In Belgium you sometimes get an additional ticket for 'inproper use of hazard lights' alongside the incorrect parking ticket. Doesn't happen as often as I'd like though.
yeah... I don't know if there's a good solution for that, because in some places where there are bike lanes, there isn't enough demand for parking for cops to stop and give tickets, but there is enough for regular people to park, and so it is also dense enough to need a bike lane.. So maybe cops on bikes would work. Or motorcycles. One thing they have to get rid of in American cities is parking minimums, and we need road diets in our downtowns.
Based on the logic of the woman collecting the bike, she could also have stopped and parked in the lane she drove there in and the cars could all go round her. In that instance the police would do her for obstruction, but when it comes to a lane set aside for bicycles all of a sudden it is ignored and motorists are allowed to get away with it, double standards.
Your approach to getting them out of the bike lane is so good in this one. Effective, very good politically (not making drivers hate bikers). This should be the featured film of your channel i think!
You should check with a lawyer... They should only be able to sue you if you cause actual damage the car. Otherwise, the most they could possibly sue you for is the amount that they would have to pay to remove the sticker and most people remove the sticker themselves which means it cost no money and caused no actual damage. Not to mention the fact that by suing you they would have to stand in court and admit to committing a traffic violation. Also, do you really think that someone is going to waste their whole day in court because they had to remove a sticker from their car? I'd contact a lawyer to get advice or post a comment requesting someone to contact you with advice and possible representation as I'm sure there are a lot of lawyers that bike and would love to represent your cause!
people don't make sense when they are confronted, even politely. a guy once told me that "lines on a road are irrelevant" when he cut me off. please also see my channel, i'm trying to help educate, but its incredibly difficult to spread the word
good job guys! you have to pass the message that going around cars is dangerous, it could get someone killed :x (and perhaps even more important, you need to pressure the people in charge to get the bikelanes out of that position, it's so dangerous to bike that close to parked cars, if there is someone inside and they open the door without looking you will be pushed into traffic
there is an app that you can get in some city's not available in all but you can fill out on your phone the incident that report goes to local police and then a ticket is issued from their after the report reviewed. you are required to speak up and say something So if you witness something and a cop does not do anything and ignore it then you can speak up. .
Here's the thing about the SFPD when it comes to bikes, they will say one thing and then do something completely different when it comes to literally ALL bikes. When things changed on Market between 8th St and 3rd for the cars not to turn onto Market between those streets, the SFMTA (a division of the SFPD), was out there for about a week and then left, and there were cars turning onto Market from streets that they weren't allowed to turn from. Half a year after that law went into effect for Market St, it was only then that the SFMTA came back and started to enforce it again, the problem was, but by then people were already thinking that the police weren't going to do anything other than just make sure that they didn't turn onto Market. Only in one location on Market were the SFPD issuing tickets for people turning onto Market from where they weren't supposed to be in the first place. Beyond that, the SFPD will readily issue tickets to bikers at the drop of a hat for doing anything they feel is against the law. This is how the SFPD works, doesn't matter if there's a new police chief, the SFPD doesn't care about bikers, and the mayor doesn't either.
That thing is awful! But funny. Actually, something like that could make an OTB crash worse than it needs to be, because it will stick to the pavement rather than slide.
4:50 - Suddenly I want some corn with mayonnaise, chile powder, and parmesan cheese. You guys do good work, and you're much more polite than most. Personally, I don't have too much of a problem with cars in bike lanes, but that's because the drivers here don't have a problem with me riding in the "car" lanes. They're usually courteous and they let me pass just fine. Traffic where you are is much worse than traffic where I am, though, so it's good you make people aware of the danger.
You guys should check out all along Polk Street and the Waterfront, that's a hell and a half! also, what horns n such are you using? been looking for something better than just a basic bell.
Clear violation = ticket written. If not willing to as a cop then this cop needs to find a new profession. Blocking a lane should be a automatic ticket especially when the vechile is left unattended
Jason Crandall remember that the next time if a cop doesn't want to give you a ticket and lets you off with a warning to insist that he give you the ticket because him not giving you the ticket isn't enforcing the law.👍
So you are comparing giving a warning to someone speeding 5-10mph over a vechile blatantly blocking a lane specifically for a bicyclist to safely get around a public street. That bicyclist has to then either enter a lane dedicated to a vechile. Who is less safe when that happens? Who would win in a collision? If some uncaring vechile driver blocks a bike lane it is no longer a issue of a "warning" for going 5mph over but a safety issue. I do not block a bike lane because of this reason
Jason Crandall im gonna take a guess that you dont own a motorcycle bcuz lane splitting is a normal and pretty much the samething. Jus be aware of your surroundings. What's the point of having mirrors
Thing that's a catch 22 in the city is that cabs aren't allowed to park in the bike lane to pick people up, and yet on the back bumper of the car, it says (and provides the city code for it too) that they're allowed into the bike lane to stop and pick up passengers. How the hell does that work? (and it doesn't matter how long they're there for, they're not allowed in that lane under city law.)
"If everybody does it" sounds like a swell time to have a group of people grab drivers who park where they shouldn't and throw them into the bay. then reply with " well if everybody does it"
Sometimes it's hard not to scream. It's frustrating to recieve harrassment all the time from people who THINK they know what the laws are but are actually ignorant to them. That frustration builds up sometimes. Someone may say something simple to me and I get pissed and scream or some other response that's not cool. But they are like the 5th person to say something and I'm within the law and just trying to get to work. Like leave me alone already. And don't get me started on when someone puts my safety at risk.
Mostly it's drivers of SUVs and pickups that scream, oftentimes while they pass you way too close. Like, "get off *my* road" or "what the f** are you doing" etc. As if you are the problem and not they. And then you see these guys - yes, typically guys - run the next red light, power through the next stop sign, or use the bike-lane as a means to bypass slow traffic. I know it's three years late but there are still plenty of bad apples on the road.
I really don't know how you remain so calm. I would NOT be a good person for this job. My approach is " Get the Fk out of the lane NOW. " Probably would land me in the hospital at some point. 😂
I tend to go more incognito when I report drivers. I just take a picture and call the parking authority. Then, I leave the scene because I don't feel like potentially getting into an argument with a Philly driver :/ .
Cyclists wanted a safe area to get about. Cycle lanes was introduced ( some time ago) & it seems now that some motorists stop , park or block it. ( I.e. Loading or unloading ) Some will be nice about it & move to a much safer place to allow the cyclist to carry on with the journey safely. But, some take absolutely no notice of moving this can cause accidents to the cyclist. The law should be firm about these lanes designed for cyclists NOT!!! for motorists & that goes for EVERY COUNTRY that has them. Maybe have them monitored efficiently .As probably very few are nearly none. This can be a hazard to the cyclists. I know resources & so called financial is used as excuse. But, there has to be some way of stopping offending motorists from abusing the cycle lanes more effectively!
Unless the police starts enforcing the 'free bike lane' you won't have tremendous success. In the meantime, a hefty fine would help ! Protected bike lanes don't suffer from this behaviour. Example: th-cam.com/video/mk0hdb-GhZc/w-d-xo.html Cars can park, just not in the bike lane. Notice there are only a few signs, and little paint is used.
What might be effective is to take out a full-page ad once a month in the local newspaper with pictures of all these jerks and a link to the video of them kind of like the police blotter that is published in the paper. There's no expectation of privacy in public and it's legal to film people and their actions in public and publish it.
I can't tell you how dumb they are here! Either they get their license out of a cereal box or they're unlicensed! Our country has gone way down hill, how's england?
London is so congested now and so many people have cars . Traffic all the time but our mayor has increased funding to install more segregated lanes . It has cost over 100 million and he is putting another 25 million yearly to add more lanes . We also have independent traffic lights for us . However it all sounds great but so far I have seen a taxi park in the segregated lane, a coach drive down one oh and get this some asshole riding his bloody motorbike at well over 30mph down the lane . Seriously they need to raise the height of the curb I think . Tbh I was kind of expecting this . Without proper enforcement drivers are free to do what they want .
I feel terrible that you have to deal with this, but again, this is crappy cycling infrastructure that is very dangerous! On top of that you are always having to confront people to move. Obviously, this design is an after thought. Brutal!
You need to employ the same tactics as the Russian site "StopXam Msc" (stop a douchebag civic movement) - place a big fat sticker on the passenger side of the windscreen.
Good idea, to bring the SAD to other parts of the world. But do as them, if you want to act like them. Give people a 2-3 minute chance to move, don't get triggered instantly.
Cars in bike lanes are a different kind of problem here. On Valencia St. especially, most cars will park just for a minute or two. But in that time, they are inconveniencing and endangering dozens of cyclists. So it is important to confront them and ask them to move even if they've only just entered the bike lane.
I don't have a huge amount of sympathy for the bike folks,BUT, if they wanted results, they would get stickers like the Russian "Stop A Douchebag" guys. I guarantee nobody would do it more than once. If you haven't seen their vids, check them out.
do you expect people to jump out of moving vehicles when getting dropped off or being picked up? why don't you become a meter maid if your so passionate about this?
azfitness I think it's more about the attitude that has to change that it's not okay to completely block a bike path. If you really have to stop. Stand in the cars lane and don't block the bikes.
where are uber drivers/food delivery drivers suppose to park when there is rarely parking available? these are people making next to nothing trying to get by that you are ticketing, for a minor inconvenience during a short time period to you? pretty sad dude, check your ego
Don't complain the sfpd officer didn't give her a ticket, that's par for the course in San Francisco. Laws are optional, like illegals getting sanctuary.
same laws apply in USA as in Russia. As long as you don't damage a car you can stick a sticker as a form of protest of a lawbreaker. Watch stop a douchbag of Russian protesters.
People always have SO MUCH time to argue, but never have time to think or move or accept they are wrong.
What makes people think hazard blinkers are "park anywhere lights"? They just park in the worst places and abandon their vehicles in traffic lanes.
In Belgium you sometimes get an additional ticket for 'inproper use of hazard lights' alongside the incorrect parking ticket. Doesn't happen as often as I'd like though.
I specially hate it because I can never know if a car is signaling left to exit or just has hazards on.
That’s a thing I would donate for. We need people like you you do a amazing job.
I think for this they kind of need officers on bikes
yeah... I don't know if there's a good solution for that, because in some places where there are bike lanes, there isn't enough demand for parking for cops to stop and give tickets, but there is enough for regular people to park, and so it is also dense enough to need a bike lane.. Come to Cape Town, your hooter battery will be flat in no time 🤣 love the videos
I would've stopped in front of the police car with my bike and told them it's just for 5 minutes need to catch my breath.
My time is too important to stop like that. Glad you guys are doing it for me.
Your approach to getting them out of the bike lane is so good in this one. Effective, very good politically (not making drivers hate bikers). This should be the featured film of your channel i think!
You guys need some big stickers like Stop a Douchebag.
Can't. We'll get sued. This is the USA, after all.
What about attaching scary machine guns to your handlebar? That should be ok in the US?
You should check with a lawyer... They should only be able to sue you if you cause actual damage the car. Otherwise, the most they could possibly sue you for is the amount that they would have to pay to remove the sticker and most people remove the sticker themselves which means it cost no money and caused no actual damage. I carry a roll of those with me when biking
Funny that this is a thing in SF. I've had parking tickets that seemingly appear via magic for the half minute I'm not looking at my vehicle.
feel intimidated but yet she comes up to you? What? her logic is so off.
Classic passive aggressive tactic - because couldn't accept she was in wrong
people don't make sense when they are confronted, even politely. a guy once told me that "lines on a road are irrelevant" when he cut me off. please also see my channel, i'm trying to help educate, but its incredibly difficult to spread the word
Stop a Douchebag brought me here. Im glad there are movements like them in the states now.
This is not Russia... Do a stop a Douchebag in the USA and put a sticker on a car will you shot Dead!
I would just like to categorically state that I am not advocating the application of a bit of axle grease on the inside of the doorhandle.
good job guys!
you have to pass the message that going around cars is dangerous, it could get someone killed :x
(and perhaps even more important, you need to pressure the people in charge to get the bikelanes out of that position, it's so dangerous to bike that close to parked cars, if there is someone inside and they open the door without looking you will be pushed into traffic
In Europe we have the same problem, but not with cars, with pedestrians. Bike paths are usually constructed as part of sidewalks.
Where have you gone ??
there is an app that you can get in some city's not available in all but you can fill out on your phone the incident that report goes to local police and then a ticket is issued from their after the report reviewed. you are required to speak up and say something So if you witness something and a cop does not do anything and ignore it then you can speak up. .
Why are there parking space markings in the bike lane.
Eric Rand that's what I'm trying to figure out
They are just extensions of the lines so the motorists can line up for the spot easier as they pull across the bike lane
Good someone who actually rides in the bike lane👍👍👍👍👍👍
F1WJSay2om i was shocked when I saw the video
What happen to this great group of people. No new videos

1:55 what's the story behind this "Helmet RAT" ? :-)
That thing is awful! But funny. Actually, something like that could make an OTB crash worse than it needs to be, because it will stick to the pavement rather than slide.
what type of bike horn is this guy's using?
these videos are so important. thank you!

Keep going
The woman at 4:20 I ride a bike bullshit lol
I love the contagious nature public shaming for the little crimes the police don't have time for go stb
How about using megaphones and very loud horns?
You guys should check out all along Polk Street and the Waterfront, that's a hell and a half! also, what horns n such are you using? been looking for something better than just a basic bell.
In Winnipeg, there's a painted bike lane on the right side of the street. Can you guess where all the drivers park? Yup, in the bike lane!
He just told her it was okay to block the drive way.... wtf?!!!!
WTF?? Cop does nothing? I thought the city needed revenue...
Cops don't want to work unless they can bully. They don't want to enforce the law unless they make it up.
Clear violation = ticket written.
If not willing to as a cop then this cop needs to find a new profession. Blocking a lane should be a automatic ticket especially when the vechile is left unattended

"If everybody does it" sounds like a swell time to have a group of people grab drivers who park where they shouldn't and throw them into the bay. then reply with " well if everybody does it"
Time to invest in stickers , only way to teach them a lesson.
Use huge stickers
Can't. We'll get sued. This is the USA, after all.
A lot of people seem to think it's the double park lane because they believe they have a right to trap other cars.
It’s good you educate people instead of just screaming at them. I’ve had some bad experiences with cyclists but this restores my hope a little.
Sometimes it's hard not to scream. It's frustrating to recieve harrassment all the time from people who THINK they know what the laws are but are actually ignorant to them. That frustration builds up sometimes. Someone may say something simple to me and I get pissed and scream or some other response that's not cool. Not only do the block bikers and force them into traffic, they block other cars too. And still they don't see anything wrong with that. Some people...
City should have bike cops with a camera and fat ticket book.
No One Has Ever Been Treated So Unfairly! Drivers First! Drivers First! Make Drivers Great Again! Never Surrender!
I really don't know how you remain so calm. I would NOT be a good person for this job.
My approach is " Get the Fk out of the lane NOW. " Probably would land me in the hospital at some point. 😂
You guys do a great job.The hypocrisy of the woman at 3.08 has no limits.
Seriously 😒 why suggest blocking a driveway?
I feel very intimate by you but still stands there talking to you
Most of these people are using the "I can park anywhere flashing lights" so they're good.
great job although Valencia is in Spain, this must be the USA copy...
You guys should file a disciplinary complaint
There isna story called The Pied Piper. People need to read it.
If these drivers want to live and work in the city, they need to respect the laws of the city.
2 wheels better than 4
I never new bike lanes were for parking your car in so that you could pick up your bicycle. 3:09
You will never stop cars from going into cycle lanes until they start to prosecute the offending cars with fines the word soon gets around
Isn't this a video about cars parking in dedicated bike lanes? So why are you talking about motorcycles?
I tend to go more incognito when I report drivers. I just take a picture and call the parking authority. Then, I leave the scene because I don't feel like potentially getting into an argument with a Philly driver :/ .
Good work towards educating these dangerous, toxins emitting, entitled, selfish motorists who see cyclists as a soft touch and inconsequential.
Thank you for reminding me why I HATE San Francisco
Not all heroes wear capes
I like the lady who said I am a biker myself. Well then u should know better. Plus you need your vehicle towed
Cyclists wanted a safe area to get about. Cycle lanes was introduced ( some time ago) & it seems now that some motorists stop , park or block it. ( I.e. I don't understand why law enforcement will not enforce the law
Unless the police starts enforcing the 'free bike lane' you won't have tremendous success.
In the meantime, a hefty fine would help !
Protected bike lanes don't suffer from this behaviour.
Example: th-cam.com/video/mk0hdb-GhZc/w-d-xo.html
Cars can park, just not in the bike lane. Notice there are only a few signs, and little paint is used.
lol you guys are SO nice, I would not be, to say the least...
What might be effective is to take out a full-page ad once a month in the local newspaper with pictures of all these jerks and a link to the video of them kind of like the police blotter that is published in the paper. There's no expectation of privacy in public and it's legal to film people and their actions in public and publish it.
Cars parked in bike lanes cause an unnecessary interaction between bikes and cars..
You live in California. The level of police not doing their jobs should not surprise you.
Pensei que somente no Brasil existiam tantas pessoas sem educação e sem respeito com o próximo.
Serious question - are drivers actually dumb in your country ?!!!
Seb K very, I deal with them everyday!
Man I feel bad for you . We have our fare share of morons here in London though to be fair ....especially taxi drivers !!!

They're not improving it here, all the senate cares about is profit, the U.S has gone down hill
You may meet your match one day ..you should travel in groups of two or three in case this happens
if they don't move call tow truck.
That was in 2016. now its almost 2019 people now have more guns if you stop and ask "please don't park in bike lane" 1:50
@Bjorn Arnesen why 3 years late with comment
no car weighs 2000lbs
This is hell, what the F... I love my country.
I feel intimidated, that's why I just walked over to you and asked you for your name......
Glad to see the cops are at least trying to get these people to behave.
I bet they wouldn't do it if that ticket was about 500 bucks!
you guys have so much free time to harass busy people in their cars
U can’t film people and post it on TH-cam without there permission it is illegal
Try again. It is not illegal as you claim. As a matter of fact, it's a Constitutionally protected activity.
I would pass them on the left, just to take the piss.
Officer did nothing
You dont bike much in the US do you?🤣
That's a bullshit dangerous bike lane any way. Stay out of it. Use the general use lane and use control and release. Cycling Savvy
Wheres the Guardian Angels ? I thought they look after everybody in NY.
Good idea, to bring the SAD to other parts of the world. But do as them, if you want to act like them. Give people a 2-3 minute chance to move, don't get triggered instantly.

Thanks! Happy to help in what little way we can.

just go around lol
She's double parked...in any case .
She swearing...Um she should know better..
Go non violent protest
4000 lb vehicle
do you expect people to jump out of moving vehicles when getting dropped off or being picked up? why don't you become a meter maid if your so passionate about this?

bullshit they should know get off the bike lane
Damm bike lane as hell why they cant go around for sec stop be lazy people
Same goes to you drivers who complain to us cyclists who have every right to ride our bike on the road, idiot.
