't get me started on how food is processed. We cant even drink the water that comes into our homes, everyone is buying bottled water. I am afraid we are living in a toxic soup, its no wonder everyone I know is suffering from a digestive issue which most doctors are unequipped to help. If you don't really know the root cause (poison) how can anyone help????? It's the elephant in the room.

Seeds and nuts, meh, I doubt they are an issue. Fiber is the one I tend to think is BS, how could more fiber help when fiber could more likely be the problem? Lets be honest if you have Diverticulitis you probably abused your body most of your life. People always wonder why they ended up with an ailment. I know exactly why I have the ailments I have, because I ATE LIKE CRAP and drank alcohol most of my life, now I'm playing catch-up trying to repair the damage.
