Hello Richard thanks for sharing this hidden gem, tucked away in the shorpshire countryside. We had a good wander around here as well, wonderful old red brick ruin. Have a nice day Beth and Simon ❤️ 👍
Wow, thank you so much - lovely to see it. I remember a picture of it from an old geography book I had as a child. Always wanted to see more; alas I haven't got to see it in person (yet) so this is the next best thing!
Ive just got back from a short holiday and coming back to a weeks worth of your walks is like finding your channel all over again, I shall have an enjoyable couple of days catching up :)
Thank you very much for filming this! I've been trying to learn all I can about my ancestral home. I liked how you mentioned the Norman archway, I traced my ancestry all the way to Normandy until my ancestor came with William the Conquerorr in 1066.
I too immediately thought about internal privvy and the reason being because I seem to remember they had those at Arundel as well.... And by privvy I mean a chute for emptying the chamber pot.
Maybe the flue you said about is actually a waste drop for an internal lavatory ? Also the bit at the end where you run away to no prevail did make me chuckle 👍🏻
sam Brazier Hi Sam. I think you are right about the waste drop. I was a little foxed because a flue wouldn't be open like that. Glad I made you chuckle!
Well here I thought I had gone through all the Shropshire vids then this popped up in my "suggested for you" box tonight!!🤔 Now I am gonna have to study Acton Burnell to see if I have any family connections their too!!!😁 Now look what ya gone done?!?!😏😄😉
Impressive building indeed. Don't feel like you have to get lots of history in this walks , it's all Greek to many of us. Personally it was more interesting to me to see the flue (although I think it could've been something else) than to hear if Henry VIII, IX or X built the house.
Great video Richard. I used to visit Acton Burnell Castle a few times when I liked in the area.

Thanks Patti for checking it out - you must have seen t he lot by now! :) Aren't you exhausted?
It was cool to watch this because it's a part of my family history
I am descended from the House of Acton Burnell. I will see this part of my heritage one day.
Same here.
You certainly get around a bit, Richard. It's good to see so many places that I have missed on my own travels, this being one.
Thanks Andy - yes a great place to check out and never busy!
Great video and nice to see Harriet and Lola too!
Mark Webb It takes a bit of persuading to get Harriet to appear.
Excellent Richard. Sting Spider loves your history walks and has just ordered three pairs of pointed medieval shoes !
Hahahahah - good for Sting Spider - hope he likes his new shoes!
Well done for finding a gap in the weather - interesting to hear about the first English parliament - thanks.
Dreadful weather today - but not bad then! :) Hope you had a good one?

Robert Reed Yes Robert. It is that. I seem to switch off my brain when I switch on the camera.
