Shin Godzilla is on another level of horrifying, and we love him for it.
If you ever want to be more in tune with the Godzilla lore then wikizilla will be perfect since they literally cover a bunch of different characters from the Godzilla lore in the form of kaiju profiles.

Allow me to explain:
- The first 2 Godzillas you saw, were filmed in the 1950's where the filming pictures are black and white. That's why their atomic breaths were white.
- The Hanna-Barbera Godzilla was America's first animated adaption of Godzilla for younger children viewers whereas in the series, their iteration of Godzilla was more cartoonish
- Godzilla did once have offspring in most iterations. The first was in Son of Godzilla featuring Minilla. It may not look like it but that's what the crew had to make back in the 90's. In the Heisei Era, the prince of the monster gets a major design change with Little Godzilla getting an updated look, and Godzilla Junior is Little Godzilla as a teenager.
- Burning Godzilla is when the G-Man has too much radiation in his body that he is going through a meltdown
- Godzilla 1998, branded as Zilla or Tristar Godzilla, was the first American live-action adaption of the monster. The original Japanese Godzilla was meant to be an ancient prehistoric creature awakened or mutated by atomic radiation, which gives him his powers, atomic breath, sheer size, intelligence, and invulnerability to conventional weapons like tanks, missiles, or nukes. However, the 1998's Godzilla started as a mutated marine iguana caused by French nuclear testing. Tristar intends to make their Godzilla more dinosaur-like and give it a more animalistic behavior, which is a major difference from previous Godzillas. Instead of tanking hits from conventional weapons like the OG, Zilla doesn't of the invulnerability to conventional weapons, meaning a few missile strikes and he is dead. Also, it doesn't have an atomic breath. It is more of a Power Breath where it lets out a powerful, combustible breath when ignited with fire whenever it roars. The movie itself received many mixed critiques and some negative reviews, but many Godzilla fans of grown to appreciate the iteration.
- After the 1998 movie, it is then followed by an animated series, which showcases the offspring of Zilla who, unlike its parent, has an atomic power breath and minor invulnerability to conventional weapons, following more to the OG Godzilla. Also, Cyber Godzilla is a cyborg made an antagonist using the corpse of the 1998 Godzilla. In a sense, it is not technically a Mechagodzilla for Mechagodzilla is fully robotic and Cyber Godzilla is a cyborg, half organic half machine.
- The Godzilla in GMK is the embodiment of the tormented souls of victims from WWII that manifested into Godzilla. This means that Godzilla is more of a ghost, that's why it doesn't have pupils and he is malevolent, pure evil.
- 12:15 That is Monster X, the final antagonist of the Final Wars movie
- The 2014 Godzilla is the second US adaption and is the most definitive and latest Godzilla entry which he based more on the Japanese design with updated changes and a more deeper lore. This iteration of Godzilla is among ancient creatures called Titans that once lived on Earth and his species is said to be the alpha of all the Titans, furthering his title as King of Monsters. This iteration is a fan favorite for many reasons: It is dubbed as Legendary Godzilla, due to being created by Legendary studios, this Godzilla is part of Legendary Entertainment kaiju series called the Monsterverse, and in every movie where he is featured, he evolves more powerful than last time.
- Shin Godzilla is Toho's latest Japanese Godzilla iteration after a long hiatus, where this Godzilla started as a mutated organism constantly evolving to better adapt to his environment, eventually becoming the monstrosity you've witnessed and in the movie, he is dubbed as God Incarnate or God of Destruction due to his destructive abilities.
- In the Anime Trilogy, this Godzilla is actually an evolved, sentient plant organism rather than an animal. Hence why it is called Godzilla Earth for he literally was born from the Earth itself. The reason why this iteration is a plant is because the producer is inspired to make the kaiju an even more unstoppable, immortal force of nature than the previous incarnations. So they were inspired to make Godzilla based on large old trees in rainforests and jungles due to photosynthesis. They wanted to make Godzilla an imposing threat and force of nature that humanity couldn't stand a chance against and even after 1000 years, he is still standing and is now invincible because he is constantly growing and becoming stronger. Like a small plant growing into a tall strong tree. Fun fact, Godzilla Earth is currently the largest Godzilla iteration, dwarfing Shin Godzilla.
- Snow Godzilla is actually a mirage/hallucination created by the antagonist of the anime movie
Well, Shin Godzilla isn't the latest Toho Godzilla anymore, it's Godzilla Minus One.
Slight correction regarding Godzilla Earth, he's evolved from plant life, but through horizontal gene transfer he does have animal DNA. (Which he shares with Biollante, Gorosaurus, Zilla, and potentially Orga.)
Also 20,000 years, not 1000.

A couple explanations
Minilla: Godzilla's adopted son, he was broken out of his egg prematurely by another kaiju which is why he looks unfinished.
Burning Godzilla: at the end of Godzilla's second era it was decided that he was going to die, he looks like that because his heart is going through a nuclear meltdown.
Godzilla 1998: the first American Godzilla, she was made to be more realistic and along with a new origin she was given the ability to asexually reproduce (lays eggs without needing a mate). The fanbase hated her for about two decades and she was officially rebranded as Zilla.
Zilla jr: the surviving egg from Godzilla 1998, was made far tougher than the parent, and given a green atomic breath. Not hated by the fanbase.
Cyber Zilla: the corpse of Godzilla 1998 turned into a cyborg by aliens.
GMK: That Godzilla might as well be a demon, he's the corpse of the original Godzilla possessed by the vengeful spirits of those who died in WWII.
Godzilla final wars: the monster you see him tail whipping is Monster X, which is the first form of Godzilla's strongest enemy as of that film.
Shin Godzilla: Hideaki Anno's (creator of evangelion) reimagining of Godzilla. Atomic breath is purple as a tribute to Prince.
Godzilla anime trilogy: the small one is the biological son of the the larger Godzilla Earth. Godzilla Earth drove humanity off of the planet and altered the environment to his liking for the next 20,000 years. The two attacks you saw weren't his atomic breath, the first was his roar (super oscillatory wave), and plasma cutter.
The Hydra is called King Ghidorah, he's an alien dragon who goes from planet to planet wiping out civilizations to amuse himself. He's one of Godzilla's greatest enemies.
Wait, Prince is why Shin Godzilla's atomic breath beams are purple? Interesting.

It's a shame that Gemstone Godzilla wasn't around when this list was created. I highly recommend watching the short films that he's from. They're called Godzilla vs Gigan Rex and Godzilla vs Megalon (they're both on youtube)
Filmcore *might* do a part 3 in a year or so to include Gemstone, Minus 1, Evolved, etc. (And hopefully give Hanna Barbera Goji his lazer eyes.)

Instead of being a giant mutated radioactive lizard, he's a human with a mutation / superpower that turns him into a giant lizard. Since the series is produced by Toho, I think he's more likely to be added to an updated list as opposed to most other parodies. But like I said, he doesn't have an atomic breath that we've seen yet, so it probably wouldn't work.

Over the years zilla jr has gained so much love and its nice to see fans love him so much now and me too zilla jr/zilla being my favourite.
The design, the roars and how it acts naturally like an actual animal hunting its prey.
Fun fact: Gmk godzillas atomic breath was the first breath to cause a mushroom cloud the second one being minus one. It shows how strong their breaths are.
Zilla Jr. was actually pretty well liked even at the time (the animated series making the character actually pretty cool). It was Zilla himself that most fans had a problem with. I could explain why, but it would be a long post.
GMK, also mostly known as Ghost Godzilla might actually be the most evil of all the Godzilla's (unless you count Space Godzilla, which most don't).
The Hanna-Barbara Godzilla was a cartoon(made by the same people who did the original Scooby Doo series), not live action like the majority of the rest of them 😅😅

Cracks me up that Japan hated the American Godzilla so much, that they only call it "Zilla", and made an entire movie about different Godzilla fighting each other, specifically to have a scene where Zilla gets it's ass whooped, and the main character comments in never liking that one in the first place 😂

Here’s a video that adds a bit more context to most of what’s shown here: The Evolution of Godzilla Animated. It goes over each movie version of Big G from the OG to King of the Monsters and covers the differences between each version, with a brief summary of what happens in each movie. It’s a very interesting and funny video, and extremely detailed, so it’s quite newcomer friendly but not overly long. It is limited to his cinematic appearances so there isn’t anything about the cartoons or anime or comics, plus this video came out prior to Godzilla vs Kong. But it’s a cool watch nonetheless!

I will let you in on one thing, though. The huge green one was Hanna-Barbera’s doing, and the changes were because they couldn’t get everything associated with the rights from Toho and they had to tone him down to kid friendly levels. That’s also why Godzooky is Godzilla’s nephew instead of his adopted son the way Minilla and Junior are.

the way godzilla works is he feeds off of radioactivity, however if he ever takes in more than he can handle, his body builds energy to a critical mass, then kaboom, thats why burning godzilla looks like that, hes overloaded with radioactive energy, and is about to release it

Well even then, the O2 destroyer didn’t actually KILL Godzilla in KotM, just severely injured him. Had Serizawa not given him basically an adrenaline shot with the nuke, he still would have recovered naturally, just would’ve taken a lot longer.

The baddies showing up at the end are ones the various Godzillas have faced. King Ghidorah, Final Wars Gigan, One of the various Mechagodzillas, and some others. These guys are why Godzilla needs atomic breath. Definitely watch King of Monsters and Godzilla Vs Kong. Good movies that help explain the current Godzilla.

So for a quick lesson on godzilla from the japanes movie studio toho who made the franchise godzilla was and is a metaphor for the fear of nuclear wapons and war and its aftermath. Mainly what the Japanese felt after Hiroshima and Nagasaki got destroyed by fat man and little boy. Basically he's a walking nuclear reactor combined with a natural disaster. Honestly Shin Godzilla starts off doppy looking, like a giant fish monster, but once he mutates into Godzilla and uses his Atomic Breath, it's unreal.
Like the way the music hits, it feels like the end of the world. He spews out that black gas that flows all over the city, then starts spewing flames and the whole city is ignited, but then it's like he's been charging that entire time, as the beam finally starts and it's like Holy Shit, this thing is already OP, and it's only just getting started.
Shin Godzilla, more than any other, feels like you're watching the end of the world......buuuht it starts off so bad. Like I hadn't smoked anything, and watching the first part of Shin Godzilla had me asking if I was high right there. Then I had to make sure we didn't put in the wrong movie.
It starts off looking like a boring ass politics movie, as all these Japanese politicians spend what feels like hours, having boardroom meetings about potentially mobilising the military, whole Fishy faced GodIlla is rampaging. Then they finally agree to the decision... To move the meeting to a different room, and carry on discussing what they should do. Isn't till godzilla really fucks shit up, that someone finally steps up and tells them all to stfu and get out of their own way.
I highly suggest that you watch some of the older godzilla films you will not be let down

Ill just suggest to watch the films. The 1st was Godzilla (1954) or Gojira. As they progress throughout the the years they can get pretty campy but the more recent stuff takes a more serious tone. I love em all though
