    I learned more about aging cigars in this 13 minute video than I have in the past 10 years of practicing the hobby. Thanks!

    I've tested the "marrying" problem with putting to opposite cigars next to each other (with no cello) for three years. Apparently they don't actually marry. Both blends taste exactly how they were supposed to taste, with the exception of the strength being lower due to those three years. And of course, this doesn't included infused cigars, which should always be kept away from non-infused.

    This is criminally under-viewed. It’s so interesting. Personally, I want to enjoy a fine cigar for life events and this series is helping make it even more special.

      This is ironic as Pierre Rogers is a criminal, sentenced earlier this year to 41 months in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud. Turns out he was using PPP loans for Purotrader and other companies to finance a luxurious lifestyle.

    You don't need some fine grained humidor, they leak. Use sealed Tupperware like Sistema for large quantities or Rubbermaid Brilliance for smaller. Lower your boveda pack to like a 62% because the humidity will rise to about 64%. Rotate and inspect quarterly. Keep around 55-65 degrees, and use a hygrometer with a Bluetooth connection like Govee to warn you if humidity gets out of spec.

    Great video, you earned my sub! I’m old enough that I’m not concerned about aging sticks 5-10 years from now (but my son will inherit a gold mine). I’ve found that the difference in a good cigar out of the box and the same cigar with 1-9 months aging can be profound. Some that I find the greatest improvement in short term aging are RP Decade, CAO Brasilia & Punch Classic. Of course my strategy is to keep so many boxes of many brands/blends that they’re all aging!

    I love your videos guys! I've been into cigars for the past 10 years, smoked my first one at a party when I was 17 something like that... I usually smoke 2 to 4 cigars a year. Everytime is a different one. Lately, I've smoked at least 10 cigars in 2 months, because I was trying to see if your advices were accurate. Now... I think I'm going to need to buy a humidor 😝 Thanks again. From France.

    I put a layer off coffee then I cover with coffee filters dipped in whiskey on the bottom of my boxes since I don't have a humidor it adds a nice flavor to cheaper cigars since I can't hold them very long

    I tried Cohiba red and I wasn't that impressed so I kept the rest in my humidor and avoided them for some time. A few months later I smoked one and OMG it was so good with all of these nuisance flavors, it just opened up and was a beautiful cigar.

    I find Cubans improve most with aging. Picked up several boxes in 2018 at a Habanos S.A. shop. They were in the "sick" period you referenced - unsmokeable. 6-8 months aging to become smokeable. A year to enjoy. Continued aging of Cubans = continued, noticeable, marked improvement.

    • @MightyJabroni
      @MightyJabroni 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing with Cuban cigars is that they (due to climate challenges and storms) often lose more of their tocacco crop than they used to. But still they have to meet a big demand. Because "Cuban cigars" still hold that special status. Even though, I think most of this is superstition at that point.
      So they often ship their cigars out too early. It's not so much aging but it is you actually doing the factory's homework.^^

  • @Everydaygentleman

    I've heard a good, easy way to age cigars is the smaller acrylic cylinders with cedar at the bottom. I think they hold 12 or so sticks and are easy to put away. Haven't tried it myself though.

    I had a few cigars in the same container and one of them had ammonia problem and now all my cigars have ammonia lol
    I discovered that one of them had the problem but it was too late. Soon after I separated the cigar from the rest, the rest then started to emit ammonia smell.
    I guess no smoke for me for the next 3 to 6 months lol

    When someone that manufactures quality cigars like Padron. Says it they age a particular cigar 5 years. Does that refer to aging the leaves before the cigar is rolled and then they are aged an additional 3 to 6 months?

    • @sin8800
      @sin8800 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, leaf age and rolled "aging room" age are very different. All major brands age their blends perfectly to their desired flavor, so if you were to age a Padron, not much would happen. The only cigars worth aging yourself are cubans because they don't have time to age them as much as they want (Cuba is small vs super high global demand). Also, boveda 65% packs eliminates any potential mold issue and you don't have to open that humidor (aging in plastic or glass is more controlled anyway)

      Lol, I use a big plastic box with a rubber lip/seal. Like what you would use for any garden chair cushions. This thing seals basically hermetically. And if I would get a humidor with the stame storage capacity, I would have to pay 10 times as much as that thing cost me.^^ I would not even be certain if the humidor would seal quite as well.
      I have Boveda Packs in there that last for well over a year, before they stop giving off humitidy.

    My question is: How can you pretend your cigar or your box have been aging for 10 years ? Do you have some production or release date when you buy a cigare box ? I mean i'm aging some sticks for 1 or 2 years now but have no proof of that. Do you get that with a complete cigare box ?
    I'm realy waiting for someone to answer please :) Thanks in advance.

    • @manuel_winde
      @manuel_winde ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah if you buy a box of cigars it will have an age on the bottom with month and year in my experience (I’ve only bought boxes of Cubans so not sure if new worlds do this too but it’s less of an issue with them as there’s less improvement in my experience).
      Buying singles is harder- I tend to mainly buy 2-3 of a cigar, 1 to have within a year and the other(s) to stick in the main stash that’s aging -or just being saved for the right occasion.
      I have a few old ones now including a Cohiba Siglo V that was bought in about 1999! I keep meaning to smoke it but when I go to have one I end up grabbing something cheaper as “once it’s gone, it’s gone” (and with their current prices I’m unlikely to be buying many more!)

    you guys are definitely 100% wrong about a freshly roll cigar because that tobacco is done correctly should have been aged and that ammonia is already purged away. so you can definitely smoke it and the cigar will taste incredible but you would definitely not get the full taste of the cigar when all those oils are aged together

  • @mycigaradventures8322
    @mycigaradventures8322 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry but 10 years is way too long to ages cigar I prefer six months to a year you really taste the difference in The cigar five years max after five years most of the oils evaporates anyway

  • @BigGrizzNYC

    Total bullshit. More about hype less about smoking cigars. Most cigars aren’t going to improve much past 2 years. Strong cigars like Padrons could benefit from aging. You’ll notice more intense flavor and reduced strength overall a smoother smoke, but the tobacco is aged 4 to 5 years before rolling. Cuban tobacco benefits the most because they’re aged the least. The demand for Cubans make it difficult to age tobacco for 5 years. Smoking cigars is great. I smoke one almost daily. Sometimes two. I love it. It’s something I do. It’s NOT a hobby.
