I imagine Tchaikovsky wrote this with a giggle thinking "NOBODY is gonna be able to play this!" And then along comes Martha.

Funny enough, this is one of the easier piano concertos one could play.
Tchaikovsky never set himself the task of stunning the listener and puzzle the performer with the most complex passages and heaps of chords. All these external effects serve only as a means of expressing the artistic intention.

She is unreal. Almost not human. How is it possible to be so amazing at the piano.
Martha is great no doubt BUT so is Yuja Wang just as good. Who is better ? It be close, I'd hate to have to live on the difference.
@@Etnalleb I am sorry to jump in but Yuja is not at the same level of Martha Argerich. Yuja and many other pianists possess amazing skills but simply can not compare to Martha for emotional input in her pieces. - Martha has something trascendental-
@@francescoelia.marino We all have our favorites , I've watched Martha and Yuja do this same piece maybe ten times at least and Martha seems to play with more intensity and direct power. She almost has a masculinity in her style whereas Yuja moves more fluidly , she's faster and more nimble with a silky smooth softer approach but she can be just as intense as Martha. So, like I said they are both fantastic but I probably would give the edge to Yuja.
@@Etnalleb yes we all have favorites but also possibly 90% or piano experts would agree that Martha is not comparable to any other current living pianists based on what I have heard and seen other pianist saying - but at the end of the day is all about what someone can communicate -
@@francescoelia.marino Exactly ! Isn't Communication the Number 1 essential in life? I love them both but to me Yuja communicates a more softer, gentler comfort which relaxes me so much more than the aggressive , power intensity Martha puts forth but then again Martha has that infallible playing that she's so sure of herself she can't make a mistake and I really like that. I've heard other pianists saying Yuja as good as Martha as well. I'd say 90% saying Martha is better is quite a stretch from reality.

@@pong336 yes they do. Orchestra goes with the tempo of the pianist. Conductor has to accept it. We all know that Martha is a fast player. Some like it, some don‘t. But the one‘s who don‘t like it can‘t deny her legacy and talent. She IS the best pianist of our time.

Yes, Martha is without doubt one of the greatest pianists the World has ever know but there is a Chinese girl from Beijing her name " Yuja Wang". I was told she replaced Martha as Martha canceled and the audience was not disappointed, Yuja more than filled the bill.

I think, lowkey, this is my favorite classical piece of all time. Idk what it is, but every time I listen to it, or it comes on randomly on my playlist, I have to let it play until the end.
And I mean, melodically speaking, it's safe to say, there are many more pieces more "beautiful" or at least considered more beautiful than this one...for example, Debussy's Claire De Lune or idk, Satie's Gnossiennes, or practically anything by Chopin, but for me THIS has something that just constantly captivates me. It's gorgeous.

"Too many notes" LOL!
for the volume-there's probably 1/2 doz each playing in unison.
It's actually to maintain a balance. Higher notes cut through mid range lower notes without even trying. It's why there is only one Piccolo in an orchestra, then some smaller number of flutes, then a bit more wood winds. Instruments lower-than-normal Wood Winds tend to be also more powerful by Design so you starts to see a somewhat smaller number of you will wear a powerful brass instruments and lower powerful percussion instruments like timpani..
you'd never hear a single violin ;-)
