    I think the reason why people drink scotch with cigars (myself included) is because it brings out more of the sweetness from the scotches that’s normally the smoke covers up! When your mouth is already Smokey your tasting the sweetness of the scotch which is honestly one reason why I started appreciating scotch in the first place! I typically really like bourbon or a rye with my cigars though which are normally sweeter and I find pair really nicely. I never thought of rum or champagne before though I’ll definitely be giving it a shot!

    My friends said i was nuts for saying scotch doesnt pair well with some cigars, glad this video backs up my claim. I prefer Brandy or red wine with my stronger cigars in the winter. In the summer I like more mild cigars with a nice cold beer.... and sometimes scotch 😀. I find weather and climate really play a role in pairing.

      @jmprow83 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not to sound rude, but this is wrong. Probably 90% of scotches have no peat-ie smoke. Speyside, highland and lowland scotches have no smoke and are often finished with Sherry or port casks and can range from earthy and grassy to fruity and sweet.

    I've found that mocha and merlot play well with maduro. All of them are intensely flavorful with _some_ overlap in flavor profile and _individual_ notes that complement each other nicely.
    Strangley, though not _so_ surprisingly, I've found that Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade also works well with maduro because it's dark and intense but with a palate cleansing crisp acidity.

    I think the most important thing to note is if you're taste testing a cigar for the first time best thing to drink with it is a water. Keeps the palate moist and receptive to the flavors but doesn't impart any itself, so you get the clearest version of the cigar's flavors itself.

  • @rexharrison6827

    My smoking preferences are Hoyo de Monterray and H. Upmann (well, currently!) If I’m drinking with them I often choose Havana Club rum Especial. I rarely select a whiskey due to its smokiness (when I drink whiskey at all, I tend towards the Irish varieties which are very smokey). I was surprised you didn’t discuss brandies or ports. Heavy drinks that support a heavy cigar. Glad you included coffee, too. Another drink I’ve found mixes well with cigars is Japanese sake. There are dozens of flavours so it takes some experimentation to get the right mix, but I’ve found the two go quite well together and sake, if I’m honest, is really my go-to drink simply because it goes with just about everything!
    Anyway, first time I’ve caught your channel and enjoyed it immensely. Cheers!

    Big time scotch enthusiast here--only reason I started smoking cigars was because of how it enhanced and altered my enjoyment of the whisky. Many peaty whiskies have a whole bouquet of flavors *underneath* the smoke that are difficult for the average palate to access. Cigars can help bring some of those notes out. Also the coating effect that cigars produce in the mouth totally changes the experience of drinking the whisky and creates an experience all its own. Definitely don't listen to these dudes. There is no finer pairing than Scotch and a nice cigar. Period.

    Well as I see things, you can drink anything you like, it's your cigar. But certain drinks and cigars compliment each other better. Did you know your drink doesn't have to be alcholic? Coffee, tea, orange juice...yep, I even heard oj. Or perhaps you prefer nothing at all? Do you need to have a drink every time you smoke a cigar? Maybe after a nice dinner on a cold winter's evening you'll have capachino. It's whatever you like. Enjoy your cigar and drink!!!

    For me, with one exception, nothing goes well with a cigar: coffee, wine, champagne, beer, brandy, tea, etc. Only whisky - be it Scotch or bourbon.

      Interesting! I'd say give it a try if you want. If you like it with a cigar then it works for you!

    So a single malt with a cigar is a big no no?

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily, not all single malts are smokey. Anything with a sherry finish or anything unpeated should be just fine. You can smoke a cigar with something like Ardbeg or Lagavulin but you will be missing out on the contrasting nuance that comes with other pairings. In the end, if you like it, go for it.

      Gent's Lounge as a beer drinker probably a stout or porter could pair with a stronger cigar and maybe an ale with a more mild one?

  • @RIF241
    @RIF241 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is no right or wrong. Pairing is 100% your preference. If you like the experience of a mild cigar with scotch then that's what you like. If you don't then you don't. Don't ever let anyone tell you what is right and wrong when it comes to pairing.

    I’m sorry what? There are waaaay more non smoke scotches compared to smokey scotches lol. And peat is NOT the same as cigar smoke. That’s a bid of weird advice. The rest of the drinks I agree on :). I can really suggest highland park 12 or dalmore cigar malt with just about any cigar.

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not saying it can't work but contrasting flavor profiles tend to enhance both experiences.
