      Is time such a big factor in getting a better belt? Like if he's clearly beating black belts he is at black belt level.... What does it takes to go from Blu to purple and then black? Is there an exam or something where you scramble vs black belts? Or is time needed? Like no matter how good you are you have to wait let's say x months in order to go up?

    • @qulumammadli247
      @qulumammadli247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@mariofox8377 I am not exactly sure how long should it take to get a let's say purple belt, but definitely time is a huge factor in this jiu jitsu equation. "There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path" as Morpheus says. You may theoretically know how a trangle works, but actually applying it in real world situations and knowing the intricate details of it takes repetition and therefore time. Watch 'Kimura - from white belt to black belt' by Roy Dean and you will understand the difference.

    • @BrianX1333
      @BrianX1333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@mariofox8377 one of my professors said white to blue is building your fundamentals and getting rid of bad habits. Blue to purple I assume is sharpening your skills to be equally as fluid on both sides. Purple to brown you’re fluid on both sides and begin to put your game completely together. Black you have a complete game and can be tested at high levels. That’s my perspective given the advice one of my professors told me about going from white to blue. What do I know tho compared to these guys. It’s also like they say, there’s blue belts and then there’s competition blue belts. I’ve seen competition blue belts maul blue belts that come from say a primarily self defense school. Also every professor has a different criteria. Some will put you through a gauntlet before promoting you, others will promote you based off attendance/success in the room but not competing. Comes around again to the whole there’s blue belts and competition blue belts. Nicky Rod is just a beast, when you blend wrestling and jits together it’s a different animal for sure.

    I love seeing wrestlers adapt to submission competitions where they can showcase their takedowns, such as ADCC. Now imagine a top level D1 wrestler learning some submissions or just sub defense. 💥💥💥 that would be a real treat to watch. Now for a bit of history on ADCC: Most fans don’t realize ADCC rules are different that traditional BJJ rules. With that said ADCC rules were modified/developed to make it more balanced for other grappling styles, like wrestling and sambo, to compete against jiu jitsu competitors. In the older days of ADCC there were grapplers from all over the world that were invited to competed in this event. However due to the submission element, jiu jitsu competitors usually won.

    The physical conditioning to wrestle at a high level is intense. This is something that often seems to be lacking in top-level BJJ guys. The ability to put a pace on someone is massively important, and these guys that aren't making that a part of their game are missing something that Nicky is exposing in match after match.
