    To view objects both on and off artboard just drag it above the artboard layer. You can also drag object completely off of the artboard and it will reappear in areas outside artboard (non-printing). As soon as you drag a shape onto any artboard it becomes associated with that artboard and become clipped for printing again.

      Hi @seanlizama4152 , thanks for the info. True, you can bring things off the artboard to show in the margin. It just seems a little more cumbersome when using an artboard than the way it works when there is no artboard.

      They should just make clip to canvas an option available for both artboards and non-artboatd documents.

    Thanks Trent for reviewing and showing some great uses for the new Affinity 2.5 Beta features. I'm excited to start learning more about and using variable fonts. I think this could be one of the features that some may have been waiting for to decide to possible make the switch to Affinity.

    You drove me crazy with the stroke / appearance location in the studio, then I saw it was Design not Photo! I also discovered that you can combine stroke and Fx for a double stroke option.

    Aha! Vector tracing and QR Code Generator were the only reasons I would still open up Inkscape these days. (At least for any professional work. I still like Inkscape just for tinkering about.) So having QR generator in Affinity pleases me no end especially since I hope to customise it by subtly clipping graphics inside the code. 😊
    Okay, carry on (as in I continue watching 😁).

    Flexi (Flexisign) has the same problem with variable fonts. It's a mess.

    Ah, I missed the live stream.
    Thanks for the heads-up in advance. As someone who isn't a beta tester, I'm eagerly anticipating version 2.5, particularly the line width tool. I'm also intrigued by the QR shape feature. I remember playing around with it years ago; you could create 'hidden' messages like 'Thank you, great job' or even encode very long texts. Though, I'm unsure if a standard reading device can decode those...

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @sechmettara, I agree, QR codes have lots of cool use cases. As far as I know, their primary job is just to embed information, and then the reading device can decide what to do with them.
      One cool feature of QR codes is how much redundancy and data-correction is built into them. So even if the code gets torn or distorted, many devices can still read it. This is one way people make cool looking QR codes. Perhaps I'll show some ways to do this on the next stream.

    • @sechmettara
      @sechmettara 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TechnicallyTrent It would be great if you could show some examples! What impressed me back then, when I was playing around with the QR-Generator, was this elaborate labyrinth that came out when you encoded longer texts.

    When using the RGB color profile for printed objects, you DO NOT see a difference between your screen image and actual printed product color?

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @Bob-The-Guy , yes, there will always be a different between screen and printed. But for me, it still works well. One thing you can do is order samples of a product (ex: print on demand product) to see if it prints well. You don't need to order a sample for every single design, but maybe 1 sample per product. Some people will also make a sample that has simply prints a color palette on the product so they can see how all the colors look.

    Do you know if you can add little images to the QR codes generated? I did one online (can't remember where) that I was able to add my logo in the centre.

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi @GillBrooks,
      You can manually add your logo to the center. You should know that this process takes advantage of the QR code's built-in error correction. Your logo will block part of the QR code, but because the QR code has redundancy in it, it can usually still work. But you need to keep your logo small. I'll cover this on the next stream.

    Question: Do the new features in affinity 2.5 work with the iPad version? Can’t get variable fonts to work in Photo, Designer, and Publisher. Thanks

    • @TechnicallyTrent
      @TechnicallyTrent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @Bill1844!
      According to the Affinity release notes, variable fonts are supported on iPad:
      affinity.serif.com/en-us/whats-new/
      But I have not tried it on iPad yet. In which way are they not working? Do you see the variable fonts option? Keep in mind that a font has to be specifically designed as a variable font. The feature won't work with just any font.
      You can find variable fonts here: fonts.google.com/variablefonts
