      It's almost a requirement in the new f150s. In my 2019 there is a sway bar directly behind the drain plug. When you pull the screw the oil hits the bar at high velocity and sprays absolutely everywhere. Worst design I've ever seen. The little drain gadget fixes the problem.

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mike, I honestly would just stick with every 5000 miles (I think that's around 8000 kilometers). Ford's percentage is pretty accurate, however I like to stick with 5000 miles since I mostly drive highway and the oils nowadays are so much better than they used to be. It's a good number to stick with either way. Again, I think that's around 8000 kilometers.

    You failed to mention to check to make sure you’re not double-gasketing that oil filter. Sometimes when you remove the old one, the gasket stays stuck to the engine. If that happens and you place a new filter with gasket on top of it, all of your oil will spill out.

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're right! You should always check to make sure the filters gasket wasn't left behind! Good point! 🫡

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The filter really should be swapped out with every oil change. A clogged filter can cause serious engine wear.
      However, I believe these filters contain about half a quart or slightly less. I hope this helps!

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That happened to me about a year ago. I had to try out different oil filter wrenches to loosen my filter. Definitely a pain, and it doesn't help that there isn't a lot of room down there. The best oil filter wrench you can use in that situation is one that tightens as you turn. That's really the best way to get it off.

    • @narfoxone9er971
      @narfoxone9er971 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I run into tough oil filters what I do is punch a longer screwdriver through one side and tap it until it hits the other side of the filter without going through it again... that gives you good leverage to unscrew it..
      I think any of them rubber oil filter loosening tools are absolute pieces of fecal matter. Another option is to curse smash your fingers and head kit grease in your eyes in your mouth from Awkward angles and then get out from underneath the truck and punch the neighbors dog in the face and Light the mailman's truck on fire sometimes that works too

      Hello Chris! So I probably should have included this in the video, but one thing I do after replacing the filter is grab a rag and wipe all around the oil filter housing. Sometimes I will even grab a wrench, wrap the rag around it and force the wrench under the filter to make sure I get it all. Sometimes it will still drip for another few minutes after doing this, but eventually it will stop.
      It's a pretty bad design by Ford honestly. I've been looking into oil filter relocation kits to see if I can make it easier on everyone with an F150 with the 5.0.

      @TrickShiftGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another thing you can try: after putting the new filter on, spray the area around the filter with brake clean. This will help the oil clean out faster too.
      I hope this helps Chris!

    7.7 Quarts in a V6????? that's alot of oil dude! sure that is right? damn !I just bought a 2014 F 150 3.7 liter and I am tryin to learn all of this new shit! I have been driving a crown Vic Interceptor for 10 yrs plus and 5 Qrts is about as much as a 4.6 liter ford can hold this is freakin me out a lil bit...LOL but you seem to have yer shit together! so Im trusting u my brother!...im new to the F150 world! especially 2014 yr model!I am getting a really hard shift from first to second gear... have you ever seen a situation like this in your truck??

      This is a 5.0 V8. And I hear ya. My OBS F150 takes 5 quarts, but these newer V8's have a deeper oil pan. A lot of manufacturers are doing that so they can tell the customer to go more than 5k miles per oil change. I'd rather stick with 5k on the newer truck and 3k on my old truck.

      7.7 quarts its nothing. The more the better to avoid oil starvation in high Gs corners with grippy tires. My car calls for 7.1 quarts, I put 9 in there every single time.

      Overfilling is not good for your bottom end either. You're lucky nothing has broke yet.

      @@TrickShiftGarage Nothing will ever happen. I blew up 3 engines at the track until a buddy of mine suggested running 2 more quarts of oil in the engine. The alternative is buying a $2000ish better baffled deeper oil pan but I'm on a budget. the engines are $400 a piece. We eventually installed oil pressure gauge and the pressure would drop significantly in the corners for a brief moment. Each tight corner would eat away at the bearings until eventually they would just spin and sieze the crankshaft. We've also installed a beefy oil cooler sourced from an E9X M3 so its not like the extra 2 quarts are sitting on the pan but for quite a while we were just running it with the oem "heat-exchanger" type cooler with the 2 quarts on top.

      Maybe it worked in your application with your vehicle, but to claim it will be fine with every vehicle is disingenuous. There is a reason these car manufacturers recommend a certain amount.

      Tried again and it goes to#917-415 which says it does not fit. It looks like the
      same one. Guess I'll order and return if not. Thanks!

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, before you order let me do some research first just to make sure. I'm assuming you also have the 5.0, right?

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OK it looks like that part number does in fact fit the 5.0. I wanted to make sure that was the one I ordered and Amazon didn't discontinue it. I check an F150 forum and have confirmed it will work. So I'm assuming that really is the same one I bought.

    That motor calls for 7.7 qts. Sure you can measure out 7.7 but the full 8 quarts won’t hurt it in the slightest. It’s literally .3 quarts more than what the manufacturer calls for.

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It doesn't hurt to measure it out either. 🤷‍♂️ I would stick with the recommendation from the manufacturer. It's always better to take some extra time to get something right, than to cut corners.

    Couple of things you did wrong!
    First before you installed your oil drain adapter, you wiped the oil drain hole, then the bottom of the pan and then the hole again! You're wiping all that road crap onto the hole!
    Second, why did you use old, dirty oil to lubricate your new oil filter gasket?!?!?! Use the NEW , CLEAN OIL!!!!

    That's the worst thing you could have done, instead of the oil instantly running out and bringing all of the contaminants with it, it will not take forever to empty and leave junk in the pan. These gimmicky devices have been around for years and all they do is to cause more issues. You want to quickly evacuate all of the contaminated oil.

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's the worst thing I could have done? I'm pretty sure there are far worse things.
      And as long as you change your oil when you are supposed to, there won't be a lot of contaminants.
      And just because the oil is moving slower, does not mean it's leaving behind contaminants. That's an assumption based on zero evidence.
      Last thing: it's been about 50,000 miles and I have had zero issues. Engine runs perfect, truck feels great. If you have concerns, then don't buy one. I'm not asking you to buy one. I decided to try out a new (to me) product and it's been perfectly fine. 👌

  • @SplashyCannonBall
    @SplashyCannonBall 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another tip is never change your oil brand. Synthetics all corrode in different ways. Use the same brand for the life of an engine if possible . Or… do what you want to I’m sure you know everything anyways.

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope, I actually know very little about everything lol. I'm just like everyone else, trying to learn as much as possible. And that is a good tip. I usually stick with Mobile 1. I think most people stick with a brand if it continues to work for them. And Mobile 1 has been very good to my vehicles.
