  • There's a debate that speaker break in is a myth. That it serves no actual purpose! I think quite the opposite and here's why!

    Man..... I was expecting another terrible explanation on breaking in subs. You on the other hand explained it great. I'm running skar right now but I'm getting ready to install a sundown u12 on a sfb-2000 and I'm understanding how I got to do this. Thanks man.

    Yes the voice coils need to break in, and seat into the magnete, then the spider surround needs to flex alot to loosen up, just like the stiff surrounds ! Speaker break in is true heres how I know 100 percent ! I bought 2 sets of the Pioneer fs52s their cheap and sound amazing for price point, i used a set for a year on my home theater and kepted the other set put up for a year. once i brought the set out that was put up for a year I had both sets hooked to my Pioneer elite SX-N30 older ones on speaker A newer ones on speaker B and wow what a difference the broken in ones sounded much better !

    25yrs of car audio and home audio i definitely feel its best to run-in (break-in) the speakers at least for 2 weeks at first of regular use.

    My friend told me about this years ago & I finally said, "time to investigate" glad I did. I will no longer just jam out new speaker. After doing this, is it a good idea to do the same for the life of a speaker; Play low and after 5 min of driving get your desired volume.

    • @Kpaceguy
      @Kpaceguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It originally had carpet on it, I took it completely off obviously and sanded it lightly, spray painted it white then use painted tape to cover the entire box, drew my name and TH-cam logo over top of the painters tape and then used a box cuter to trace out the drawing then spray painted it black. Then took the paint and just splattered black everywhere

  • @CupOfSweetTea
    @CupOfSweetTea 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dont understand why this is even a question. Either 1) speakers do need to break in because they change, in which case speaker and driver designers will know quantitative details because they will need to be considered at the design process, or 2) somehow you have to believe that speakers break in and designers do not consider this and somehow it always manages to make things sound better (which means they were not designed optimally in the first place), or 3) speakers dont need to be broken in. Id suggest 2 is unacceptable as an answer, so its 1 or 3. If 1, then why dont they just make it public and put this to rest?

      You just need some music or test tones that wont bother you and let the speakers play. 20hz break in is dumb... 2 reasons.. they will never reproduce this frequencty.... 2 thats generating allot of hrat and using allot of power to do this.... might work for a few short intervals.. best idea is just play what you listen to with transitions

  • @relyt559
    @relyt559 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just my opinion but I think break in is not something audible. at least in all the speakers I've ever owned. Maybe it's more relevant in car audio, with woofers with large spider surrounds, and extremely large xmax and qts numbers. My 2216nd drivers in my JBL are tight as a drum and barely move even at 100db SPL at 30hz. Your skar subs, whats their specs anyway?

    • @Kpaceguy
      @Kpaceguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the few days I've had them they're giving something in the 140s db at RIDICULOUS lows. Its pretty legit

    • @relyt559
      @relyt559 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kpaceguy I'm sure they can get that loud around 30-50hz for sure. at one foot away :P loudest I ever put my JBL 4367 was a 118dB peak during the opening of day after tomorrow, the bass gets very low and loud at the beginning of that movie. car audio is a different beast from traditional home hifi audio for sure tho.
      my new mcintosh amp which is on the way, hopefully will be here soon... it has peak output of 1.8kW at which point it will be demanding 70amperes! kind of nuts!!! Will I ever own a speaker that would actually require that much power, probably not haha.

      Willie Davis mine are -6dB at 30hz HOWEVER, JBL keeps things honest and lists anechoic measurements. My speakers are actually more like -3dB at 30hz. For a full range system that is all in one, that is amazing numbers. I don’t have the space for subs so this works out perfect for me. I will be sending kpsacwguy some detailed info and pics of my system at some point, currently just waiting for my new rack to get in from timbernation before I show my stuff off.
