      @@mikep3502 Mike for a guy like me to quit a job, it's got to be bad. I thought I could handle just about anything. It was affecting my physical and mental health. I lost over 30 lbs in just over 2 mos. The disrespect, bullying, etc. was just overwhelming. I was new and asked a question while in training. My trainer told me to "Shut up! You just want to be babied!" He also taught me the wrong pat-down procedures. He was a highly abusive and highly critical individual who offered me no encouragement whatsoever. When I was sent to the supervisors office for no reason, I overheard an older officer begging not to be fired. She quit soon after. One officer, who worked there for 15 years, committed suicide after being fired. I once had a private investigator call me to meet at an undisclosed location to discuss a misdemeanor offense I committed over 30 years ago (I drank a beer on a private street and was cited $20 when I was senior in high school). Ive never been around such toxicity in my life. Going to work was like walking down a long corridor to my execution. I grew up working at that airport and had provided high-quality service for years before getting involved. Since leaving TSA, I havent had a bad day at work, make more $, and am treated with the proper respect by my supervisors.

    I couldn’t agree more with this video and on top of that there is no job security with TSA as TSO officers aren’t covered by the Merit Protection Board Agency that covers other government employees but don’t cover TSOs it only covers the managers which means that TSA can fire any officers for any small petty reason without the protection from the US Merit Systems Protection Board.

    I am not miserable working at TSA, I love it and have been for many years in Phoenix AZ. The problem is leadership, and management, retaliation, and reprimanding front-line officers' all the while covering up and not holding leadership accountable for their own misgivings!!! I have contacted the national leadership only to be told they do investigate complaints, and then make it the responsibility of the local leadership chain to take actions. The big picture here is when a complaint is made against the local leadership, managers and directors and some supervisors'; it is the very same ones the complaints were alleged against that have to authority to reprimand themselves, which they won't and never do. I have countless examples in the many complaints that I have raised and in none of the complaints has there ever been any fault found NEVER! I have reached out to the Administrator and Assistant Administrators only to eventually be ignored! So I am looking for a medium to expose TSA's behavior toward officers' and against the ones that actually speak up and expose leaderships treatment of TSO's!

    • @HassleCat
      @HassleCat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're right. The job itself is OK. Training is inadequate to keep pace with an evolving situation. Supervisors are very poorly trained, and believe leadership means writing up employees for infractions. National leadership is sad. Front line workers get little help from anyone supervisor or above. Five years at Dulles & agree with you 100 percent.

      I work for TSA too. Grandfathered a four hour shift with Saturday and Sunday RDO's. Great benefits, short tour, 6 month bids, up to 4(3 weeks+5days) weeks paid vacation. Plus the four hours fly by really fast. Giving me the time and freedom to do things i love for income.
      Regarding the supervisors and management. Recently the people above the FSD in DC started listening to complaints. Multiple managers have been forced to resign for corruption that was so petty that it makes no sense why they did what they did. Supervisors too. It's not the TSO's walking on egg shells, it's everyone now.
      Having said all this, i care for my coworkers and the passengers. The rare possibility of something horrible happening due to human error doesn't go away for me. I used to check the news when i arrived home. It was like OCD.

    I've never been so mistreated in my personal life or work life than when I worked at TSA. The problem is not the public, it's the agency itself. Seems to me they dont want people with high levels of social intelligence. Not everyone can delegate authority in a respectful fashion. There are some good people there, but theres some power trippers who have no business working with the public. Also, the government rules, rule changes, poor communication and poor leadership create a toxic
    and depressing environment. One officer at my airport committed suicide after being wrongly fired. I found another job on the way home from quitting TSA making more $ and being treated as a valued and respected employee. I never had a good day at TSA and never had a bad one at my current job.

I've always had a very positive attitude in my many years experience with the traveling public (in a hospitality setting) and was crucified for it while at TSA. One thing they knew they couldnt criticize was my work ethic. I dont want to fit in with toxic people in a toxic work environment. It's their loss. I never regretted leaving and am much better for it. I woke up one morning and asked myself, "Why am I fighting to keep a job I cant stand?" I wrote a very lengthy exit letter to their human resource department stipulating my severe mistreatment. My only regret is that I didnt just walk off the job on my lunch break and not return. That's the type of disrespectful exit they deserved. Just warning u that turnover is high there for a reason and it has nothing to do with the public.

It's being pushed very hard in recent months because of the title 5 coming soon. Upper management will have a more difficult time issuing discipline for medical justifications. TSA security screenings are security theater anyways. Their whole job is pointless. I would be okay with everyone of them quitting all at once, and the entire agency shutting down permanently. We would be just as safe and well protected from terrorist as we currently are.
    On principle I hate that they exist, but on an individual level, I deeply empathize their plight. Also a basic screening like in the 90's (no lines, shoes stay on, bags keep everything in them trays only for belts and pocket items, system as simple and fas as entering a courthouse ... that system) I'd be okay with that still existing ... some security theater is good for the passenger's ease of mind, plus people need jobs, even frivolous ones.
