I am Hagrid's second person. He was returned to the breeder and I found him on a marketplace ad when he was a year and a half. Hagrid is an amazing dog with a stubborn, food driven personality but he loves car rides and meeting new people. He flops over onto his side when meeting people with the expectation that they will rub his belly. He has slowed down recently but still chases the UPS truck along the fence when he gets the chance. Thanks for seeing him again! I love the videos and appreciate the work you do. He and I don't mind the drive for an amazing groom. This video will be here forever and gives a wonderful example of Hagrid's personality.
He’s a wonderful boy. He’s such a great example of the breed. Hag’s so very lucky you found him. He reminds me of the labs we’ve had. Give him a hug for me please!
Yea. I would love one, I just can't deal with the drool. Only two things I can't do with dogs- curly hair/fur like a poodle (mini poodle was my first dog and the grooming is very expensive. They need to go every 4- 6 weeks) and drool. Lol also some of the giant breeds have much lower lifespans. Bernese mountain dogs live about 6- 8 years usually. So short
What a beautiful boy, for 8 yo, well behaved. Hagrid looks well for being that age. Sure that his family love him to bits, take care of him extremely well.
He's very invested in these grooms! 🤣 When I saw Vanessa in her suit, beekeeper hat, ear protection, head go-pro rig wielding 2 dryer nozzles I started cracking up, the sight was just too much for me 😂 I appreciate everything she does and want her... uh, well it's probably not comfortable, but not IN discomfort 😅 Still, the image of her like that vs a huge fluffy dog slayed me.
Life is tough right now. Vanessa you are the answer to my prayers for you have helped my healing from my broken hip, my overwhelming sadness and brought pleasure into my life. Thank you, Thank God for you 🙏

I remember when our neighbors up in MT got a Newfie, pure black, and it learned how to open up the fence to go explore, several of their neighbors thought they were seeing a black bear. They had to make sure he was either inside or wearing an orange vest during hunting season. He was so strong, but gentle. Took two of us teens to walk him when my sister would dog-sit. 😂
We had a newf. “Is that a bear??!?!” had to be the most common comment when someone saw her. 🤪 They can be pretty smart too. Not surprised about getting through the gates. Ours knew how to escape the garage. 😖
Oh wow, I absolutely see that happening. I think they're bigger than black bears 😂 Which is just wild. But I'm so glad your family were so quick-witted to keep him safe! Did they think they were a lap dog, much like every Lab, Pibble and Rottie I have EVER met? 😅

They do indeed think they are lab dogs@@Jockdog. Then again so do English mastiffs and bullmastiffs. I think it’s the temperament of the big dogs. Somewhere they think they are pugs.

We have some left today, but it's already melted off a lot of places and there's green grass showing. We get mild winters here a fair amount, even moreso than people just 30min north, but every other winter or so I do need to get my actual boots and cold-weather jacket and there's a ton of snow. This year's mostly not dipping below -10°C (when your boogers start to freeze, it's an easy temp sign) with the wind, and we'll easily have winters at -20 or -30 for a few weeks. Nothing like the -40° for 2 months I experienced in Saskatchewan a few years ago, or like the epic winters Montreal would get when I lived there for 10 years. My ears still perk up at the sound of car tires spinning in snow and someone needing a push out if a snow bank 😂 I'd do 3 or 4 every morning on my walk to work then! Now I do maybe 1 a winter. The mild winters were just one of the reasons I moved to TO with my work, but it was not a SMALL reason, and it's been an awesome benefit. I mean, I was here for the ice storm that coated the wires so thick with ice that streetcars couldn't stay connected to power, and we had that massive power failure for about 5 days when the city was teaching people how to make warmers with candles and clay pots and people were running extension cords outside with signs so folk could charge their phones... we're never really safe from the jaws of winter 😂

His coat is glossy and his de shedding etc helped to improve that quality. Hope he and his owner enjoy their car journey back. Thank you for sharing Handsome Hagrid with us.
"Stay there you little sploot. Stay there." Such a silly but great moment. I am sorely tempted to get a newfie as my next dog but am making sure I am being honest with myself about my capacity to handle that drool. Thank you for all your videos and the reality of care that they show. I've started applying some of your suggestions (and some Fluff-Off) to grooming my cats. The results are great though only my unicorn of a cat is getting blow dried. She'll sit on the counter and patiently let me fix Her Majesty despite her long fur taking 45 minutes to blow out.
At times, Hags has big ol’ drool bibs for when he’s around a bunch of people. Just pick up the bib, swab the face, then back to doing big doggo things.
When i had my newfoundland Nanna we found dog safe wet wipes at the pet store and used those to keep her front clean from all of the drool it was a daily thing but it stopped so much matting
That is a great tip. While I'm ready to provide a dream life for a newfie from 20 acres of fenced property, walks in the Grand Tetons national forest, lake weekends during summer, and work from home so we're always together. My concern is an ill timed head whip slinging drool onto potentially hundreds of dollars of merchandise especially during snow where he has to be indoors most of the time. I had a German Shepherd and he only wanted to stay indoors long enough to check on us but otherwise roam his territory but from I've read, the newfie wants to stay with his people.@@Certari
The look on his face is one of resignation, lol. It has that look of why fight it, it will happen no matter what. Love how Vanessa explains things to help educate pet owners/groomers.
A little of both. His temperament is naturally incredibly chill - and he’s been to school, his dad is always bringing him to socialize with other humans and dogs, and into situations where he’s meeting a lot of new experiences. He adores the car rides and attention he gets when going anywhere with his dad. He also chases his friends Bella and Gronk the Saint Bernards up one way and down the other of the pond at his grandparents’ house, so… he can get up and go on his terms 😅
@@CertariAhhh, that is so great to hear! What a beautiful example of a Newfoundland dog! As a person from Newfoundland, I appreciate when I see a well taken care of dog from my home province. Yay Hagrid is back. He's so beautiful and hug able. So sad about Robbie Coltrane. But his character lives on 🥰 currently re-reading Harry Potter series so this was perfect timing.
I just want to give Hagrid lots of big hugs. Gorgeous boy 🤗🤗🤗💖✝✝
I love Newfoundlands as I grew up with one. He was called Baby Dumpling. I took him to school for show and tell when I was little. Hagrid is a perfect boy. Hugs and kisses to him. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Now this boy, is the goodest of the boys. What a patient boy. So sweet
