  • The K13 Pro is a low profile mechanical keyboard with a compact 80% layout and a number pad and QMK/VIA compatibility. It's a good option for someone who needs the numpad but also wants a portable keyboard.

    I use a number pad frequently at work, but solely for typing in identification numbers for user profiles, so this is perfect.

    I love that Keychron offers such a variety of layouts, they really cater to everybody. With that said this is truly one of the layouts I get the least. When I use a numpad it's usually in a context of excel/data entry/doing math, so having the classic "calculator-style" numpad layout with all the math keys and an enter is kinda important. If I'm gonna move my hand every time I need to hit a plus or minus, I might as well just use the number row. But to each their own, I happen to be one of the freaks who can't stand a non-split keyboard, so the K15 Pro is the one for me.

    Thanks, enjoyed the review. I enjoy my K13 Pro. My 6th Keychron keyboard and my only K series, so far. I purchased it primarily to use with my iPad Pro, but find that I like rotating my keyboards every few weeks as I enjoy them all. Love the size of the K13, typing feel is great, and you hit the nail on the head ... nice being able to configure it and have the same functionality when away from my home office. Thanks again.

      I have a strange bug with my K13 Pro, wondering if this is a factory fault or just mine in particular. Do you mind trying out wireless mode, no cable attached and then hitting right arrow key in youtube? Does it skip 5 seconds or does only the right key not work at all? If I press left arrow key and quickly after that right arrow key it works again...

    I have the K3 Pro today, it's pretty much everything I want in a keyboard - except the numpad, so this looks like pure perfection.

    I'm wondering how it's sound compares to the K3 Pro or the K3 V2 cause that last one was way more silent, which I liked more. Do you have an idea about that? Thx anyway^^

    The biggest thing holding keychron back is the lack of 2.4 connection that is good enough for gaming. If it had wireless that was good enough for gaming then keychron would hands down win the keyboard market

    • @JoshuaKnab
      @JoshuaKnab 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Their newer keyboards have 2.4 with 1000Hz polling rate. I was under the assumption that this is good for gaming.

      The K3 Max has 2.4 GHz. Would you not consider that good enough for gaming?

    It looks like the ISO version (Keychron K13 Pro QMK/VIA Wireless Custom Mechanical Keyboard ISO Layout Collection) has shine-through backlight though, right?

  • @BrianHartman

    I have the K2 v2. I bought it a few days ago. I wasn't even aware that they went all the way up to 13. :)
    I have to say, though, that I'm not impressed by that lighting. What's the point of having lighting if it doesn't help you see the actual keys? I don't really like the low profile configuration, either. That looks super fragile. If you drop the board, I imagine some of those keycaps are going to go flying.

    I thought this was the perfect keyboard for me, but I didnt know the air96 existed! with the air96 v2 coming out (which also has qmk/via) which one would you choose?

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personally I would take the Air96 V2 because it adds a 1000Hz 2.4GHz wireless option in addition to bluetooth and the battery life is a bit better as well. The number pad is also more of a traditional layout.

    Most numpads have pg up/dn, home and end as secondary functions. I wish they would have had them printed on the numpad key caps here.

    Does K13 PRO more silent with these brown switches than your Nuphy Air with Wisteria switches (if you tried) ?

    • @DigitalJedi
      @DigitalJedi 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm actually typing this on the exact board you're talking about. I have the Air96 with wisteria switches and their black shine-through ABS keycaps. It's taking over for an MX Mechanical which also has the brown switches, but a different construction so the sound is different. I almost bought the K13, but the odd spacing of the top row of the numpad and lack of math operator keys put me off along with the lack of page-up, page-down, and home/end.
      Overall I'd say the Air96 has a similar volume to what I'm hearing in the video, but sounds a bit deeper. The PBT keycaps that came pre-installed are slightly quieter and noticeably heavier sounding. Not really a lower pitch than the ABS, but it sounds like there's more mass moving with them.
      The wisteria switches feel similar to the browns in terms of force, but are smoother. I'd say they're splitting the difference between linear and tactile. It's a linear switch that happens to have a little feeling to it if that makes sense, while the browns a more pronounced bump. I should note that if you prefer the bigger bump in the browns, you can get an Air96 with them as well and it will probably sound almost exactly the same, maybe a bit deeper.

    I am having a hard time with my num pad. I bought this keyboard brand new, and the num pad only works when I enter my PIN into windows. Once I am in windows, the num pad acts like arrow keys. Keychron customer support has been less than helpful. I tried to flash the firmware but no luck there. Is there a toggle somewhere or a combination of keys to enable the num pad? I cannot find anything on this anywhere!

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have heard of this happening on windows for some users - I believe if you activate num lock it will start working, but the K13 Pro doesn't have a dedicated num lock key programmed. You have two options: you can use VIA to program one of your keys to be num lock, or you can bring up the windows on-screen keyboard and just click the num lock key on there and it should make your num pad work. The on-screen keyboard is in your Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard menu.

      @@semiprotech thank you so much, I was able to get it programmed in the VIA program! I appreciate your help :)

    The weirdest thing I see about all these kayboards (aside from the CapsLock key) is Delete key. Why would you need that, as a separate key nontheless, when you already have the Backspace? and also positioned right near the BS. I don't get it. I would much prefer to have both CapsLock and Del keys do something meningful instead of wasting space on the keyboard. But the companies these days tend to do all the silly stuff like misplacing the Home\End pair of keys or mangling the right shift, but they refuse to touch these holy cows CapsLock and Del.

    • @jellycatdgaf
      @jellycatdgaf 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Delete is quicker for deleting just the content when working on a spreadsheet; backspace will trigger to ask you delete the cells/rows/columns you selected.

    • @atomotron
      @atomotron 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jellycatdgaf okay, that is one very niche use-case. Does Command + BS help, or maybe Shift + BS? I'm sorry, I haven't worked with spreadsheets, like, forever, the last time I remember doing this is when I was in high school, so I don't really remember which key does what.

    • @motif5775
      @motif5775 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @memodump Ctrl BS deletes entire word from last letter to first letter. Ctrl DEL deletes entire word from first letter to last letter. I think we can do without the second alt key.

    Why does no keyboard like the one I want exist!? I thought it would be what a ton of people wanted! This one is close but super expensive. Why didn't they fill those two spaces with two keys?! It has no print screen! I guess I can map that. And I did read that the home etc still works but without it being named on the keys, for some stupid reason, it'll be hard to remember them by numbers. And it seems really hard to buy keycaps... It's still too rall, not ULTRA slim at all.
