Nucanoe is a top quality brand. The ownership is also very customer friendly. I’ve owned the big Frontier 12 for a few years and still love it . All of my kids have learned to paddle sitting up front while I “assit” them as they paddle. Thank you Chad for backing up Nucanoe. I don’t work for Chad nor Nucanoe, I do not receive any freebies. Just an independent review from yak fisherman and hunter.
Really appreciate you adding the family aspect I love hearing that Khristy and your family are all enjoying it's for men and women and it sounds like even kids can use that is something more I keep looking for as my boys grow would be nice to have a few or if I want to take a cousin with me or maybe get a few different kind so I can get a few of the kids and family members to all go really appreciate that part thank you for sharing that quality piece.
Is the boat stable enough for a 150 guy to crawl to the back and easily remove weeds if the prop gets tangled? That's my only concern. Other than that, I am very much liking this deck and hull design.
I paddled it on Demo day with that new pedal pivot drive at iCast and it was sketchy. I nearly flipped twice just by going right to left and not fast either. I only weigh 214. The only thing that kept me from flipping was that I somehow had the presence of mind to center the rudder. I kind of couldn't wait to get the heck out of it. The topwater 106 kicks the crap out of it based on the demo. It was stable and super fast. Much cheaper and a better rudder steer system too. Nucanoe has some work to do on that drive.
Yes, it was the drive. It is also a prototype. I'm not bashing NuCanoe BTW. They are really nice guys. It was the new drive on a Flint which is a different animal than the Pursuit. The Flint is so light and the motor was so heavy that the change in direction made it unstable for me. These are the bugs that happen when you make something. However, if I was a buyer, I would not invest in it to sell to my customers. Not yet. This won't be released for sometime. Too much still to work out.
I do like the power of direct propulsion which is a better position than any pedal drives out there but just not sure of the layout of this system, i have a flint/f10 this would more likely be better on the f12/f10 where you can get away with raising the seats accordingly to the pedal height, on the other hand pelican has some pedal yaks coming out in the new year that i'm interested in. i would like a pedal drive yak just not sure what direction i'm going yet pedal system or a pedal yak for about the same price roughly .
So, the Pivot Drive prop is belt-driven (from what I could tell in the video)? Is there a way to adjust/maintain the tension on the belt if/when any stretch occurs in the belt?
Joe C.: Yep, definitely belt drive at the pedal unit, and after rewatching the opening video sequence there's a belt rotating and driving the prop on the vertical direct-steer rudder unit. Maybe it also has "teeth" like the pedal drive belt, and no slippage will occur.
my concern here is what happens if I get into a little vegetation- yeah the prop gets wrapped possibly, but now I have to clean the belt and maybe the drive gears too? Maybe there is a cover that prevents this from happening but just isn't shown on the prototype...
Love the idea of the pivot drive - cable driven at the rear, but the implementation looks like a beta 0.3 version. I think I want to wait for 2.1. The front pedal unit looks HEAV-EEE. Not sure why they opted for belts. Cleaning weeds won't be fun but then do ppl with Torqueedos at the rear complain about weeds in the prop (maybe they do)? It absolutely needs an automated way to bump itself up for logs/rocks - I call shenanigans on the light tension idea. I'm fishing, I'm steering, I'm pedaling, I'm presumably looking for obstacles and navigating, and I'm putting tension on the drive release? When can someone take this idea, simplify it, and take away half the weight and cost? Great/promising start though.
I must say I don't think it comes close to the Jackson Coosa with the flex drive the fact I can clear weeds from a sitting position is priceless in a pedal yak, I'm also a little skeptical of the belt drive on the Flint pivot drive. I think in comparison the Jackson flex drive is just better because its all stainless internal parts will last a lifetime for the same money and are also removable for deck space. But in the end, the coolest thing about kayaks is they are so personalized it's really whatever you like and fits your needs it does looks like a very nice kayak. Thanks for sharing Chad and as always thanks for all you do for the sport and Stay Bowed Up!
too high pedals, and very uncomfortable with low seating in the seat, sweeping comfortably move on the kayak! and so the idea is not bad but it needs to be worked out. as well as on the pedal six-sided did not interfere with the edges on the edges so that the belt does not slip in different directions and does not rub around the edges.

It is amazing all the new pedal drives coming out right now

Solid design. It will be hard to clear out weeds though.
i guess it is kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released series online ?
@Cody Lorenzo i use Flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Cody Lorenzo i use Flixzone. Just google for it :)
Would you recommend the Flint or Pursuit for paddling and fly fishing on rocky rivers and flatwater?

Wonder why reps don't show the bottom of the hull more? That's one of the most important features.
Jerry Krabe I did on the on water video, it’s kinda of hard in a booth at a show with a rigged boat
Chad Hoover 👍
Not that this isn’t cool but you should review the new pelican catch with pedal drive. Sounds like an amazing budget pedal drive kayak.

john thomas is that because it turns so sharp? The Pursuit is my favorite kayak, but I'm just not sold on the drive.

IT will be out in the new year..
#NuCanoe
Is it right, good to see they worked out that issue with locking pin I know their will be plenty of happy #Flint Anglers

Greg Jackson I think its just a belt at the pedal unit...it looks like a flex shaft runs out to the back of the boat.

Chris Huddleston: Good point.
scott horn Check other videos of it on the water. Seems to be very quiet.
Are those handles available as parts? I'd love to have a pair of those!
Where's the Bonafide booth?
Joe C. Packed up on the way back to Greenville, SC.

Edge 150 i do agree, however Nucanoe makes open cockpit designs for customization which I like. And they're lighter. There's just no perfect Yak.
Dude! Let the man talk!
$999 for the pedal drive unit. Crazy

Very nice but damn there prices are way to high for this kayak fishermen
