Saint's Row 2 will always hold a special place in my heart as where they managed to balance the wacky elements with a dude getting buried alive as punishment.
pretty much so, the game took itself seriously that a whack thing made sense and didn't feel forced in the saints universe. spraying sewage to lower neighborhood prices so you can get paid from the realtor or the grieving widow? makes sense. burying a annoying brat disturbing a funeral from the person that was a collateral from his orders? also makes sense.

I made environment art for this game. I know how blah the reception is on the the game but I still had fun working on it. Here's a few ideas that were floated but didn't/couldn't make it into the game. The cute jail where Vlad the Impaler is held was originally going to be playing 'MMMBop' by Hanson rather than 'Wheels on The Bus'. There were licensing issues, I believe it would have cost too much. Also, Satan was going to be completely nude, with a giant censor bar and everything. They made him a diaper 2 months before the game launched.
I do like 4. I can understand why people don´t like it. But i also think it has some nice pay-offs and moments if you played the previous games. Also there is the scene with Boss and Pierce singing "opposites attract" and i think that´s just great. Edit: I think i bought Gat out of Hell for 5 bucks? Honestly there are way worse games out there for 5 bucks.
Such kind of mayhem games are my kind of game, so I really enjoyed it. I also think the open ending just fits perfectly, because it's safe. You can end the story the way you want.

I've played SR2, 3 and 4, and honestly I feel like people are just too emotionally attached to SR2, to the poing where memories blind reality. They are all bad games that are so bad they are actually good, and the progression makes sense. I don't think they could've really improved on SR2 without it losing what made it special, other than maybe refining the gameplay. A more refined gameplay woul've felt out of place with the overall whackiness, and if they had also made it more serious it would've become GTA. They went the opposite way, they embraced the craziness and chaos, maybe a little too much. SR2 was only grounded in a literal sense (since you couldn't fly), but they were never like good good games, and I don't see why 4 is so much worse than 2.

It's dumb fun, plain and simple. Saints Row 4 AND Gat out of Hell were both expanded DLCs for Saints Row 3 that they decided they wanted to make into full games so they could charge more money for them not understanding that the developers weren't just pulling out the story's and setting's roots, but they were literally shooting those roots into space, transforming them into a Matrix parody, and then sending them into Hell. Dumb fun, but ultimately too much work for too little worth.
I’m of the opinion if they had simply marketed Gat Outta Hell as a spin-off and changed the intro to Gat being forced into the alien containment pods by the aliens and the whole Hell thing is just the aliens trying to break Gat’s will. A few things would need some rewriting, but they can keep Ultor in and introduce the rest of the crew as manifestions of Gat’s twisted mind fighting the simulation. Then switching to the Aisha death loop when they realized that the original simulation wasn’t working. The ending would have Gat going through the loop before turning to see the Boss. Not quite the best, but it would have fit better as a Gat prequel to SRIV instead of Devil wanting to have the Boss marry his daughter. We all can agree that Gat Outta Hell was still far more fun to play than Shit’s Row Reboot.
Dude, Saints Row 4 was perfect! It was comedic gold and the cameos and Easter eggs, mixed with the unlimited character creation were the ingredients for an amazing time.
Yeaaaaaa this being the follow-up to 4 really hurt my soul, because i knew there was no saving the franchise... and we just won't talk about what came after this...

I played the titles for the laughs, not the ganbanger culture. SR2 is amazing. I played through SR3 about a dozen times. And SR4 is like Prototype 3 without the extreme violence. Thanks for the fun

TLDR the guys at top didn't want edgy humor or sexualized stuff in the game, and apparently because of the George Floyd incident some devs didn't want to make anything that could be construed by terminally online losers as anti-black/racist or promoting violence against police. Not much to do with GTA.
Funny thing is the textures, particle effects and stuff are godly, better than that reboot and the Wings are far better than that Wingsuit, story though isnt this game's strong suit.

Ah yes, the game that was meant to transfer your character from SR4, then they updated SR4 and how character saves worked and never updated this game to read the new save files so you have to do a weird-ass workaround just to see your custom character for the brief periods they do exist. And some of us still hold hope that the PC version of Saints Row 2 will get an official patch...

This really feels like they knew this was gonna be the last Saints Row thing they'd do, so it's actually pretty funny. The gameplay though, that just wasn't within their power to make fun.
I'm always a bit surprised people play saints row games, only to complain about the so-called side content being repetitive. But that's LITERALLY what the games are built around, with only a few "main-story" missions that break the mold. 80% of the time, you are doing side content to take over the map, get new powers/vehicles/weapons, etc. This was true in SR2, SR3, SR4, Gat Outta Hell, and even the Unnamed one. I could even argue that it's how Agents of Mayhem (which is the actual historical sequel to 4 and Gat Outta Hell rather than the reboot) is too. It's just that SR2 and SR3 had far better story missions, so people remember them fonder.
I really liked both 3 and 4 as a child. They were perfect to just run around and cause mayham. The fourth game is just more mobile with more cool and silly things.

But that's LITERALLY what the games are built around, with only a few "main-story" missions that break the mold. 80% of the time, you are doing side content to take over the map, get new powers/vehicles/weapons, etc. This was true in SR2, SR3, SR4, Gat Outta Hell, and even the Unnamed one. I could even argue that it's how Agents of Mayhem (which is the actual historical sequel to 4 and Gat Outta Hell rather than the reboot) is too.
It's just that SR2 and SR3 had far better story missions, so people remember them fonder.

I really liked both 3 and 4 as a child. They were perfect to just run around and cause mayham. The fourth game is just more mobile with more cool and silly things.

I actually really loved this DLC. BUT i took to the series getting more and more goofy alot better than most people so theres that 😂

This game should've stayed as a DLC rather than a full blown "standalone" game.
That ending actually leads into Agents of MAYHEM.
