    Awesome video! This exact scenario happened to me back in June 2024. I was sitting at a red light and a distracted driver in a Toyota truck with a bumper guard rear ended me. Fortunately the guy had insurance and I did get paid out eventually, after two months of getting the run around from the insurance company. My old 2004 Honda Civic hybrid manual is drivable but once I got the trunk open, it just won’t shut. I’ve been driving around with a rope holding the thing shut. The gap looks just like this. I could take it to a body shop but I don’t think it’s worth putting that much money into such an old vehicle. I do love the car and it runs great so I’m trying to do the repairs myself on the cheap when I found your video. Super detailed, helpful and entertaining tutorial! Love the channel! Thanks for sharing

      Right on! Good luck. How my dad explained it was it doesn’t work now so why not try to fix it. What’s the worst that could happen its already not operational but a little effort might fix it and not only did you get it working you did it yourself.

    I was involved in a hit and run incident that occurred on a Saturday evening. It was very terrifying but I stood bold to bare and settle it myself. Though I did not know the driver and the vehicle, I thank God that I was not injured , the driver flee and will regret it for his/her actions. Interesting videos like this make drivers like us that’s not at fault to release it all out, eventually we pray to have a safe trip every time we’re driving. Impressive video!

      @@VinylVillageGarage is what happened to the back of your car considered frame damage? The metal in the back of my trunk is bent just like yours except the person admitted fault for the accident

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good question that I don’t have the answer for. A unibody car basically means the entire car is the frame and all the pieces are part of the structure. With that said to the professional world the answer might be yes, so in your case fortunately it sounds like insurance is going to help pay for the repair just incase it’s considered the frame. Which is repairable of course just probably not the way I did it.

      It’s a come along or also called cable winch puller. It can lift like 2 tons so it gives you some decent pulling power.

    Thank you for this video. I have an Altima. I must have been hit in a parking lot - no clue when it happened. I was recently washing the car, tried to open the trunk to clean around the lights and quarter panels and the trunk is catching on the inner black trim panel around the latch. I looked at the bumper cover lip and it’s about 1/2” from the exterior wall of the trunk. Took off the bumper cover and sure enough, the steel bumper has a crack in it and is pushed in about 2”. The bumper and brackets are really rusted. I had no idea they were this bad so I bought new ones. My question is - do you find it’s normally best to correct with a come-along using the old bumper and brackets as a reference to gauge the correction rather than remove the old bent parts first and find an attachment point directly on the exterior trunk wall?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Normally in collision repair start by pulling the car back into shape before removing or replacing parts. I would pull as much back into shape first

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends on budget and quality really. Internet has some for sure or even harbor freight. The one I used in that video cost me like $20 bucks 20 years ago and I still use it now. But a nicer unit with a chain is more money still sure you can buy one for under $100

    There is a dent near the trunk from hitting a mailbox, could this cause a leak in the trunk when it rains??

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes potentially just depends on how bad and if it has caused panel misalignment, or if the damage is close to the taillight wage can get in that way as well

      Unfortunately cars are just made of Light gauge sheet metal and it doesn’t take much to bend them out of shape. Like in this video it didn’t look bad bad it needed help. Most of the time you can pull the car back into shape.

    My Elantra is 100 times worse, with both frame rails rippled. The spare wouldn't fit in the well anymore, so I let all the air out, shoved it in, then blew it up to 70 PSI. I then repeated the process with a little piece of wood between the spare and the back wall of the trunk. As I increase the size of the wood, more and more of the original "dent" is coming out and even the frame rails are looking a bit better. The next step will have to involve pulling, and I think I'll use the momentum of the car so I don't have to rely on the tires, brakes or transmission to hold it still; I just need to find a big tree, or run a 15,000 LB ratchet strap under the tires of another vehicle. It will never be perfect, but if I can pad the bumper out with wood and glue, get the bumper skin back on, and make it look respectable from 10 feet away, it will be good for at least a few more years. I'm not trying to impress anyone with a car like this, but it does its job reliably.
