Funny thought that I has is that Control is basically office work in a nutshell, the insane amount of bureaucracy, the bathrooms are always clogged, there's mold everywhere, the hiss being the sound polution of the city and the janitor is always the most helpful figure hahahaha love your videos man, can't wait for the sequel!
@@GamingUniversityUoG I knew he was talking about Lord Alfred with his cat and his previous cat was Sylvia Plath but I never found the report so I couldn't make the connection. And honestly I thought he didn't really care about the work here since he seemed kinda useless, losing so many altered items and forgetting about Philip. When Jesse was more formally "Director Faden" I was like "now when can I fire that guy..." But I suppose it's good to know he does at least care about the work.
@@LMichaela94 Few things, firstly it is not his fault he lost the items as they were hiss possessed in an active lockdown. as shown with the TV and anchor they can literally alter the very fabric of reality as we know it, and with the hiss corruption what used to work to contain them no longer worked. really the only things keeping some of these items in those rooms are just appeasing what ever random need they require to be pacified. and with phillip he says it himself, he has had an absolute shit ton on his plate from what is going on...its honestly impressive with everything considered that his ticking time bomb of a department is still so well maintained.
@vasheeri I'd like to add that I don't think he intended to start a revolution per se, but to get other people thinking about the Altered Items in a different way. Langston gives me some autistic vibes. He's likely a man of ritual himself, so he'd figure out pretty quickly that these items have little rituals that keep them "behaving". Some items seem to have more power or a stronger will than others, so there are still some that can be kept in line better than others. For the rest, Director Faden seems to be able to completely rid them of their otherworldly influence. Trench was more of a dictator, while Faden has a more level head on her shoulders. As a former civilian, she has a completely different perspective than her predecessors.
If you observe that chanting in latin makes your SCP table stop floating in midair, and you can repeat this test several times to the point in which you can predict that it will happen every time, that is science, you did science right there
I will be able to add more on top of this when I get to talking about the Christmas Tree Altered Item. All the rituals the Bureau learned to pacify the objects was learned from that Altered Item. As Langston says, it is not superstition if it works. The science part comes in when trying to figure why saying these words has an effect. Sound vibrations, the intention behind the words, programming? Lots of options.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Agree. That why i like they used words like Thaumathurgy. But Paranatural may be more applicable because by standard definition supernatural is something you just cant understand why. Which would drove bureau scientist mad. On the other side i can get behind knowing why it works. If you know how it works than you could change meaning of it or possibly alter altered item. Or atleast it's reaction
Right? Even the examples that this channel creator gives -of humanity's past beliefs about earthquakes and lightning etc- pretty much back up that the modern FBC approach is correct. If something can be categorised and "explained" by science, then it isn't arcane in the sense of something being completely unknowable and just being that way because it is that way.
@@GamingUniversityUoGI have a strong suspicion that "paranatural" is not only a "scientific" term, but also a more suitable one in terms of documentation. The reports are supposed to be written in an obscenely dry, official language that makes you feel as if you're chewing a boot sole. "Paranatural" does exactly that. You can probably thank Wake for making it like that.
This kind of reminds me of Albert Einsteins quote: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” When dealing with altered items, approaching with what is known already severely limits oneself with how to approach said item, especially when these items don’t behave to the natural laws in our world. Whereas the superstition (allowing that imagination to run amok) can find new ways of how to handle altered items, even if the process/ritual seems absurd. The superstition then has truth and can be melded with science for further understanding.
With every Control Explained video the Remedyverse goes deeper and deeper. And I feel like even with all your videos we only scratched the surface of this world.

@@OntentXc If you mean the new Alan wake game, I think wee still probably get another Control, not that soon though and there is no problem. But if not, then I didn't see them xd
This is actually kind of encouraging. It means there is a group of people out there who have a broader understanding of how both the FBC and The WeirdShit works. They haven't lost all of the important secrets and details with the deaths of the top admins.
Soooo... Langston could be preparing a revolution within the FBC? The thought of a full out prison riot in the panopticon sounds terrible. Just think about the murderous fridge. On the other hand, i really like the way he talks. I can picture him standing on a copy machine in the executive sector chanting something like: "bureaucracy is dead and we killed it!"
More of a revolution of ideas. But yeah. I dont think it will be as big of a thing now that Trench isn't calling the shots. Langston does understand that they need to be contained. He's the one who sent jesse on side quests to collect rhen again. But yeah I love the idea that langston has a revolution brewing under the surface.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Yeah i didn't consider that. Jesse herself seems to be more open towards the more esoteric aspects. Hell, she also has a interest in poetry/music, so she probably clicks with langston in that regard.

That's so wild, I hadn't realized the connections between the poem and our eccentric cat lover Langston. I will say though that the 'Left Brain = Logic, math, and Right Brain = emotion, creativity' is a *very dated and inaccurate* understanding of our brains. (This is about as absurd as the myth that 'we only use 15% of our brains, but it has been so wide spread that movies and hack articles love to lean on these debunked theories in order to sell you on yet another wildly unfounded idea) In reality, logic and creativity is not mutually exclusive to either sides of our brains. Similarly, the differences of a 'male brain' vs 'female brain' is often related to the average sizes of women vs men. I would strongly encourage checking out some of the many articles out there that discuss and break down these myths and where they came from. (Plus I'm just a youtube comment, I'd rather you not even take my own word without you checking for yourself.) It was a nice poetic comparison to bring up the myth of right/left brain male/female brains to explain science vs superstition in control as being a union of two sides, but it is wildly incorrect.
Thank you for the comment. Trust me I take any and all observations that go against my thinking seriously and appreciate it I learn things from you all as well every day. The information I presented was from some recent articles but I fully understand it is not a 'one size fits all' situation. I mean rationally what is the difference between calculation versus intuition? Intuition is unconsciously processing the information while calculations are consciously doing it. The two lobes are intrinsically tied together. However, I understand that one side doesn't so the job 100% in a certain type of thought. I think that is where the myth comes in. Suffice it to say psychology is far more complicated that over simplifying a thing. I think my inclusion of it here is more of a poetic comparison between science/faith rather than a literal one. I looked into part of the brain that experiences religious experience and it is all over the place and not confined to a single spot.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Absolutely agree in regards to breaking down the age old idea that logic should be the opposite of creativity. Since things like puzzle solving requires creativity, or 'thinking outside the box.' We have so many contradictions in our language about what it is to be logical vs creative. I'd sooner just use an analogy of the expression of art using math (such as architecture, and impossible shapes) to make an example of unifying Logic and creativity than using the organ between our ears as an example. In any case, I enjoy seeing you explore the depths of Remedy! And I actually am excited to see if they may pick up more on the conflicts between the two groups in future Control/AW games now that you've brought this to my attention.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Psychologist with a specialty in Neuroscience here. To say the concept of a creative hemisphere and a rational hemisphere is outdated is a vast understatement. The exceptions are very, very rare (speech comes to mind, as it is localized in the left hemisphere [for most people]). So I hope you understand that me and many of my colleagues get triggered everytime this pseudo scientific nonsense gets reiterated again and again and again. And it doesn't help that in most cases the attempt to correct the content creator just results in a lukewarm 'your right, but i just wanted to demonstrate / compare / simplify...' Just....ugh I love it. Gonna restart my playlist watch now while I start my work day!
Haha thanks for the support on these. I'm glad you enjoy them so much. There is way too no such content and interesting little tid bits that are begging to be explored.
Wow, I actually didn't know how people realised Langston was behing the Tennyson Report. Also, I've never noticed Archival Mandates 8.A and their meaning. Sometimes I think Control will never run out of secrets that can still be discovered... Thanks for the video!
Not being able to understand how something works doesn't equal "accepting the esoteric beliefs". For example, we don't really understand how some galaxies rotate the way they do. We can theorise that there is dark matter (which we don't understand either) that provides additional mass/gravity. We don't start thinking that it is God's hand that's rotating the galaxies. The same way Dr. Darling must surely accept the empiric proof that Langston's "rituals" work, but he would still try finding an explanation for them. In my view, the scientists are clearly in the right here. The Report's clear disdain for scientific terms puts it plainly in the realm of mythological thinking, which is harmful and unenlightened. Great video! I actually never found that place where the report is, and was like "wow, there's a secret area there!"
That is a fair enough perspective. Using your example, I'm curious if because we have a general idea about the movement if galaxies we accept or will figure it out someday. We at least know the question that we are to answer. Would it be fair to say some esoteric ideas, as the report puts it, are so outside of our realm of understanding that we dont even know how to ask a question about it? I have a feeling that Darling was getting an idea near the end. Saying that maybe resonance is the solution we need to bust the case wide open.
@Corey Coleman That is a really good quote. I'm going to use that for one of my supernatural stories. This is a highly underrated quote. You sir get a like!
The problem of using superstition in a place like the oldest house is that you may give extra power to forces that feed on belief ... Trench knew about the importance of rituals to keep the altered items calm but he also knew that he must use science to lock them away for example using resonance in control point and using black rock to lock OOP and AI ... so in a way science in the oldest house works like magical thinking that help keeping things under CONTROL
A very good argument for one side of this debate here. I can see it both ways. Not sure how I'd behave in the situation given what we know about the world.
I love your videos man! I got into Control & the Alan Wake games recently and I’m obsessed with this universe since it caters to people like myself that want to immerse themselves in the world by reading every piece of lore given. One of my favorite aspects of this universe is the creative twists Remedy has done with Carl Jung’s work; one of my favorite analytical psychologists.
Another great video. Thank you. Maybe the house plays a part in attracting the different types of personalities or brains to help think of the different ways to keep things contained.
There is going to be a diverse viewpoint on things in any workplace. Just depends if management is open to all ideas before making a decision or ignores any voice other than their own or those that mimic their own thoughts.
The oldest house is like a Tardis complete wit a working chameleon circuit Changing, bigger in the inside and hidden in plain sight, and then there is the singularity at the hearth, which has the possibility to open portals to other planes of existence

I'm already prepping for the control playthrough. Getting a collectible walkthrough ready to go so we can go over every piece of content in the game. There is a bunch I haven't had the chance to discuss yet that I know everyone will be interested in.
Your content never ceases to amaze me. Time and again, I have been impressed by the sheer attention to detail and the investigative skills and talents that you possess. I don’t think any single person in the entire globe has created this amount of *quality* content about this game. It is impressive. Very well done, friend. And the absolute joy I get when a new Control video is uploaded . . . indescribable. As always, I look forward to your future work and learning even more about the fascinating world that Remedy created. Three years later, we are _still_ learning new things-incredible. I haven’t been able to follow your other videos as closely (aside from Max Payne, which I _loved_) simply because I haven’t played the other games. I do look forward to checking out Hellblade now that I have finally bought it. I would love to get into Psychonauts 2, but I would have to play Psychonauts first, and, so, I have been feeling a little reluctant. Nevertheless, I know for a fact that your other content is just as satisfying and filled with knowledge as the ones I have seen so far. Thank you, honestly.
It is my absolute pleasure my friend. It is funny because I never really set out to do as much as I have here. Originally I had 7 specific videos planned for Alan Wake then stop uploading entirely. I can't express how good it is to know that you and so many others really enjoy this work. It is what has kept me going these past 2 years.
Great video, as always! I wonder if it would be dangerous to use faith for containing altered items and objects of power. It’s cool that some rituals work, but in a world where the collective unconscious is a thing, it’s possible that to praise them could give the objects more power. I don’t know.
That is certainly a concern. I think the board relies on that to strengthen itself. Even going out of it's way to demand worship. If the theory that these are possessed objects then the line between keeping it pacified or strengthening it is thin. Again we need to know more.
I am still trying to figure out if these changes got started under Northmoor of Trench. Probably trench. The fan was written originally when Ash Sr. was running the show so it had to be after then.
@@GamingUniversityUoG They definitely do, the Gnostics would be proud. The problem seems to be, at least in my eyes, that in their attempt to abandon spirituality for a more "esoteric science" type of pursuit, one that can handle the mundane and supernatural, they forgot that some of the shit they are dealing with is literally people (or at least person-shaped in its cognition) with feelings and emotions and desires. In other words, they're doing the same damn thing that early biology did to uncountable animals.
Wow I love the magic godly side of understanding. Magic Lovecraftian Scientific All combining in this game to form a truly bizarre form of nature within the oldest house. I love it
Langston's got a point. I mean, he spends most of his time in direct contact with these things. So its kinda like what happened with Hartman and Zane. And trenches constant need for control is kinda the reason the hiss got as far as it did.
Exactly. We need to have a balance to it all. Superstitions that dont work is completely irrational. Singing to plants to make them feel better makes no sense but it works.
Oh you've got to be shitting me! Another hidden file I missed? I may love this game but the amount of unlisted secrets and lack of completion metrics infuriates me to no end...
I get that. There seriously needs to be some form of collectible tracking. Remedy is great at their storytelling but little things like this need to be addressed.
Just when I thought I had all the Control lore covered, this one pops up. Great stuff. There's an interesting hint of the Orwellian to the way in which Trench (I suspect) used language to steer the herd into a set way of thinking.
@@GamingUniversityUoG I love it. The documents are all so well written and varied, I'd happily read a book of Dead Letters alone. One thing I'm desperate for you to cover is the Meteor Hill AWE. I love that you are continuing to make videos about Control! Thank you... Not enough folks are talking about it and even fewer are talking about all the minute details of the rich lore/mysteries. @Gaming University BTW did you mean to set your videos/channel as "child-content" or "made for children"? I tried turning the notification bell on but apparently that feature is turned off for "child content"??
I wish more channels talked about this franchise. It is a lore chasers dream with how much there is to dive into. And no I have my channel/videos turned to NOT suitable for children. Just checked.
I saw it as a philosophical approach with their own pitfalls. The esoteric approach could lead to worship of the paranormal and a lack of understanding. The scientific approach can lead to cold-hearted, mechanical, and often inhumane practices. Control shows the hazards of both.
100% my opinion as well. I read a quote somewhere about someday Quantum Mechanics and Religion will realize they are saying the same thing using different languages.
It just occurred to me that this philosophy is similar to that of the Blessed Organization, which is involved in the creation of Altered Items. Langston is the keeper of the Panopticon, and arguably the best authority in the Bureau second to Darling on Altered Items and how they function. I bet that if Chester Bless is ex FBC, that he and Langston have a connection.
Faith never asks "Does it work?". Fait outright states "We must believe it works, even if it looks like it doesn't work." That is what negating science leads to. Eschewing objective reality in favor of what one is convinced should happen.
To be fair to Trench, I can understand him wanting to put the kibosh on this report quickly given the Bureau is aware of the existence of the Blessed organization who seem to have a more occult modus operandi to their proceedings. So a memo going around saying the Bureau should embrace more esoteric practises, to me, feels like the Blessed organisation trying to pull the Bureau apart by the seams.
It makes sense for them to be possessed objects as with the flamingo and the benicoft tv they only becomes altered items by beung linked with an entity like the former
Well the TV let a random person fly around before the bureau got involved. But the flamingo had 0 effects until it got linked. Check out the Flamingo episode of the archivist series we have on the channel. It gives a lot more details on it.
@@GamingUniversityUoG fronone of your video on the Boards Deception, I came to the idea 💡 that the if the Oldest House represents the world tree then the Board is inspired by NIDDHOG The Soul Devouring Serpant trapped in the roots but also feeding on them as well
What the author is igboring is that OOps change dependant on perception. By having a number of people view a item as mystical or possesed you imbue them with those charecteristics. The reports author is accidentally arguing for the creation of 'Deamons' to posses the items and be hekd back via ritual..
@@GamingUniversityUoG true, but science is a established predictable system, having every OOP subject to unknown, intelligent and Hostile outside entities would be a disaster. It would effectively Hiss infect ALL the items within the house simultaneously...
I think the answer lies somewhere in between. Everything has a logic to it, but in the case of Control, some of those logical connections may lie outside our realm of understanding and perception, and therefore be impossible to define. I don't think the answer lies in treating it like magic, I think the decision to treat everything like a serious science is the right one, but to reject a working procedure because you don't understand it is ignorant. After all, "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
Wow. I never caught that Langston was the author of the Tennyson Report. Then again I didn’t know who Lord Alfred Tennyson was until I saw this video, so I never made the connection.
This is why science and rituals should work together in this setting. Does a ritual work because of the action or because the individual believes in it?
It is all in how you look at it. I think it is incorrect for the Tennyson Report to use science as an antithesis to magical thinking. It should be more of a synthesis. It is both the wizard tower and a prison.
Langston is just terrible at his job and needs to be fired or worse. His carelessness and blatant disregard for his employees like the guy with the frigde is unacceptable. He's probably a secret villain if he's not just plain stupid. I thought for sure Jesse was going to fire his a$$ after she came back, not ask him to stay! The panopticon is supposed to be a fortress with tight security and he had a disaster on his hands that the Hiss may have exacerbated, but certainly did not start. Who is this, Dennis Nedry? He's going to be the FBC's undoing, forget Chester Bless, Former, Hatch, or any other major players!
Browsing the video titles and not seeing one that might be more relevant to this, but - do you think Alfred is actually a cat? Langston says he doesn't remember when he got Alfred which normally wouldn't be significant but considering the setting makes me wonder if he accidentally brought some of his work home with him.
*raises hand* Hey Professor! Me again! I'm confused about something.... Again! Okay so... The Oscillator was acquired by the Bureau and contained in the Possessed Objects Gallery, which you state is the same place as the Panopticon, the only difference being the Archival Mandate name change. Assuming I understood you correctly here, I have the following question: Seeing as The Oscillator was acquired and subsequently contained by the Bureau on the 28th of July 1954, how can the Possessed Objects Gallery be the same place as the Panopticon? The Panopticon, I think we all agree, is located within the Oldest House, right? And what was the date in which the Bureau first discovered the Oldest House? 4th of August 1964 - Ten years AFTER the Oscillator was acquired by the Bureau. See the confusion I'm having here?
The Bureau operated out of a different place before the Oldest House was discovered. This Possessed Object Gallery was probably in DC somewhere or some random facility. Trench was the one who set aside funding for the Panopticon according to Langston. So this would be long after they initially found the House. The gap in time between the pre-house era and trench becoming director is never detailed. But I imagine they relocated the gallery for convenience sake.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Precisely! It is NOT the same place. And yes, I am perfectly aware of the Panopticon being constructed under Director Trench. Are you familiar with what a Panopticon is, by any chance? It's not a gallery, it's a prison. Any thoughts on why Director Trench would pick the Panopticon design to house AI/OoPs?
@@Tumbledweeb to keep all eyes on them, max security for a big threat, a panopticon is about the ability to look at all the inmates without them knowing whether they are being watched or not.

@@Tumbledweeb it was a response to the final question of "Any thoughts on why Director Trench would pick the Panopticon design to house AI/OoPs?", it's honestly a simple answer, it's good surveillance for items that can all pose a big threat, also given how you need to go thorough the panopticon would i be able to say it's traversed in a spiral like pattern, this is more on why the dev's chose the shape rather than trench.
9:26 is wrong. "Does it work?" is not faith. It's the seed of science. Once we know something works, then we can proceed to the next step and determine how and why it works. Faith is "Oh, I don't care investigating if ti works or not. I'll keep doing it and ignore any evidence that proves me wrong."
It is based upon Langston's comment that, "it isn't superstition if it works." Flipping the light switch on and off 3 times isn't logical or can be quantified scientifically but he knows it works.
@@GamingUniversityUoG So yeah, it's not superstition. Superstition would be "No, I don't wanna hear about how it does or doesn't work. I'll keep listening to myself, do what I do and ignore you."
Yeah that’s not how brains work, there are different parts of the brain on each hemisphere but the idea that one side has all the creative thoughts and the other has all of the logical thoughts is just plain wrong. Also fun fact, you can cut a humans corpus colossum severing the connecting between each hemisphere and the person will function almost entire the same as before, with some minor side effects, it’s used on patients who have severe seizures as a last ditch solution and it works
I would be all down for having melee options other than the force push. They basically stated that the Service Weapon used to be Excalibur/Mjolnir. It would be cool to see it change forms in ways other than gun types.
As for the rest of the video, I'm copypastaing something I wrote elsewhere on the Tennyson Report, but first I would like to address the bit where you've added: "Faith - Does it work?". Incorrect! Science DOES concerns itself with if something works, it's part of the Scientific Method. Faith doesn't give a flying fuck if something doesn't work, it will still insist that it does. Anyway, here's what I did on the report: Science is not the enemy, science is the ally. Langston fails to understand this because he lacks a basic understanding of how science works. If he had had this basic understanding of science, he would've realized that his work with the Altered Items was him doing science. He would've also understood that Altered Items do not fit under the 'Supernatural' umbrella term: If one cannot demonstrate that something does exist, then how is that different from something that doesn't exist? There is no difference. The reality of Altered Items is scientifically demonstrable, and the same goes for the observations he has made while interacting with Altered Items. Anyone who is of the mindset that Altered Items are just items needs to be taken downstairs to the Investigations Sector, and be introduced to Fra. This enemy he describes as the 'close-minded cult of logic and data', he is entirely correct about them being the enemy, but he is completely ass-backwards about what makes them the enemy: These people have abandoned logic and data and replaced it with whatever suits them. You need look no further than Dr. Darling for a textbook example of such an individual. Dr. Pope and Dr. Underhill have produced counteressays to research papers penned by Dr. Darling where they both call him out on him making wild-ass assertions with zero science backing it up. Langston doesn't have to be upset for much longer, though: With Dr. Pope as Head of Research, actual science has come home again. And once Dr. Pope gets a free moment to examine Langston's work, I'm pretty sure he'll be consulted on matters pertaining to Altered Items in the future. So in closing, since Langston decided to start out with poetry to express himself, I shall dedicate some poetry back to him regarding the bright future that is in store for the Bureau under the leadership of Director Faden: "This is one moment, but know that another shall pierce you with a sudden painful joy." - T.S. Eliot
Thanks for your response. If it was interpreted that 'science is the enemy' then I apologize. It was not my intention in the slightest. Langston certainly does care if something works. I use the audio clip of him saying so. My point is they don't care about the mechanics of 'how' it works when you have faith in something. Science is all about trying to uncover the mechanisms of the natural world to learn how it works. In this fictional setting both are necessary. Langston'a frustrations likely originated under the former administration where his believes were discounted. Otherwise he wouldn't have written the tennyson report in the first place. Under this current administration I don't think it will be as much of an issue. It might seem like a really odd person to quote but Crowley said, "Our method is science, Our aim is religion." Take of that what you will.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Nonono! This bit was not a response to your video! It was a post I made earlier that evening on the Tennyson Letter fandom page! I decided to copypasta it here cause no point writing two different versions of it when I can just use the first one. My copypasta here is targeted as either speaking directly to Langdon, or just nobody in particular. Not you! You're fine!" Sorry about that misunderstanding. It was a late night last night.. I think what Langston is going through isn't as simple as it being a science vs supernatural thing. Give a listen to the entire monologue he delivers at Director Faden during "AWE". He seems to be bullied by coworkers due to his experiences with Altered Items. He has also witnessed Fra being ridiculed by members of the Investigations Sector. He mentions having previously been seeing a therapist, but stopped going because the NDA he has to sign for work doesn't allow him to say anything, so it was pointless. So it's work-related reasons that he initially looked to get therapy for, seeing as there was nothing else on his mind for him to talk to the therapist about. He mentions that the therapist did give him one very good advice in order to deal with stress in a healthy way: Art Therapy, basically, which he has been doing for a while now, and has been helping him a lot. Said art therapy is those freestyle recordings you find in "AWE". So, he has got a lot of shit going on. Clearly! But I think it'll work out all right. He seems entirely comfortable with just telling Director Faden everything that's going on with him, so he's getting a bit of therapy there, and we all know that Director Faden would keep it to herself.
I am failing to follow your reasoning in regards to Archive Mandate 8.A. There is no document in the game that outlines exactly what this mandate is for. What information we have on said mandate is a notice included in certain documentation, which reads: "NOTE: Per Archival Mandates 8.A, this document has been edited to meet current administrative standards. Certain terminology may be out of date." You then present us with the following claim: "This documentation mandate is done with the intention to remove any and all concepts that relate to superstition or magic." then present The Oscillator Case File, that includes the mandate notice at the beginning, to talk about an example of terminology that you think the mandate addresses. How, though? If the mandate addressed the usage of "Possessed Object Gallery" you would not be able to sit here and talk to us about the "Possessed Object Gallery" because there would be a big, fat [REDACTED] blocking you from doing so. The note at the beginning clearly state that: "Per Archival Mandates 8.A, this document has been edited to meet current administrative standards." Since the term "Possessed Object Gallery" is still completely eligible in the case file, and the same is true for your other example "Thaumaturgy", then your claim about what Archival Mandates 8.A addresses is incorrect. They would've been redacted from this case file and all other case files in which they appear. Let me demonstrate by using an example of terminology that actually underwent change(see next comment):
"From "Research & Records: Astral Exhibition": "ADDENDUM: New naming conventions have been established for the Astral entity now known as “Astral Spike”. Outdated terms in this report have been redacted." So, if you go through all written records on this entity, the only name that will be readable to you is "Astral Spike", because it's previous names, "Brain Cloud"/"Astral Fugue", have been redacted! But wait! If redacted, then how could I possibly know about it? Because that IDIOT Dr. Darling does a namedrop in one of his dumb videos! Review "Hotline: Astral Exhibition". One final note for you on "Possessed Object Gallery": It is NOT the same place as the Panopticon, and the name was NOT changed because of 'possession'. The name changed because the "Possessed Object Gallery" was discontinued due to the "Panopticon" being built, ordered by Trench. A Panopticon is a type of prison architecture designed by one of my heroes Jeremy Bentham. Same purpose, still a place of confinement, what has changed is that it's more secure, it's easier to keep track of."
The funny thing is that your own examples about humanity's beliefs pretty much prove the Tennyson Report wrong. Humabity used to believe certain things and then science discovered they were otherwise. If that's not proof that all phenomena can be eventually explained by science then I dont know what is.
I thought everyone knew this. The Tennyson Report is when a 10 year old kid uses his alien watch to turn into aliens to gain superpowers.
Some people just can't see the alien influence right in front of them. Shame.

Did always really enjoy Langston's dialogue and view on the Altered Objects, didn't take him for the type to start an internal revolution.
As soon as I heard that line about his cat in the AWE dlc I was floored. This guy is so innocuous I dont think anyone thinks he is capable of it.
And his traffic light roomie.
Imagination encircles the world.”
When dealing with altered items, approaching with what is known already severely limits oneself with how to approach said item, especially when these items don’t behave to the natural laws in our world.
This game is so dense. I know we wre looking for the sequel but we have barely dissects the first one after two years.

@@jonaz7312 "My mother always said...never talk to strangers. Always. Never...never. But isn't a stranger just someone...you don't know? Straaange......errrrr"
Jesse is likely to see his point. She definitely exhibits an "if it's reliable, roll with it" attitude during the game.
(Plus I'm just a youtube comment, I'd rather you not even take my own word without you checking for yourself.)
It was a nice poetic comparison to bring up the myth of right/left brain male/female brains to explain science vs superstition in control as being a union of two sides, but it is wildly incorrect.

So I hope you understand that me and many of my colleagues get triggered everytime this pseudo scientific nonsense gets reiterated again and again and again. And it doesn't help that in most cases the attempt to correct the content creator just results in a lukewarm 'your right, but i just wanted to demonstrate / compare / simplify...' @@GamingUniversityUoG I'm so looking forward to the the videos with new discoveries :D
"The Science". It almost sounds like a idol of superstition in itself, that Rationality can save you from the Entity that didn't like your attitude.

Good thing the new Head of Research is a scientist who also has an "intuitive understanding" of the paranatural.
I have a gut feeling this issue will get better with the new administration personally.
The oldest house is like a Tardis complete wit a working chameleon circuit
Changing, bigger in the inside and hidden in plain sight, and then there is the singularity at the hearth, which has the possibility to open portals to other planes of existence

Langston's got a point. I mean, he spends most of his time in direct contact with these things. So its kinda like what happened with Hartman and Zane. And trenches constant need for control is kinda the reason the hiss got as far as it did.

1:39 I did not know there is a hidden area...
I think you get an extra skill point up there on top of the document. Always good to take a look!
So a memo going around saying the Bureau should embrace more esoteric practises, to me, feels like the Blessed organisation trying to pull the Bureau apart by the seams.

...sorry I had to.
Lmao you're good
I think the answer lies somewhere in between.
But don't those rituals and superstitions work because like altered items themselves those rituals are part of the collective unconscious?
This is why science and rituals should work together in this setting. Does a ritual work because of the action or because the individual believes in it?

Assuming I understood you correctly here, I have the following question:
Seeing as The Oscillator was acquired and subsequently contained by the Bureau on the 28th of July 1954, how can the Possessed Objects Gallery be the same place as the Panopticon?
@@Beowolf-jy5rc I know what the purpose of the Panopticon design is. Jeremy Bentham is one of my idols.
And that wasn't even remotely close to what I was addressing.
@@Tumbledweeb it was a response to the final question of
"Any thoughts on why Director Trench would pick the Panopticon design to house AI/OoPs?",
it's honestly a simple answer, it's good surveillance for items that can all pose a big threat,
also given how you need to go thorough the panopticon would i be able to say it's traversed in a spiral like pattern, this is more on why the dev's chose the shape rather than trench.
Yay, Control
Hopefully it won't be as long before the next one!
It is based upon Langston's comment that, "it isn't superstition if it works."
Flipping the light switch on and off 3 times isn't logical or can be quantified scientifically but he knows it works.
Calling it now, Jesse's gonna get a sword in the next game and it'll be a bit more melee focused.
Anyway, here's what I did on the report:
Science is not the enemy, science is the ally.
Imagne a group that follows the occult ways. Like serpants hand from the scp foundation.

Never heard of it before. Just looked it up. Looks interesting for the structure of it.
I am failing to follow your reasoning in regards to Archive Mandate 8.A. There is no document in the game that outlines exactly what this mandate is for. What information we have on said mandate is a notice included in certain documentation, which reads:
"NOTE: Per Archival Mandates 8.A, this document has been edited to meet current administrative standards. Certain terminology may be out of date."
You then present us with the following claim: "This documentation mandate is done with the intention to remove any and all concepts that relate to superstition or magic." then present The Oscillator Case File, that includes the mandate notice at the beginning, to talk about an example of terminology that you think the mandate addresses.
How, though? If the mandate addressed the usage of "Possessed Object Gallery" you would not be able to sit here and talk to us about the "Possessed Object Gallery" because there would be a big, fat [REDACTED] blocking you from doing so. The note at the beginning clearly state that: "Per Archival Mandates 8.A, this document has been edited to meet current administrative standards."
Since the term "Possessed Object Gallery" is still completely eligible in the case file, and the same is true for your other example "Thaumaturgy", then your claim about what Archival Mandates 8.A addresses is incorrect. They would've been redacted from this case file and all other case files in which they appear. Let me demonstrate by using an example of terminology that actually underwent change(see next comment):
"From "Research & Records: Astral Exhibition":
"ADDENDUM:
New naming conventions have been established for the Astral entity now known as “Astral Spike”. Outdated terms in this report have been redacted."
So, if you go through all written records on this entity, the only name that will be readable to you is "Astral Spike", because it's previous names, "Brain Cloud"/"Astral Fugue", have been redacted!
Doing rituals blindly just cause they work could end up with the world worshipping some dimensional being. 😐
The funny thing is that your own examples about humanity's beliefs pretty much prove the Tennyson Report wrong.
Humabity used to believe certain things and then science discovered they were otherwise. If that's not proof that all phenomena can be eventually explained by science then I dont know what is.
What why i didn’t read that ?.?
Did you find it? It is pretty well hidden.
