Years ago, I had a Samoyed. When I watched TV in the evenings, I would sit on the floor with him and comb (yes, comb) his fur. He loved it, and because I did it several evenings a week, he never had mats. He would lay there and soak up the attention. When I finished one side, I would roll him over for the other side. He was absolutely beautiful and one of the happiest boys I've ever had.
Tried to do the same with my cavalier, but on his blanket on the sofa. Hoped doing a little brushing every day in a chill, cozy setting would make him like it. As soon as the brush comes out he looks like he's about to be beaten, so didn't quite work out 😅
I really feel like Vanessa’s quiet shop and calm-but-in-charge presence must make a huge difference for a lot of these dogs that get turned away by other groomers.
Her whole demeanor as well helps, she's not in a rush (as least doesn't seem so) and is more than willing to go slower at the animal's pace rather than rush them through.
This has always peaked my curiousity. I've never used one so I don't know what it's like, but the groomers near me sounds terrifying from outside. It is just an endless cacophony of barking from numerous dogs. I'm surprised any dog can stay calm and quiet in there.
As a groomer who works in a quiet shop and does only one dog at a time, I 100% agree. I wish busier groomers wouldn't resort to suggestions like "shave or sedate" when a simple "I'm not the groomer for you/a quieter environment would be better for him" would be so much more helpful.
He probably *is* sleepy which is why I prefer mine to lay down so I finish one side at a time for their comfort. For the very old and arthritic ones, they appreciate it and only have to stand for a few minutes right at the end of the session.
Reminded me of my Korean aunt to a point where I almost took a screenshot to show her with a name tag on it… but don’t want the wrong kind of groaning from her even though she would love the dog (so long as she didn’t have to manage the coat lol).
It’s the little tongue bleps for me. That peaceful little face. While you were blowdrying his neck he was just the happiest of boys, his face was just like “aww yeah that’s the spot, riiiight there.”
Lol my Italian greyhound loves to get his butt blow dried after showers. Even when HE hasn't showered, he'll come find anyone he hears using the hair dryer and aim his butt at them😂
As a mobile groomer, I cannot emphasize how wonderful of a pup Loki is. He was a fantastically behaved boy and I am a little shocked other groomers would insist on sedation or shaving. Great job!!!!
I am not expert (social scientist, not dog groomer, just dog lover) but my impression is that some groomers have issues with certain breeds, and they tend to displace their own anxiety onto the animal. Of course the animals sense your anxiety, and things can escalate. Any parent understands this process; it’s similar to how toddlers respond. They are SCARED. It is normal for them to respond aggressively when scared. The groomer must be the adult and try to soothe them. Apparently, many can’t be bothered as it is just a production line to them. 🤷🏼♀️
I assumed the sedation was because of how painful it would be for him. That, or they were just afraid of what a big dog he is. He's a massive, majestic, beautiful beast, but like a big beastly boy can do a lotta damage if they're in pain right?
Yeah that 'growling' was really a kinda grumble groan talk that's like a modified yodel howl that malamutes and huskies do sometimes. The sound emits from higher in the throat with less vibration and you will see the dog is relaxed and the body language is not threatening. It's used for complaining and talking and even throwing a tantrum but is not meant aggressively. At first it can sound similar but she rightly observed the dog's body language and demeanor was friendly the whole time.
I was thinking that his paws were probably sensitive with all that hair & long nails to boot. Imagine having to walk around like that daily? Man, my feet would definitely be tired & sensitive too.
Honestly I don’t even think it’s fair to call those growls, it’s more like grunts and groans. My dog makes those noises when I tease him during playtime. Usually he follows it up with a yawn to signal play, but still. Grumpy baby is all that is❤
@@qwenabellwynfell9778 I wanted to say that. my big dog made those, too. And it was more like communicating discomfort or pain. It's just big dogs voices are already quiet deep. Totally agree with you!
Same here! This channel showed up in my feed not that long ago, and I'm binge watching like crazy. Then I discovered that she also has another channel, so I have an excuse to procrastinate until the end of this year at least. It's oddly satisfying!
You could see that he was really trying to behave and trying not to create such a fuss he was holding himself back the little tappy taps of his paws he was definitely anxious and he just was like "OK I'm gonna trust you I'm gonna trust you" and it worked out wonderfully
Vanessa is an actual angel. I only remember one dog on the channel who actually lived up to their ungroomable reputation, and she solved it by bringing the owner in to help instead of just writing the dog off. Just goes to show what an excellent rapport she has with the dogs she grooms
@@lynnm6413Her motto is "every dog (and cat) gets a chance, regardless of breed" at her salon. Which may be a large reason why we see a lot of LGDs in her shop. Many groomers turn them away.
@@knoten3759 it's the video This Is The Most Aggressive Dog I've Ever Touched 😳. It's on this channel, not the main one. I think the reason was that dog was so aggressive was because he was originally a stray and uh... yeah
I used to have 2 huskies. I am 70 years old now and can’t imagine doing what you do now! The brushing alone was a nightmare and my yard looked like we had been snowed on. Love your videos!
What a well-behaved fluff nugget. He was literally so well behaved, it's amazing how a groomer with the right animal behavior knowledge can get the job done with no problem with fairness to the dog during the whole process. Amazing work as always, love your channel!
They truly don't. My girl has never been shaved nor will she ever be. She's a Cana'ani mix, their coat has protected their skin for at least 3000 years, why would I want to intervene? Evolution did a great job with them!
His little tap dances while you trimmed his beans 🥺 He's mouthy like my husky, but he's just grumblin. Thank you for letting him voice his opinion without immediately muzzeling him!
I totally agree 😊 My husky was such a talker but a sweet natured soul. He could even say "I love you" clear enough that you knew what it was. I miss him.
The noises i heard were the same as my husky makes when he's grumbling about something he dislikes. He's letting you know he doesn't like it, but it's not really like a biting growl. Such a sweet boy!!🐺❤
Absolutely! Huskies simply are very chatty dogs, aren't they? At first I also thought my own Husky was growling, but those are so gentle that he's basically just "talking" to you. Believe me, you would have known with absolutely no doubt if he was snapping it you! If he was giving you a real warning you would have jumped 5 feet away from the fright it gives you!
A dog that big and that well-behaved has, no doubt, been well trained not to jump up on people. When he got the "Up!" command, he thought about it for a second and got up on the scale. Brilliant! Loki is the calmest and most cooperative Malamutes I've ever seen
I have found large dogs to be much sweeter than the smaller ones.. sweetest dog I ever had was a pitboxer. My German shepherd was the smartest and most gentle. The Yorkie I had to give up. The Maltese was smart and sweet. We now have a small one. She is a definite diva and attacks the larger one of he so much as tilts his head when he looks in her direction.
Ugh... my ex taught his (now my) puppy to jump up. Gio was a 35-pound puppy. He's now 70 pounds, and being jumped on is not cute. My ex started doing it with my rescue husky mix puppy and I tore him a new one. I also made him stop encouraging the screeching yips she does. Because all this stuff is cute when they're little but not so cute when they're big.
Such a gentle dog. And as someone else said, also in my opinion your calmness and presence are what makes these creatures comfortable. I love your videos.
His fur color and his eyes are so pretty and he definetely looks like a kind and patient dog ! So glad he didn't have to be sedate or shaved. Great work sparing him that !
@@dollsunitedcovenofkingssec6558 if it's a frequent thing, I'm pretty sure it can become dangerous to their health, if you sedate them. She actually explained it in one of her videos.
@dollsunitedcovenofkingssec6558 , apparently you didn't watch the entirety of the video. She gave the a much needed 15 minute break. Sedation wasn't needed and would be worse on the dog. Smh
@@dollsunitedcovenofkingssec6558 sedation has its dangers. Something could go wrong and end up hurting the dog and the coming out of it isn't great either. For any being, there's a limit amount of times in a certain span of time where you can be sedated. Sedation is still a form of drug use. Sure it is under medical attention, but it is still using drugs to knock you out. It should ALWAYS be a last resort thing. Dogs anxiety is usually due to something that can be resolved and changed, if the owners put in the work and if the groomer is willing to acomodate the pup. That sounds like a better option than just knocking out the dog everytime he needs to be bathed and brushed.
@@dollsunitedcovenofkingssec6558sedation should always be the last option. This lady helped this boy feel like a pup again. Matting hurts and getting a bath feels amazing
I work as a CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) and videos like this are so interesting to me. Any time you have an animal who comes to you with a negative reputation but they behave very well with you makes me think of the residents I care for who have a reputation with coworkers as being difficult or even verbally aggressive, but are only ever "rude" or even plain nice with me. It doesn't mean the other people deserve the bad behaviors (although some of course do), but sometimes it really just takes a little extra kindness, patience, and compassion to take the edge off. I don't know if that made sense haha, but I think about it every time you post a video like this.
I had the same exact thought. There are other groomers on this platform (won't name who) that would've just skipped straight to shaving Loki rather than be kind and patient, and you can really tell how their attitude affects the pets they groom. Here, you can tell that the groomer puts so much effort into caring for their comfort, provide positive reinforcement, etc that it turns all of the "problem" pets into pets that can be groomed. Loki was obviously on the much more well behaved side, but I can't think of a single case on this channel where a "problem" pet actually lived up to their reputation wholly. Maybe Mayonaisse.
@@TYANTOWERS ahhh I remember that doggo wasn’t he a rescue 🤔 but yeah that one sadly only seems to trust it’s owner which means there might have been some experience in the past and his owner has shown they are trustworthy 😊 even so might save on the grooming bill minus the expenses to get the proper tools of course 😅
This is very true, I don’t work in nursing but I look after sales portfolios and whenever I take handovers from other staff and they tell me how awful and difficult a customer is I almost never get that in my interactions. It really is about individual approach.
This makes me feel better. I "groom" my two huskies, and am happy to see I'm not the only one who just stands there trying to get them wet for an hour. I've had so many groomers who just kept raising their prices (I know they didn't want the job) so I finally invested in some good shears and am doing it myself. SO UGLY the first couple times, but I love learning from your videos. I'm strangely addicted to this channel since seeing my first one last night. REALLY need to get my day started, but love watching!
My children talk about the day that I mutilated our Lucy and she was so embarrassed she literally hid her head in the couch pillows. We've come a long way, and here I am rewatching many of Vanessa's videos! I've been inspired and can even do paw pads, nail clips and have ordered the Chris Christenson brush and shampoo!@@laultimarebanada
Same with my Pomeranian. I was being charged more and more and sometimes straight up ignored by my groomer (she would book 2 months in advance which is not often enough at all) Took me a year but I finally feel like I’m good at grooming her!! Such a money saver too❤️ and I get to pick my own shampoo lol, which smells so nice
What a gorgeous dog, omg. That face! I've had 3 huskies - a Samoyed, a Norwegian Elkhound and a Siberian husky. I think the secret to grooming thick double coated dog breeds is to do a little every day so you don't stress them, or yourself, out, and mats don't get a chance to develop. And they loved the attention.
Right! I’m not a professional but to my ears it reminded me of my own dog. She’s not a malamute, but she is a dramatic, grumpy old lady who loves to speak her mind 😂
Lol!! Yes! I had a Husky, they obviously speak the same language:). They are big conversationalists, including a good harmless bitch and moan😂😂. Loki is so patient and so beautiful, his coat is magnificent. What a sweet fur angel.
I worked at a shop that automatically wanted sedation for some breeds and I think that’s the case with Loki. Malamutes can be a intimidating to some and just get a bad rap. Loki is a perfect Angel and a breed ambassador imo
I came to say that. A family member is a pet groomer, and I hear the private thoughts sometimes. She doesn't want her own business, so she's at a shop. She's not taking any job that seems dangerous, which I agree with, but she's also refused to take most big breeds for awhile, sight unseen. She says if she misjudges with little dogs, she get a band-aid, but with big dogs, stitches. I get it, but I'm grateful for vets and sitters who care for my big dogs.
I really miss our malamute Rocky was a gentle giant. The only thing I don't miss is the hair. I was his only one to groom him. He loved the dryer. When I dried my hair, he wanted me dry him😂
@@GoldenPeaches This wasn't just a normal pug...She was a super special one. She was the runt of her litter and found by my friend in a mall "pet store". He normally would only get dogs from shelters, but she was in this store in a cage alone eating her own poop. He bought her considering it a rescue.
@@ckosturik Oh my god! She's a little fighter. I'm so glad he was able to help her and, well, I won't say what I'd like to see happen to the people neglecting the animals in their 'shop', but I will say that they're utter bastards and are subhuman scum.
What a sweet dog Loki is! His growls were more like grumbles of protest. If other groomers were thinking he needed sedating, they were either reading him wrong or maybe handling him roughly. He reminds me of a Malamute we lived near when I was 8 or 9 years old. That dog was all shades of soft gray with a white face and every bit as big and fluffy as Loki. He loved it when the neighborhood kids went outside to play in the winter because he had company to roam around the snowbanks with.
Or they recommended sedation for his comfort. Brushing and working out matting can be painful so sedation is not always suggested for behavior but rather if the owner wanted to save the coat through hours of dematting instead of shaving it.
Omg, Loki is so freaking adorable. And so well behaved. The fact that he stood for that entire groom other than his break, is phenomenal. And the tapping feet, as well as the little tongue sticking out was so cute!
i'm also a dog groomer and i find it funny but also a little unsettling when huskies, malamutes, and german shepherds are this quiet 🤣 thank you for taking care of this good boy! he looks so soft and squishy i just wanna cuddle him
A constant calm dialog is reassuring. Silence doesn't give them any clues to what's happening. Just telling him or the camera what's happening allows him to sense your intentions through the inflection of your voice. You are excellant in every way!
If I were a groomer I'd be constantly babbling with the doggos because I'm like that even just petting my dog. Feels funny to just pet her in silence as she's looking at me.
Absolutely, but on the flip side of that, you have to be honest with yourself. If you´re feeling nervous or fearful, dogs will pick up on that in your voice. Vanessa is perfect in that respect, though.
I'm about 11 minutes into the video and holy crap, how anyone thought Sedating him or Shaving him down fully were the only options I will never know! this is the most chill dog ever, all it took was someone who understands the breed and has enough time to work with him effectively
I've seen many pets whose owners hold the "he/she HATES being brushed" only to find the problem wis the wrong kind of brush or comb. I have five different brushes and combs for cats because different cats I've had over the years hated different tools, but were fine with one of the others.
might be dog reactive, or picky about the type of grooming tools all dogs have grooming quirks, whatever loki's are they weren't being a big deal in this salon setup
23:23 definitely true! My boy Loki once got some big cuts on his legs that needed stitches. The nurses called me back to help because he was FREAKING OUT. Which is odd cuz he’s normally the most chill dog ever. I immediately realized that all the fuss is because he wanted the muzzle off. I asked the nurse if I could take the muzzle off and just hold his head, and she reluctantly agreed. He immediately calmed down and let the nurse stitch his paws with no fuss beyond a bit of whining.
As a dog groomer myself I refuse to put muzzles on dogs unless I genuinely believe the dog is going to give me a puncture wound or bite my face because if you think about what putting a muzzle on dog would be like from a human perspective the best example I can give is imagine you went to go see the hairdresser and they pulled on your hair in a way that hurt just a little bit to much for your liking and you told them to knock it off (the dog equivalent being a growl or a light snap towards your hand or the object in your hand), and then immediately after that the hairdresser stopped what they were doing and suddenly grabbed some duck tape and wrapped it around your mouth before going back to what they were doing. You would start stressing and freaking the hell out as well! If I am uncertain of how a dog is going to react or they do bite a little bit to hard for comfort I will where protective gloves and continue the groom. And with the dog biting the gloves I don’t get hurt and the dog (if they aren’t just extremely stubborn or terrified) eventually realises biting isn’t making me go away or stop what I’m doing and will at some point give up and the second they do I give them a break and a lot of extra love to let them know that when they stop biting good things happen like getting off the table quicker which is usually what the dog wants more then anything when their behaving in that manner.
As a novice groomer I love watching your videos. I am learning so much, especially patience. You have such a mellow, soothing voice and I'm sure that helps so much. Now I just have to get a supply of happy hoodies! Thank you for sharing your videos.
I’m always amazed at how nice the paws look after grooming. Even though she said they’re not as nice as she’d like they’re miles better than the forest he originally had 😂
His lil tongue 🥹 I just feel like you are a sweet soul and you really take care of your furry customers, this is so cute to see ! The work is impressive also 😍
What a magnificent animal! You could tell when he was "growling" it wasn't really a growl, it was more of a grumble, if he had words in sure he'd be saying something like "urgh I don't like it" or "not this again" there was no threat in it at all. He's a big friendly giant and I want 1 just like him 😍😍😍
That’s exactly how my Eskimo is. She back talks all the time, even if I move my feet to “her” space on the bed, but she’s just a complainer and lets me know how she’s feeling 24/7. 😂
@ericaelliott1178 Tell me about it.mine will howl the house down for at least hour my neighbours have told me if I had to leave him on his own for any reason,So he tends to come everywhere with me.Unless I can have someone babysit him.🤦♂️
I always marvel at how easy you make dog handling and grooming look. I’m up in my 60’s now, and I fully appreciate how much physical strength and stamina on your part these grooms require, as well as the psychological skill you demonstrate dealing with animals. And then there is the work involved in producing such high quality videos on a consistent basis. Hats off to you!!
Your hairstyle is EXTREMELY cute in this video. So was Loki's smushed face and eyes in the happy hoodie. :') What a soft giant. I'm surprised he hasn't sat even once, which I think is outstanding for a dog his size and in such weather. This fluffy cloud looks adorable. The gooddest of boys.
I'm honestly shocked he didn't sing you the song of his people the entire time! Such a well-behaved pup. Also, your hair is so cute in this video! Although you probably do it because it fits perfectly around your head mount lol. Either way, great pup, great hair, great groomer! :)
I am so very impressed with your tone with the animals you groom - you are very calm and soothing when you talk to them. I know they sense that and I feel like that helps so much.... you let them go through their emotions and you don't hold it against them- you truly have a gift. ❤
When I was younger I had an Irish Wolfhound. She would sometimes let out little cries when I brushed her. I realized very quickly that sometimes it hurt her. I spent a lot of time apologizing to Cass, while I brushed her. Her matting wasn't bad, but every now and then, the brush would pull and she let me know. She never barked or bit me. I love your channel and how you treat the dogs and cats as individuals and your "let me see for myself" attitude.❤
Cass was a doll then. My current is a rescue so I don't have his history but sadly he is a biter. If you snagged a mat and Cass just whimpered she totally trusted you.
Loki was a very good boy and seemed to actually enjoy the dryer massage. He looks stunning after his groom! One of the things about wooly Malamutes and Siberians is their coat texture is different, a little softer as you showed us and that + the extra length tends to allow for more ice buildup than the shorter coat. That means paws and friction areas (groin, under legs) tend to collect ice balls in the snow and need to be checked carefully when the dog is outdoors in winter so any ice won't cut the dog or cause ice blisters. That and the coat compacting more easily affects the coat's ability to insulate as well. That meant that woolies would have more difficulty in Arctic conditions, and is why woolly coats are not permitted in the breed standards. Nevertheless, woolies do make amazing and beautiful family members with proper training and care. All the woolies I've ever known were just as sweet as Loki.
Big babies have big vocals…take it from this very vocal Akita mom, that wasn’t a growl. Loki is just the sweetest boy, and his coat was so much better than I thought it would be. Great job!! ❤❤❤
It didn't sound like he was growling. It sounded more like he was talking to you. My dog (Foxi is part husky/part german shepherd). When I play with her she sounds a lot like he did. You are really great with the dogs. You talk to them, which not all groomers do. But when you talk to them, it soothes them. And they react to that. I love watching your videos.
Agreed! I feel like working with animals is a lot like working with little kids, both critters that can’t communicate verbally very well. But even if they don’t understand the words you’re saying, just hearing you talk in a calm, confident and collected voice puts them at ease. They know you ain’t mad at them, so they know there isn’t any danger of being hurt :) …they still complain though lol
@@SpookyNugs In order to search for something, you have to know that it's necessary to do so. I grew up with pet dogs, but I didn't know what matting is and there's a lot of terminology that I'd never heard of before watching this channel. Not everyone lives their lives online.
I worked on a very compacted (but not matted) border collie for a couple weeks slowly building trust and communication of “gentle”. It was an acknowledgment of his discomfort and then trying to be more “gentle” to show him I was listening and going at his speed. Poor babe had such sensitive skin so any pulling was scary for him- but he loves the attention during brushing now :^)
It would have been tragic to shave such a beautiful coat, I am so glad you have the time, patience and experience to make Loki shine. I bet those hugs were epic.
You're SO GOOD with your clients!!! Loki didn't even sound like he was growling; more like the husky/malamute vocalization to casually complain. 😊 Such a good boy! His owners raised a gentle floof! ❤

Such a good boy! Shaving the mats was a really good idea, and I think reduced his stress significantly. Even though he tippy-tapped, he was so much more cooperative and calm than I expected when you got to his feet. I think your calm and gradual approach made it easier on him.
Under that wooly fur, I’d guess he’s quite fit and not overweight like many large breeds. Hopefully they’re giving his joint support and standing on four feet is easier for him.
Lokey is a gorgeous dog. "Sedate him or shave him, that's your only option" was being spoken by those who are not as patient, loving and as kind as you. Great work as usual Vanessa.
Not so much that, as much as not having the time in their schedule to do so. Most groomers have to do 5-10 dogs per day. They can’t do those AND him without doing the easiest solution. She’s lucky enough to own her own business and be able to groom them for free, so she doesn’t have to fit as many dogs in as she can to make ends meet. She can do 1 dog and be done for the day.
Loki is sooooo mellow. He actually seemed to enjoy the dryer! I had huskies, they were always good-natured, but they did like to "sing the song of their people" and MAN did they have an independent streak. Vanessa has the perfect personality for working with dogs. They respond to her calm nature and it helps them to realize that although they may not like what is happening, they are in safe place.
Not only is she calm, she has the right amount of empathy AND authority that the dogs feel safe with her or get to the point where they feel safe with her. A lot of people forget that dogs look for someone to lead them, someone who assures them they are in control and everything is safe.
10:00 That "Happy Hoodie" Turns a majestic looking dog into a complete dork every time! If you shaved his coat, would it come back the same? My brother had a big beautiful Malamute that broke in hives, so they shaved him from the back of his head, to his tail. He looked like a cartoon character!
hearing his vocalizations makes me a lil teary eyed bc even though it's been years since I had her...I miss my mouthy, stubborn, chicken and talkative Malamush! You did a really lovely job...on the least cooperative breed!
Just like th huskies, such drama, & complaining Its so sad losing any pet, especially one raised from puppyhood, or kitties.. been thru many.. Don't think Loki is pure Mal., they do not have long ruff, like a collie, it's is shorter ,& dense,.. & short point ears..
I like how, at the end, when you said, "Up!" to get a hug, he immediately jumped onto the table without hesitation. He probably didn't love the groom, but he got treats up there, so... What a handsome and (mostly) well-behaved gentleman.
I think he did not even hate the spa day. It wasn't his best experience ever in his life, but it was not awful - he behaved very civilised, was happy when it was over and was such a good boy throughout.
It must be such a relief to dog breeds with a lot of hair to get the excess hair, especially the matted part, trimmed away. I have very thick, tightly curled hair, & I know how it feels to get my hair cut short; it's absolutely liberating.
Wow. That's amazing that she did that in 3.5 hours. I was glad she mentioned he was refraining from sitting. I noticed that and thought it was odd. Hats off to her. That's a job that looks fun but it's such hard work. She makes it look so easy. Love it when she trims those grinchy feet!
I love it when you do huskies and Malamutes. So much information needs to be shared about these beautiful, high-maintenance dogs. Most people do not realize
I’m so glad you analyzed his behavior and his growling. My dog is a talker like that too. Just grumbles, letting me know that doesn’t feel right. He doesn’t ever to seem to tense up or pose for a bite. You are awesome!

The ending picture of him in your yard was the best😍
It really does. Smell is a very developped sense in cats and dogs, sniffing stuff really helps them understand and not be threatened by some object. It's like the dentist showing you the tool they're gonna use before putting it in your mouth, smells really help them navigate this stuff
He is one of the most beautiful, patient and kind malamutes I have ever seen. That is a really long time for a dog that large to stand. He did so well. Wow! That coat at the end is absolutely gorgeous!!! Great job!
He's so gorgeous but grooming definitely helped lol! He just looked like he felt better and lighter. And he did do so good! Even when you could tell he was really anxious, he trusted you and you weren't pushy with him, you let him understand that you were in charge but he was safe. That makes all the difference. He's so beautiful and so sweet!

Vanessa you are such a blessing to so many pup families, you understand what they need and you take the grooming at their pace, not trying to rush to get as many customers as possible in a day.. I also love that you chat with the animals while grooming, I would like to think that makes it more pleasant for the animals also..
It's important to keep in mind here that - as Vanessa herself has mentioned many times - she is in the somewhat rare position of being able to *afford* to take as much time with her clients as they need. For so many groomers, that one extra pet they groom that day may be the difference between being able to pay rent that month, or not. I can guarantee you no one goes into this career for the money. They all do it because they love animals.
Actually, Vanessa doesn't charge for grooming. Her income is from her videos. That's why she can take on dogs with a problem coat or behavioral issues.

Tried to do the same with my cavalier, but on his blanket on the sofa. Hoped doing a little brushing every day in a chill, cozy setting would make him like it. As soon as the brush comes out he looks like he's about to be beaten, so didn't quite work out 😅

💕 Sweet story.
This is actually great for you and your dog. Brushing therapy can be very soothing for humans!
Not all groomers can do just one dog at a time or spend so much time, luckily for Loki she was able to get him into her nice, quiet shop.
This has always peaked my curiousity. I've never used one so I don't know what it's like, but the groomers near me sounds terrifying from outside. It is just an endless cacophony of barking from numerous dogs. I'm surprised any dog can stay calm and quiet in there.
I think they can also sense the love she has for them.
As a groomer who works in a quiet shop and does only one dog at a time, I 100% agree. I wish busier groomers wouldn't resort to suggestions like "shave or sedate" when a simple "I'm not the groomer for you/a quieter environment would be better for him" would be so much more helpful.
His little tongue poking out and the happy hoodie squishing his face makes him look so adorable and sleepy
He probably *is* sleepy which is why I prefer mine to lay down so I finish one side at a time for their comfort. For the very old and arthritic ones, they appreciate it and only have to stand for a few minutes right at the end of the session.
The cutest!
Jea, his whole face is just: mam I don’t approve this procedure 😄
was looking for this comment lol its so true!!
Even when HE hasn't showered, he'll come find anyone he hears using the hair dryer and aim his butt at them😂
😂😂😂
Yep
I also love the little fan of hair sticking out at the top LOL. Like a teenage boy who’s simply too cool for school 😂
As a mobile groomer, I cannot emphasize how wonderful of a pup Loki is. He was a fantastically behaved boy and I am a little shocked other groomers would insist on sedation or shaving. Great job!!!!
Some people just do not understand this breed of dog. He’s a wonderful malamute.
What a beautiful animal!
So well behaved and another cute, fluffy dog.
I assumed the sedation was because of how painful it would be for him. That, or they were just afraid of what a big dog he is. He's a massive, majestic, beautiful beast, but like a big beastly boy can do a lotta damage if they're in pain right?
Way to go Loki! Breaking down the malamute behavior stereotypes one groom at a time. Such a well behaved good boy!
I know, especially for how much work this was he was shockingly well behaved, regardless of breed.
Hope he got lots of praise when he got home :D

Once she starts brushing, you can see he's totally like "I AM a good boy, but why are we still doing this. Can we be done?" Such a sweetheart.
Exactly! He doesn't realise how cute his feet look after they've been de-grinched.
Wow after all that washing the undercoat isn't even wet!?
No wonder there Alaska dogs!
I love the way Loki leaned into the blow dryer and closed his eyes with the happy hoodie on. So cute. He is such a fluffy man.
He’s the biggest floof I’ve ever seen! 😊Every time Vanessa says, “woolly malamute”, my brain hears, “woolly mammoth.” 😅

you can tell he rlly doesn’t like getting his paws shaved, but he trusts her enough to let her do it, its so cute 🥺
I was thinking that his paws were probably sensitive with all that hair & long nails to boot. Imagine having to walk around like that daily? Man, my feet would definitely be tired & sensitive too.
His feet are huge
Her energy is "in charge". Animals need that. 🎀
I love watching the feet transform from fluffy floofs to tidy toes. His growls were definitely just little protests. He was such a sweetheart!!
Honestly I don’t even think it’s fair to call those growls, it’s more like grunts and groans. My dog makes those noises when I tease him during playtime. Usually he follows it up with a yawn to signal play, but still. Grumpy baby is all that is❤

Vanessa is an actual angel. I only remember one dog on the channel who actually lived up to their ungroomable reputation, and she solved it by bringing the owner in to help instead of just writing the dog off. Just goes to show what an excellent rapport she has with the dogs she grooms

He's mouthy like my husky, but he's just grumblin. Thank you for letting him voice his opinion without immediately muzzeling him!
Malamutes can be so friendly and loving.
I totally agree 😊 My husky was such a talker but a sweet natured soul. He could even say "I love you" clear enough that you knew what it was. I miss him.
Is that normal for the breed to tap dance or was that just his thing (it was so cute)
@lucianozo I think he was just being silly 🥰 They don't like their feet touched anyway, he was just protesting politely.
What a good and beautiful boy! I love his coloring ❤
I love seeing the dogs being pampered so well. It's spirit lifting. The lady does an awesome job when working with the dogs.
Those were grumbles and moans, similar to the reaction you might expect from a teenager when you tell them to clean their room “ughhhhh 🙄”
Exactly. I knew Loki was just saying "I hate this" like a cranky kid. He wasn't being threatening at all.
My husky does it too
That's what I thought. He wasn't growling.
A dog that big and that well-behaved has, no doubt, been well trained not to jump up on people. When he got the "Up!" command, he thought about it for a second and got up on the scale. Brilliant! Loki is the calmest and most cooperative Malamutes I've ever seen
Or he might just be hot and tired
My thought exactly. He was taught not to jump on people. He's beautiful.
The hoodie! I've learned so much about how to bathe and dry my own dog.
Ugh... my ex taught his (now my) puppy to jump up.
Wow. This big guy needed neither sedation nor a shave and is SO beautiful and patient! People who do this work are saints.
Yes! They truly earn their sheckles! I love watching but can't imagine doing the work!
Great work sparing him that !
why wouldn't you sedate them. how would you like to have extreme anxiety for 4 hours straight while some stranger pokes and prods at you
@@dollsunitedcovenofkingssec6558 if it's a frequent thing, I'm pretty sure it can become dangerous to their health, if you sedate them.

Malamute dramatic groan being confused for growling was the funniest part of the whole video, great stuff

Isn’t this the “insta famous “ dog?? Loki the wolf dog??
If it is, nice to know the owner is putting money he made off Loki back into him haha
Oooh that makes sense, especially with multiple employee VS a singular self employed groomer taking in the risk

They couldve just been busy groomers who didnt have time/want to take to the time to "feel out" a dog thats big enough to bite their hand clean off.
Probably just saw breed and immidiately called judgement
Or they recommended sedation for his comfort. Brushing and working out matting can be painful so sedation is not always suggested for behavior but rather if the owner wanted to save the coat through hours of dematting instead of shaving it.
His breed is very vocal I wouldn’t call that growling
Can’t believe how long he stood and so patient bless him ❤

Vanessa’s calm confidence inspires the dogs to do their best not to play up I swear.
He understood the warning she gave him about putting the muzzle on him - the reaction was priceless.
I'm about 11 minutes into the video and holy crap, how anyone thought Sedating him or Shaving him down fully were the only options I will never know! this is the most chill dog ever, all it took was someone who understands the breed and has enough time to work with him effectively
Crazy, right? Like the dog didn't complain at all.
Indeed! When she said what other groomers recommend I chuckled to myself and thought, not for our girl, just wait and see her magic touch and learn! 🤭
I've seen many pets whose owners hold the "he/she HATES being brushed" only to find the problem wis the wrong kind of brush or comb.
I have five different brushes and combs for cats because different cats I've had over the years hated different tools, but were fine with one of the others.
He was likely in areas he didn’t feel comfortable. A lot of dogs do better in one on one environments rather than a setting with multiple dogs.
might be dog reactive, or picky about the type of grooming tools
all dogs have grooming quirks, whatever loki's are they weren't being a big deal in this salon setup
I think muzzles should be a crime to put on dogs! I hate them! Good for you!

When she says "outside" and "treat" and his little ears bounce, god that was so cute
Agree…just vocalizing and letting you know when to change brush location😊
I don’t think people realize how much protection a double coat provides dogs who have them.
My Labrador has been known to swim in the river after a stick and come out with her skin still dry.
Hot in the winter, cool in the summer. Double coats are amazing.
At this point with the internet at their hands is it not knowing or just choose ignorance you know?
It's laziness. Pets are just a status item for many.
Poor babe had such sensitive skin so any pulling was scary for him- but he loves the attention during brushing now :^)
So many knots! You've done a mission impossible kind of grooming!
Congratulations on a job well done!👍👍👍
He was such a good boy! I don’t see why someone suggested sedating him. Great job, Vanessa! ❤️🐾
I'm guessing he just didn't cope well in a typical grooming environment that might be under time pressure, full of other dogs, etc
You are the bravest , best groomer ever... those with xl dogs are blessed to find you...🥰
Girl, I admire you so much. You just don't _make them look pretty,_ you actually GET IN THERE and leave them squeaky clean! 😊❤ My scoliosis SCREAMS watching this, btw. 😭
Yes! I'm glad she gives sanitary shaves to the dogs and cats that need it. I'm sure that helps keep them cleaner a little longer and they feel less itchy and/or gross.
Grooming is a physically demanding job
Not that I'm saying she'd ever do a bad job, but if she was going to do a bad job on a dog it's unlikely to be one being filmed for TH-cam now is it 😉
@@LDrosophilaYeah my heart rate hits 160 brushing my dog every day
@@Phreak0matic. I have seen the odd groom where she didn’t do what she would have liked to and one where she had to stop the groom. What she is doing I’d educating. I admire her to pieces. ❤
I think all of us collectively think Loki needs to be a permanent client. His derp happy hoodie face. Are you KIDDING ME!? More of this please. 😂😂😂
Exactly!! 😊😊
It will depend on whether they live close enough.
Such a good boy! Shaving the mats was a really good idea, and I think reduced his stress significantly. Even though he tippy-tapped, he was so much more cooperative and calm than I expected when you got to his feet. I think your calm and gradual approach made it easier on him.
Loki is a handsome, good boy…🥰🐾🐾💙
(Your nails always look so nice! 💅🏼)
That Loki wasn't a serial sitter must have been a huge relief. Such a well behaved puppers.
@@Kelsie154THIS! He's worth $500 to groom if he's your only job that day. Nobody can pay THAT, well, nobody I know 😂
Lack of experience may also have been a factor.
Make you wonder what the other groomers were doing to him.
Just like th huskies, such drama, & complaining
Its so sad losing any pet, especially one raised from puppyhood, or kitties.. been thru many..
Don't think Loki is pure Mal., they do not have long ruff, like a collie, it's is shorter ,& dense,.. & short point ears..
@@Memow-pk1ng The dog in this video is a wooly version of the breed, which means they have a longer coat than others, but he's still a malamute
@@fluffyfeathers2124 oh didn't know that, I'm only familiar w/ th show dog types....nevwr seen one in showering
Thought wooly meant was matted ..
@@Memow-pk1ng No wooly meant he was wooly. :v Vanessa even said he wasn't matted.
Mute’s TALK! It’s the tone and intention, you will be able to tell the difference! I miss my Rex!
Malamutes are so talkative, I’m actually surprised at how quiet he was! So Gorgeous ❤
I like how, at the end, when you said, "Up!" to get a hug, he immediately jumped onto the table without hesitation. He probably didn't love the groom, but he got treats up there, so...
What a handsome and (mostly) well-behaved gentleman.
Yeah, he said, "I'll hug you for a treat."
And thinned for summer time.❤❤
Wow. That's amazing that she did that in 3.5 hours. I was glad she mentioned he was refraining from sitting. I noticed that and thought it was odd. Hats off to her. That's a job that looks fun but it's such hard work. She makes it look so easy. Love it when she trims those grinchy feet!
His parents must be so excited to have him glorious and clean and also know how good he can be with the right groomer.
Yeah. Find one with this kind of patience. Buon fortuna
I love it when you do huskies and Malamutes. So much information needs to be shared about these beautiful, high-maintenance dogs. Most people do not realize
What a great job you really have a gift with animals
I’m so glad you analyzed his behavior and his growling. My dog is a talker like that too. Just grumbles, letting me know that doesn’t feel right. He doesn’t ever to seem to tense up or pose for a bite. You are awesome!
I’m not even a dog owner and I’m obsessed with your channel. You’re so calming, informative and patient. Great job!!! ✨✨✨🫶

What a beautiful, gentlemanly cloud of fur! Even his little grumbles were adorable. Great job, Vanessa.
Such a beautiful boy! I love how you care for these fur babies. And I love watching you do what you do for them. Thank you for not giving up on them!
I just watched a video where someone took her dogs fur and made yarn into it to knit a blanket and one of the comments on her page was that she(Theo the Sammy) should team up with you to reuse all the fur you remove and then maybe you guys can sell the blankets to go towards your rescue😍
Thanks for another great video. The ending picture of him in your yard was the best😍
Until the garment gets wet then you smell like wet dog!! 🤣🤣
Fly tying. Fishing. That’s who wants this fur! Local fly shop would go nuts for this stuff! 😊
Letting him sniff the brush is the same weird energy I do with my cats lmao I always hope it helps them understand for some reason
I do this with my cats and tell them "look! thats your smells in there!"
I feel like if it smells like them, they'll be less afraid of it lol
I do it sort of like, “this is your nemesis! Not me. This is who to blame for what’s about to happen.”
It really does. Smell is a very developped sense in cats and dogs, sniffing stuff really helps them understand and not be threatened by some object. It's like the dentist showing you the tool they're gonna use before putting it in your mouth, smells really help them navigate this stuff
@@coconoisette Depends on the tool, ahah
I do it to basically ask for permission, to find out if they're up for it. all my cats have lurved grooming time, you can't force them
He is one of the most beautiful, patient and kind malamutes I have ever seen. That is a really long time for a dog that large to stand. He did so well. Wow! That coat at the end is absolutely gorgeous!!! Great job!
What a sweetheart. I love his hugs. He was so good. A little extra TLC was all he needed.

The drool stream from the second he heard "treat" until she finished explaining about his leg & handed it to him. 🤣🤤🤣 Good boy, Loki! Thank you, Vanessa, for another awesome fluffer video!
@@bcaye yes, I am aware of the causes that she promotes as well as having no charge for the grooming she does. But others may not be aware of that, so thanks for the comment🙂
