The last time I ran an aquarium was as a 12 years boy thirty years ago. I came across this channel by accident a few months ago and I'm building my new aquarium again. Natrual aquarium this time! Thanks to you Father Fish ;)
@@rara5212I’ve had green emerald Cory cats lay clutches in my dirt tanks. The only thing I’m doing differently than FatherFish is I add CO2 with a bell system. That should have nothing to do with the Cory’s I don’t believe.
@@firstclassfish01 exactly 💯 my most recent short is a video of it. I just started using it a few days ago. My plants start pearling a hour and some change sooner than before. If it’s going to make a difference in growth rates, time will tell.
I'm the adult perpetual 12 yo who LOVES fish. I enjoyed this video!! Guppies are one of my FAVORITE fish. I have been studying them for years now and am still learning. Some important tips when it comes to breeding: 1)Females like a lot of natural growing greens for their babies. I make 1/2 of my tank thick with a variety of growing plants. 2)Females like to have as much high quality food as they want. I feed high-protein granules for guppies. 3)Females like to have a few girl buddies in the tank with them even if the other girls are not pregnant. Preferably no boys. 4)When my female starts to have her young, she isolates herself into the plants. I offer small snacks if she eats the snacks. She usually does. It helps with contractions and to not eat the babies. Last night I fed about 12 little meals while she had her 30+ babies over the course of hours. I am careful not to disturb her. I first feed her buddies at the other side so they won't race over to momma and take hers, lol. 5)When the babies start coming, I lift gently them out with a small cup and/or turkey baster, if it does not disturb the mom. CAUTION: turkey basters work great however the baby will often drop to the bottom of the baster quickly. Have a cup right there to put them into it. If the baby is high up in the turkey baster, I put my finger on the bottom of the baster to stop the water going out. Just watch for the baby. I have enough water in the cup so the baby won't hit her/his self when landing. I put ALL the babies together is a small container with a few plants. They feel safe together. Guppies are very sensitive and can get easily stressed. Mine have had a lot of babies and I just wanted to share what I have learned.😊
@@FatherFish Thank you so much! I really enjoy your videos. I LOVE knowing that you LOVE Jesus. He is my favorite being and has saved my life many times and healed me many times. He is the BEST NEWS ever.😊
do you know how to spot if a female guppy is about to give birth? i often just keep ones that i think is pregnant in a separate tank, but they get stressed out and stop eating though. i tried letting them stay in the community tank for longer but they then give birth and all the babies got eaten 🤧
@@doublebeefstew Good question. I always keep my pregnant guppies in another tank with a few other girl guppies even if the other girls are not pregnant. Girl guppies do not like to be alone, especially when they are about to give birth. They will usually go into the thick plants alone to give birth but they want their buddies in the tank. To protect, catch and keep the babies, I keep live plants and heavily build up areas with the plants from bottom to top so the fry can hide. Also, very important to feed Mama as much food as she wants. Mine eat a lot even during birthing. I catch the fry with a little cup and/or turkey baster. Make sure you are careful with them in the turkey baster. Have the cup ready to put them into. I then put the babies into another small tank with an airstone and lots of plants and gravel. I don't use a filter until they are big enough not to get pulled into it. Keep an airstone bubble maker going. I use the turkey baster to clean up the bottom as needed.. I grind up guppy granules and sometimes even add frozen baby brine shrimp for their food. I watch the mama closely when she is birthing so as to catch the babies before she eats them. I hope you can try this! I also use the 1 gallon plastic or glass water jugs with the tops cut out for nurseries as sometimes I get so many fry. Just put about an inch of gravel in the bottom with some plants along with just enough air bubbles. Works great.
Great video! I've kept several guppy breeding colonies over the past 2.5 years, and consistently the ones that do the best are the ones I interfere with the least!
If I only came across this channel a few years ago I would have saved so much money😢 I bought so much stuff and still had no luck keeping an aquarium...this guy is just too good.

I'm doing a fourth method, i call it the "let em breed" method. I started with 6 standard females and 2 different breeds of male, a standard and an endler (looks like a lyre tail but with a transparent webbing between the tail's flares). They bred a bunch of unique rainbow coloured snakeskin patterned ones, spotted rainbow ones, metallic blue-green ones, and none of them look even remotely similar to the starting two males. The idea now is to simply "let em breed" with no interference, to see just how intense the color patterns can get!
I just started selective breeding. I had three moscow blue...and one of the babies came out with an orange stripe and teal stripe on its side. So i deceided that was my special guy last April......fast forward i now have an salmon colored female which came from them...and i will breed with one of last years blue and orange males. Never know what's in the genes! Its so exciting to see.
With exhibition chickens (birds) it's the other way around. We encourage line breeding between parent and child, but discourage in-breeding between siblings from the same generation because it wastes time in isolating the traits we want. The chromosome in birds are also opposite and different (ZZ for males and ZW for females). It'll be an interesting journey moving from breeding chickens and parrots to breeding fish.
I luv guppies. I had a 70 gallon tank full of them, they were so beautiful to me. I had the one side of the tank near a window and when the sunlight hit them their skin was nothing more beautiful. I just let them populate as they wish 🐠

First can I just say how happy I am that I have found your channel (wish I had 2 years ago when I gave up fishkeeping due to misinformation). I am having to relearn aquarium care because of some of the other TH-camrs I used to watch who I now believe just wanted my money. One question I have wanted to ask is how do your fish survive through the transition into a new tank? I know plants do ALOT and I know the “nitrogen cycle” doesn’t really occur in an aquarium, but I am unsure how the bacteria grows so quickly to protect your fish. Thanks so much for your channel, I can’t wait to keep learning!

Great video! It’s lovely seeing new strains pop up. But at the same time, it’s sad seeing strains start fading away. It makes sense though. There are so many that keeping all the strains going would be rather difficult.
This video takes me back to my childhood. Here in Hungary and inside the town where I live, we had an interesting betta variant in the mid & late 90s. The males of that variant had magenta color body and sky blue eyes. Back then in the town where I live they were very common but only in one petstore. The store closed a few years after 2005 as I remember. Since then I never saw that kind of betta, there is a fat chance the store worked with a genius level professional breeder and maybe he died or just had a lack of interest in betta breeding, but I miss those bettas and the work of that mastermind who bred them.
Just wanted to share that much of what you showed from Michael's Fish Room is from a fish room tour of guppy breeder Doug Grey. Doug Grey is a wonderful breeder with his own channel here on TH-cam, if anyone wants to check his fish out. 😊 I've purchased fish from him and had a wonderful experience. I also feed his High Protein food as part of the food mix I feed to breed my guppies. I've enjoyed breeding Guppies for many years now. I enjoy selective colony breeding, where I choose males of different but compatible colors to breed with the females to produce a variety of colors. I also work a few tanks of inbreeding to create some strains of my own. Guppies are such wonderful and fun fish to breed and work with! 💖
Thank you Father Fish. This video helped me understand the different ways I can breed my guppies. There are two males that I really love the colors of. With this information hopefully I will get more like them. Great video! 😊
Now I get it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm 56 🙈🙈 I've been messaging you via other videos, I was stuck on line breeding... this video explained it for me - thank you. What I have to work out now is whether I can find the space to do it.
I have ran into a problem. I ordered a trio of a certain type of guppy, unfortunately 1 female was DOA. On top of that the remaining female is aggressive towards the male. I am having problems sourcing another female. Do I need to be specific with the female to get fish with the males traits? And what do I do with the aggressive female?
@FatherFish ok I also picked up a couple more females figured that would help curb the aggression. Unfortunately I also saw a male guppy I had to have and some new neocardinas but hey that happens.
I have a walstad tank with just guppies in it. Should i pick the poop off the sand substrate during maintenence or will that eventually move down into the deeper layers and not become an issue? My tank is a heavily planted 20g. Great content as always!
Awesome review on the technique of raising guppies. My room was cool because it's winter I turned the heat up. My female guppies out of 5 fancy tails not sure which one gave birth. My tank is planted up so they had three weeks of hiding not sure what the sexes are of the fry or the pattern at the end of March it will be 3 months definitely interesting to see what comes of it. Thank you so much Father Fish 😁🐟❣️
I have a question, so i have this 15 gallon aquarium that ive put several fish like glofish and orange platys, it has a driftwood and a large shrubbery of pothos as a natural filter, its not overstocked but some fish like my golden blue platys and swordtails have very short lifespans in that tank, but when i put mollies and swordtails in my 2 metre pond they flourish, does that mean they’re compatible with ponds or am i buying from weak breeders??

I stumbled upon your videos a day after I have already set up my tank. I have sand as a substrate and no dirt in the bottom. Any easy way to fix this or can I continue without a dirt layer?
Hey there Father Fish! I'm a begginer and I'm preparing to set up a 65 gallon fish tank using your method. I'm glad I found you on youtube, and a big thank you for all the useful information. I have a question though. I see many people using mesh bags to put the soil in it. Is that a good ideea? I wonder if I should use it. Thank you!
I found a mesh bag completely necessary for me to add soil to my aquarium. The thing is that my tank was already full with water and fish too. I put the soil in the bag and put some big rocks on it. I would sometimes squeeze the air out of the bag and make a big mess in the water to speed up the soaking process. After about two months the soil would be water-logged and would not float - the thing is the soil will float all over if you just add it to an already set-up tank. Watch more of Pop's videos and you will see how to squeeze water into the soil for a new tank.
Hi gentlemen first im new to you so am i in aquarium I have a question so my question is can i use epigeic in my aquarium as a substrate?? Please reply me thanks a alot
I'd be keen to know (if anyone does know) how many generations of inbreeding it takes for genetic problems to start to appear? Or are guppies not affected by this? Is there a general rule that after so many generations, breeders will breed with an outsider to keep the genetic pool diverse?
I was a bit confused at first when you described line breeding, because that is also inbreeding when applied to basically anything else but the differentiation cleared up what you meant for me. But also wanted to add that when line breeding it's not always incest, it just usually turns into it after time unless the person is really good at keeping separate genetics or constantly adding new stock. An example would be when someone first starts and buys the same fish but from different sources.
I did this before and got wonderful results. I'm doing it again but I have an endler I'm crossing with a random few females I got a the pet store (I bought them as babies). So once he's successfully a father, I'll be breeding him with the daughters and when I find what I'm looking for, I'll start line breeding in 2 separate tanks. Once I have the genes solidified I can cross both tanks
Hey just got your dirt supplement in the mail today ready to start my journey, wondering if there is a certain kind of sand I need to use to cap the soil ? Is the kind of sand at the hardware safe or do I need the aquarium sand from the pet store
I use pool filter sand. Rinse it very well, at least 4 times. Many others suggested it so that is what I did, l love the sand sooo much better than the gravel I used for many years. Sand is so easy to clean.
I would love to see you keep discus. I love the natural approach, but within the discus community there is such an empthesis on water change and very clean water.
Im going to get my first fish tank, its going to be a 10 or 20 gallon can you recommend some fish for that? Since I'm new, my family told me to get a betta fish, but I plan on either guppies or native shrimp and small fish
Depends on what you want. Bettas have a bigger personality (a bit like a dog), but guppies are way easier to breed and less likely to attack the shrimp kept as cleaning crew/tankmates.
Do you sell your glass bottom guppies with the red tails to Aquarium Fish Store? I bought a pair that look exactly like yours. I had two, now I can't count them all. 😊 One has a tail almost like a sword tail.
@@FatherFish Pond topic is very interesting e.g. how to get rid of the sludge/mud from big pond using natural metods and what will happen to this mud? Will it dissolve to nutriens? Greetings from Poland❤
I have sand and plants in my breeding tanks. Is their another setup you would recommend? I am looking to line breed my Blue Hawaiian Guppies. I just see a lot of bare tanks in most videos.
Greetings to everyone from Turkey. I set up a tank about 3 months ago, approximately 280 liters. It contains Guppy and many kinds of plants. But I just discovered this place, unfortunately I didn't make the floor like here. I'm very regretful. There is a lot of death, fungus and a lot of illnesses in my tank. I don't have a chance to change the floor right now. what should I do. I also use an external filter.
Father fish in fact I breed guppies and just like you said on the video, my father and my sons look the same and my mothers and daughters look the same just by accident. I just threw the minute take one day I start it out with nine guppies 2 mailes and seven females and now I have approximately 30 fish in a 20 gallon tank
Why is it they only sell male guppies at PetSmart that have specific names? The females were in one tank and just called assorted guppies. I just don't understand that. This little boy went and bought some guppies 4 hours ago.
I really want to breed pretty guppies but just to get my hands on some pretty guppies it cost at least 50 dollars I know live fish shouldn’t be cheap but I don’t have that amount of money 😅
You can develop your own beautiful guppies in just 3 generations by selecting the males tat are the prettiest and breeding them with virgin females from the same batch.

Can you do video on Discus?❤️
excellent and thank you for promoting Doug Grey
Thank you Father Fish. This video helped me understand the different ways I can breed my guppies. There are two males that I really love the colors of. With this information hopefully I will get more like them. Great video! 😊
Now I get it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm 56 🙈🙈
I've been messaging you via other videos, I was stuck on line breeding... this video explained it for me - thank you.
Separate them and feed the male high protein diet. When he regains his vigor try them again.
@FatherFish ok I also picked up a couple more females figured that would help curb the aggression. Unfortunately I also saw a male guppy I had to have and some new neocardinas but hey that happens.
Loved the video, perfect subject for me because I have been dabbling in trying to get some different mixes . 😁👍
I have a walstad tank with just guppies in it. Should i pick the poop off the sand substrate during maintenence or will that eventually move down into the deeper layers and not become an issue? My tank is a heavily planted 20g. Great content as always!
add more sand
Awesome review on the technique of raising guppies. My room was cool because it's winter I turned the heat up. My female guppies out of 5 fancy tails not sure which one gave birth. My tank is planted up so they had three weeks of hiding not sure what the sexes are of the fry or the pattern at the end of March it will be 3 months definitely interesting to see what comes of it. Thank you so much Father Fish 😁🐟❣️
I really appreciate this video father fish.
😊interesting guppy info sharings, Father Fish!
Impossible to say. Join us in the Shoal where will have the time and resources to help you understand what is happening. Goto fatherfish.fish to find the link to out Discord channel.
I stumbled upon your videos a day after I have already set up my tank. I have sand as a substrate and no dirt in the bottom. Any easy way to fix this or can I continue without a dirt layer?

Thank you for such a great video. I learned alot
Thank You Father fish. YOU DA MAN !!!
Baba her verdiğin bilgi altın değerinde.İyiki varsın .
Hi gentlemen first im new to you so am i in aquarium
I have a question so my question is can i use epigeic in my aquarium as a substrate??
Please reply me thanks a alot
When he said this is for all the 9-year-olds I was thinking I'm 39 and I really like that information
Great upload 👌
I'd be keen to know (if anyone does know) how many generations of inbreeding it takes for genetic problems to start to appear? Or are guppies not affected by this? Is there a general rule that after so many generations, breeders will breed with an outsider to keep the genetic pool diverse?
Yes. About 5 generations
Great plan
How do I kill parasites in my tank did water changes but they still dying I think it's a parasite please help me n advise
Can you do a how to keep angel fish video ? Ive always had difficulty keeping them alive. No matter what i did.
yes
Great videos. You ever collect discus?
Not yet!
Merci Papy❤45ans de Belgique 😁
GRATITUDE 💥🐟💥
Oh hes also a national treasure. Like if you agree.
Does a guppy tank need oxygen bubbler Father Fish??
good idea
Hey just got your dirt supplement in the mail today ready to start my journey, wondering if there is a certain kind of sand I need to use to cap the soil ? Is the kind of sand at the hardware safe or do I need the aquarium sand from the pet store
I use pool filter sand. Rinse it very well, at least 4 times.
Many others suggested it so that is what I did, l love the sand sooo much better than the gravel I used for many years. Sand is so easy to clean.
Great guppy master! 🥰
“Fishy fun” channel says love it!!
Please post more videos about betta fish 😊😅
I would love to see you keep discus. I love the natural approach, but within the discus community there is such an empthesis on water change and very clean water.
Thank You ❤
Im going to get my first fish tank, its going to be a 10 or 20 gallon can you recommend some fish for that? Since I'm new, my family told me to get a betta fish, but I plan on either guppies or native shrimp and small fish
Depends on what you want. Bettas have a bigger personality (a bit like a dog), but guppies are way easier to breed and less likely to attack the shrimp kept as cleaning crew/tankmates.
Great video👍
Would you say it is an issue to breed Sons to Mothers?
not as a routine practice but not more than twice
Thank you very much! Love your channel! @@FatherFish
Do you sell your glass bottom guppies with the red tails to Aquarium Fish Store? I bought a pair that look exactly like yours. I had two, now I can't count them all. 😊 One has a tail almost like a sword tail.
I don't./
Hey Father fish, what is your way to get a good pond ecosystem?
food web
@@FatherFish Pond topic is very interesting e.g. how to get rid of the sludge/mud from big pond using natural metods and what will happen to this mud? Will it dissolve to nutriens? Greetings from Poland❤
Love it..❤
Hello Father FishC can you do a shrimp breeding video.❤
I just like the most common, natural-looking variety of every species.
Very good video 👍
GREAT VIDEO.
DEAR FATHER FISH....HOW CAN I SOLVE THE ALGEA PROBLEM
add plants
THANK YOU SIR
I have sand and plants in my breeding tanks. Is their another setup you would recommend? I am looking to line breed my Blue Hawaiian Guppies. I just see a lot of bare tanks in most videos.
Since you are already setup a sand substrate of 3” is ok. No barebottom.
fun fact: i don't even understand my own filipino vloggers explaining this stuff on yt, but father fish made me understand it clearly lol.😅
@@MADMUSICENT. basta naintindihan ko lang sa kanila benta hahaha mas ok pa dito
I love guppies
Greetings to everyone from Turkey. I set up a tank about 3 months ago, approximately 280 liters. It contains Guppy and many kinds of plants. But I just discovered this place, unfortunately I didn't make the floor like here. I'm very regretful. There is a lot of death, fungus and a lot of illnesses in my tank. I don't have a chance to change the floor right now. what should I do. I also use an external filter.
create a food web
If you do line breeding wont the chances of getting a deformed fish increase?
It is impoprtant to add new lines every 4 generations.
I'm sure it's fun breeding. But what do you do with all the extra fish you don't want or need.... you can't give all away or to a pet store.
be creative. Help children set up tanks.
Line breeding and inbreeding are the same thing. Usually if it works they call it line breeding,if it doesn't they call it in breeding 👍😊
Hey sir sword fish in india is available in many cities please let me know if you are interested.
yes!
Im a swordfish aficionado!
👍💪
Why is it they only sell male guppies at PetSmart that have specific names? The females were in one tank and just called assorted guppies. I just don't understand that.
This little boy went and bought some guppies 4 hours ago.
ignorance
O My GoD ! 🗽
Who IS your GoD?
I just bought 10 guppies male and female, 4 days later all male guppies died. Why?
dunno. Join us in the Shoal. We will investigate. discord.gg/father-fish-shoal
Amazing advice, thank you Father Fish 👍
I really want to breed pretty guppies but just to get my hands on some pretty guppies it cost at least 50 dollars I know live fish shouldn’t be cheap but I don’t have that amount of money 😅
You can develop your own beautiful guppies in just 3 generations by selecting the males tat are the prettiest and breeding them with virgin females from the same batch.
I want too breed angelfish
I purchased male guppies from one store and females from another hoping in some way they weren't related but it doesn't seem to matter 😅
I have a few double swordtail guppy😅
