I was just diagnosed with a major Diverticulitis attack 3 weeks ago and was 5 days of pain i never want to go thru again, This is definitely a life changing moment. the antibiotics i was put on made me sick as a dog but got thru it and infection was cleared up, It was also found i have a fistula on the ct scan that must be corrected by surgery. I have to wait 6 weeks just to see the surgeon so don't know how long the wait for surgery will take. I feel like a fist is in my lower colon. If your over 50 start changing your diet don't eat like your a 20 yr old anymore. I have found out the hard way we can't take our bodies for granted. Thank you for your video there is so much misleading videos and info on the net.
Colin Kerry, that's exactly what happened to me, I just got out of the hospital after 5 days of hell. Now its a waiting game to let my intestines calm down and the swelling to go down before I see the gastro doc. I got a colonoscopy after his visit to see how much damage was done with the infection in about 3 months. At 6 months, I then have to decide if I need the infected intestine section cut out and that part scares the heck out of me. I'm a professional bbq competitor but no more. I'm going to really limit my red meat and pork, no more corn (too many gmo's). I eat soups, soft to medium fiber foods but heavy fiber dieting is not in my future. Good Luck
@@kennycybertron1 hey kennyceberton1, just got out of the hospital 5 days ago after a major diverticulitis attack. you are correct - it was hell, but i only had this terrible pain for a day and a half and went to an emergency room. didn't eat or drink for 5 days and got better. was discharged with antibiotics and trying to be very cautious about what i eat. have a follow up appointment with GI in a couple of weeks - will see what they say. good luck and get well.
@@STEFANO34567 Hello Stefan, no I did not need the surgery after all. My doctors credit my diet of fish, baked chicken and soft veggies (mash potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots) and jello for my snacks..for my rapid recovery. I only drank water or unsweet tea. My colonoscopy showed minimal inflammation and no lasting damage from the infection. It took a month for the cramping to stop but now I am doing 100% better. I still will not eat red meat or pork, anything fried again because I believe that got me in such bad shape before. Just remember to think about everything you eat and if you have a flare-up, you'll know what food item did it. Good luck
Interesting discussion. Refreshing when compared to poorly trained health food salespeople who seem primarily concerned with selling their numerous bottles of stuff.
hmmm I am 33 and I was just diagnosed with Diverticulitis so I wish doctors would start telling this. I am not in my 50s. This is why so many younger people don't try to get treated or doctors tell them they are ok when they are not.
I’m here because my grandma in law has this and I been trying to get more information on treatment. It’s been so sad to see her suffer. This has been a wake up call to eat more fiber.
Always go to the ER don’t wait. I waited to see my Gastro n I got a ct scan n show the problem but the first antibiotic didn’t work n after two week I got prescribed two different antibiotics for n worked much better but ER will treat your symptoms faster after a ct scan
I've had it for years, crippling pain. No doctor has done anything to help me. I asked Doctor what should my diet be? He had no clue on foods that might be bad or good for me.
The same story - more fiber is always the answer but too much fiber is constipating which causes the diverticulosis - catch 22 - Colonoscopy is also a money maker and causes problems.
There’s two kinds of fibre. Soluble fibre is bulk forming (thick stuff that looks like a smoothie when you add water or not - bananas, oats, avocado etc) There’s also insoluble fibre - that’s the atuff that comes out looking essentially the same as when it goes in ie/ corn, lettuce. You need both kinds of fibre, increase the soluble fibre if your bowels are too loose and increase the insoluble fibre if you’re too constipated.
Got nothing but meds that do nothing, fiber is all the recommendation I get. Personally drink 5 min before all your meals. Don't mix as stools are too wet it'll cause more diarrhea bloating.
Well I’m sure I’m with 20% I get 5 diverticulitis flareup every year , not fun at all and you can’t control your healthy food or fiber every single day ??!!! This could be from stress and not getting enough sleep 😢I’m about to do the surgery soon😢
recently had treatment of g I bleed ,my h g level as low as 40.Before op I showed Dr stomach pouch which he diagnosed as diverticulosis pouch being only viewable whilst in half sit up position. my diet now is mainly cashew nuts dried fruit raisins etc as high in fibre. Are legumes ok.
Unfortunately yes. And I tried loperimide and it gave me horrendous cramps and diareoa 30 times a day. My diet is tea and toast. I always ate veg ,cooked every meal from scratch. I ate very little red meat. Everything sticks in me and it made me vomit. Food has become my enemy so I don't eat. I'm not taking those disgusting Fortisips as the weight is dropping off and I'm malnourished and electrolytes deranged. I also have many other serious health issues. I find this is the worst at present. Thank you for this information.

My mother has had pain for 4 weeks now. Are there any meds that can help her. I hate seeing this beautiful woman suffer. She’s had 3 days of antibiotics but stopped since it made her very sick and vomit. Now 3 weeks later the pain is still there every other day. Do we need to restart the antibiotics?
I recommend go to the ER since they can do different types of test n treat it right away. It’s very important to treat the problem bcz people die from it if not treated on time. Have or find the best gastro in your area, but in emergencies like that don’t wait go right away to the ER please
Should you have a colon test when you know you swollen from diverticulitis or should you wait till your stomach feel better like you still is swollen inside should I wait till my stomach feel a little stronger before I get this : test I believe when you feeling bad you should wait before you get this test done I'm in too much pain right now and my stomach is very sore
I'm relatively young and recently diagnosed. The discussions here are so validating. Thanks WFWA and Parkview Health for the reupload.
This doctor seems to be knowledgeable and thorough in his explanations.

More water or fluids then!
I agree. I do the Fitt test every year instead of colonoscopy. Mich easier and not invasive.
