I've got a 29 gallon "show tank" 2 5.5 gallon breeders - sunset micriff and tequila sunrise 4 1.5 gallon fry/ breeding pair tank 1 10 gallon for my male and female veil tail Betas.
I plan on creating my own strain as well! I am working on perfecting a marbled guppy! It is not as easy as it seems a ton of selective breeding. Platinum with a trio coloured guppy i worked on. He is a third white black and the fins are an electric blue! Cant wait to perfect these little guys
I have already done one with a regular guppy female and a male cobra guppy might put some long finned guppies so that becomes a dominant trait with the cobra body and flame fin
How is your strain doing now? When I was a child, I had my own guppy strain that came from crossing wild guppies & store bought fancy tails. Their tails were not as long & beautiful, but they had some interesting stripes & dots normally only seen in wild fish. As an adult I wanted to do something more fancy, so I tried some swordtails, but they were really aggressive, and I tried some mollies, but they seem to get sick a lot in pure fresh water w/out any salt added....... so, now I am thinking about going back to guppies - I've come full circle LOL :)
I'm going back and looking at all of your videos, and might I say, you are much smarter than I am. If I ever get close to running out of room for the fish I want, I just go out and buy more tanks. At the moment I have 17 aquariums, and two terrariums.... most of which are not in use at the moment because I was going to move, but didn't in the end. With all/most of my 10's I hope to create some sort of breeder system. Maybe for freshwater, but I am leaning towards a saltwater system. We'll see...

While ago and got a male and a female guppy both looking similar to your dragon ones and now I have a strain of yellow with black dots, a strain I called silver streak because of the silver color that runs in a thin line on them and they have really long tails and dorsal fins that look like flames and then a few other kinds and I am now looking to make orange guppies or possibly expanding on a guppy that ended up having a pink tint.
CJ1013 I don't cull my fry, however if you do there's no time limit. most of the time it's survival of the fittest, all of my deformed fry eventually died naturally without my intervention and before they reached sexual maturity.
Sir, I have some black moscows, and a friend of mine gaved me the only Female Ribbon Swallow black moscow He have. I'm planning to make alot of Ribbon Swallow BM w/ the female He gaved me. Should I do the same steps as this video shows?, I'm new w/ this. xD
How will you ensure the fish don't breed in the main tank and they are "virgin" females? Sorry got a bit confused with that bit, trying to work a system myself.

It may take a while and be careful as certain strains can ruin others especially mixing strains with certain patterns if you mix many strains with mosaic as an example it will wash out the mosaic pattern but besides that I wish you good luck!

I know this is 2 years old but thank you. I came across some really beautiful young females and a gorgeous iridescent Sunset looking spoon tailed male I guess is what he would be. If I could post a pic I would. I too would start my own strain of guppies. They are really popular where I live and if I can support my local pet store in any fashion than I will. The transportation time for them is a half hour that is it. The other guppies they sell it takes 24-36 hours for them to get them. A lot can happen in the time. Plus I do not power grow my fish or snails. I'm a snail breeder too.

They would become gravid about once a month after they reached breeding age. Maybe we could average a healthy brood every month and have those starting a new breeding cycle after 3 months (and every three mo. there after a new group would start). I would believe over a two year period, one could drill down the genes they are wanting to accentuate. Hmmm, I may have to buy a few more tanks - 😊

Where did you get those little boxes you have the fry in? do you keep your fry in there while they are smaill. Do they require airstones and heaters?

How long do you wait to cull out the bad guppies? I have some fry that are about a month old and I see some of them with bent spines.

I never thought of using needle point canvas in my breeder tank, thank you for the idea. What kind of fry box are you using? I have my own strain.

Geoff Saunderson easy, pretty much collect the female fry (when they are old enough of course) and moving them to the female tank
