Often women in poverty have unhealthy eating habits - there was a lot of sugary beverages shown. It's a systemic problem. Given a choice between a half gallon of 100% juice that can cost upwards of $5 versus a bottle of soda for 99 cents or a can of drink mix that can make 100 servings - you know which one wins. Yes, water from the tap is (sort of) free but who wants to drink that all the time? Or skinless chicken breasts versus a pack of hot dogs. I can't judge her for trying to care for her family.

I been living in poverty 15 yrs. I don't have what she does! My bedroom is an enclosed porch-15×5ft. I pay 90% of the rent. My housemates- 38yrs younger, have 3 kids. I haven't owned a vehicle in 10yrs. I have to use public transit ti get my food. Walk down 2 steep hills then up 18 steps to the trolley platform. The easy part. Returning with an average weight of 30lbs. I use a backpack and 2 reusable carry bags. I'm 66, on disability- arthritis, neuropathy, fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, herniated dics, Raynauds syndrome. I sought help from state agencies. I do get food stamps. Ride free on public transit. And I go broke every month.
She has since gotten a stimulus for all the kids, hopefully she uses it to buy a used vehicle so at least the older sons can get jobs and contribute !!,,
It's not that easy as just buying a car, you need to pay for car insurance, registering the car, getting your license if you don't already have it which takes close to a year because you have to practice for 6 months before you can even make an appointment to take the driving test. It's alot and not everyone understands that. There is plenty of public transportation in Atlantic, I live in one of the surrounding towns. There's public transportation all over so a car isn't their first priority trust me. And most places Are walking distance so finding a job for him shouldn't be an issue.

Her life clearly isn't easy, but there are people with even less, without homes and an income, surviving on handouts and charity donations. Be thankful for what you have as there's always someone worse off. I have a good life and need for nothing and I try to help those less fortunate whenever I can. When no one else is there you can always count in mama, without a doubt. And god save the man that ever, and I mean ever, tries to get funny with that little girl! Believe me I grew up with one brother, myself as the oldest brother and 1 little sister and she grew up tough as nails. We always watched out for each other, but being in the house with 2 big rough housing boys rubbed off on her. That little one reminds me of her no ones gonna be getting over on her trust me she’s got the same look, and when all else fails the brothers step in. God bless this family, and this mother for keeping them together in a family setting regardless of the struggle.
I had triplets naturally and I feel THIS. I was fortunate that I was in the Army at the time. It was $1.5 million for the medical bills. A civilian had a set of triplets also fairly close to me , her the insurance only paid a little and they were on the hook for $800k. We are middle class, we do not have offshore accounts. It would take many lifetimes to pay that back for the average person
I could help her budget just based on some of the items she purchased. Those Lipton tea mixes (3 of them) cost her $24.27 total. She can't afford to purchase that item. She can buy a large box of tea bags and make sweet tea in a large pitcher, for example. Shoprite is too expensive, IMO. Maybe there's an Aldi or Lidl near her that she can take the bus to. They're WAY cheaper and maybe she can pay for fare to get home with the money she saves. She needs to utilize food banks as well. All adults need to contribute to the household if they don't already. Convenience and pre-made food always costs more. For example, don't buy pre-made burgers, they're not good quality and cost more. Just buy ground beef and make them yourself.
How did she end up with 6 children? It is absolutely incompetent reporting not to give us this information at the beginning of the report than making us wait until 2 minutes into the report. America needs a reset---why are people having children (her own 3--and then the father is allowed to skip on his responsibilities) OR why do people elect to have children that they have no economic plan for?

She should be making $1200 in food stamps a month! Plus with the adoption money. She actually has it nice. She has a home that is paid for. Only has to pay utility bills and maybe taxes. I've been watching some old Super Nanny videos . At least her children seem well behaved and seem to respect her and their sibling . Some of the more middle class children on Super nanny Seem to be less respectful of their parents and more entitled. Being a retired teacher I have found the above to be correct , from my experience. So this is like the third documentary I've watched recently on "poverty in America." Does anyone see a pattern here?? I mean c'mon this is ridiculous. Poverty in America isn't caused by lack of money. It is caused by unfortunate circumstances such as disability or poor life choices. To those suggesting her grown son should get a job, why should he? Jobs are for other people and suckers. He hasn't grown up in a house with adults who work. America launched The Great Society and War On Poverty in the mid 60's. It incetivized woman having children out of wedlock. They got housing, foodstamps, help with utilities etc.

So this is like the third documentary I've watched recently on "poverty in America." Does anyone see a pattern here?? I mean c'mon this is ridiculous. These women keep having all these babies with men who don't help raise them. Solution - stop having sex with deadbeat men. Also, as she says some of those kids are grown, and some aren't hers. The ones that are grown need to get a damn job and bring money into the house....the parents of the other kids need to contribute to the situation...my guess is they are in prison or something....there has to be something we are not being told about the situation. Her sister's kids needed to go to foster care if that is the case. I, as a responsible taxpayer do not feel responsible at all for paying for peoples bad life decisions...
