Hands down every time im watching a new slew realism painting video I become more excited to pick up the paintbrush again. I haven’t painted in almost 12 months but you’re inspiring me to begin again!
Slew, so much improvement with the portraits. You definitely don't get as chalky as you use to. I love the color combos for the background floating heads as they are not too saturated and more muted in others. You are more effectively breaking down the planes of the face and head which gives your work a more mature sense of confidence and intent. Love watching your growth and can not wait to see another stencil project.
Honestly, putting yourself on a neutral background is very on brand haha Your portrait painting muscles have to be jacked by now 💪. I love how it turned out.
I recently embarked on a similar journey of painting 9 portraits. These aren't just any old portraits though. Oh no no. I'm painting 9 self portraits wherein each one I'm portraying a different emotion, what is known as "Navarasa" basically translated to nava (nine)- rasa (expressions). This is the base for any kinda classical dance in southern India. I'm on month 2 and I have 2 more faces left! I'm sick of looking at my own face at this point.This video legit came at the perfect time! Really needed the inspiration to finish the project! Thanks a lot slew! Huge fan! :)

Love this vid! Just a small tip to make things faster if you wanted it (you might have already thought of it). A lot of oil painters don't draw with pencil under their painting, instead they use a wash of water and acrylic paint in one color, and then more acrylic to do the drawing aspect. Acrylic dries very quickly and you can layer it under oils (though not the other way around). Might be faster than drawing and using fixative. Cheers!
