Again, nice playing. I think c1973 I owned a big red stomp fuzz box and I wish I still had it. Do you like P90’s? I’ve never played them but I think I’d love them. Oh, just in case I forget, Merry Christmas to you and all.
Thank you Mike and Merry Christmas to you and yours 👍. Yeah, I love P90s. Particularly in that Gold Top. The P90 in my Les Paul Junior is wound very hot.... so I’m struggling to tame it 🤣. But on a general basis, P90s are like a fat sounding Telecaster bridge pickup on steroids - a lovely blend of fat yet spiky.
Paul I think joe Glaser in Nashville makes a bridge piece for that guitar that greatly improves intonation. It might just be for juniors and other wrap tail guitars. But I think he makes something for 52 style also.
Hey Paul, another great video. Beautiful playing! My vote is for the Hornet. By the way, the bridge that I have heard of to help fix the '52 Goldtop is made by Mojoaxe. I know it was designed for an actual '52, but it may work for your guitar as well. I've always wanted a P90 Goldtop myself. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
Thank you David, and Happy Holidays to you too! 👍. Yeah, a few people are recommending mojoaxe.... I’ve had a look on Google & TH-cam. Yes, that seems like the one I’ll buy (although I might leave it as it is, if it continues to feel secure). Cheers David
I haven’t even watched to the second pedal... yet... and wow. Yeah the Hornet sounds fantastic but, those tasty licks and note choices. Can somebody say PHRASING?!? You got it dude. Awesome playing my friend.
Great tones! Have you considered acquiring a Zonk Machine clone? Those sound less "splattery" compared to other fuzz types and I thought it may sound amazing with your playing style.
Hi again Turgut. I’ve just had a look at the Zonk Machine clone on TH-cam. Yeah, it sounds great! And good with humbuckers too. In addition, my research on the Zonk has led me to discover a great TH-cam guitarist - Tony Martinez - he was demo’ing the Zonk. Cheers Turgut 👍
Did I hear a sneaky Chris Buck type lick at around 4.40 👌 the more I hear you play the more inspired I am to pick up my guitar. Beautiful playing man👏👏
Hello my friend. Another really entertaining and cool video from you. I find your videos to be a source of inspiration :-) One thing I find interesting with guitarists and Fuzz pedals, is the need to have it clean up on lower volumes from the guitar. I see that it is very handy and in many's arsenal to utilise the variation between full on fuzz and being able to roll back the volume to get to a more clean tone. However I find that the fuzz pedal, when rolled down to a clean tone - is a bit away from the clean tone that I have spent a lifetime to get to with my guitar, pedals and amp. So for me, I really don't spend so much time on worrying about the clean tone from my fuzz pedal, because as I see it there is an on/off switch on the thing :-D That said, I thought the rolled of volume on the rusty pedal was quite something. Just a tad grit. That's the sound! But I think I like the full on fuzz tone from the Greer one better. For me it takes up a bit too much real estate on the pedal board. Too bad. I have Scott McKeon's SM Fuzz on my board. It can be marvelous - but I usually strive to have it sit good in a band mix and it is a bit tricky to dial in the tone. So now you got me wondering if I should start looking for something in the Greer tone area - if I can find it in a smaller box...
Thank you for the compliment Thor, delighted you’re still tuning in to my wee show 😀. I chose the Greer after hearing it as part of a recent Fuzz shootout on the Andertons channel. You mention a smaller footprint..... yeah, it’s quite wide isn’t it. Another fuzz from the same shootout (with a smaller footprint) was the Electro Harmonix Octavix - that sounded great too. Ah, too many rabbit holes 🤣
Paul mate, I don't have anymore space on my board, you're killing me! Lol... I'm really sorry for the les paul, I reccon if you stick to the same gauge string it'll be fine.. Enjoy that glass of wine, cheers!
Ha ha, yeah I’ve had to do some pedal shuffling myself, to make space! Anyway, I’m sure you’ll be happy for a while with your Rumble drive - it’s an awesome sounding pedal. Cheers Krenar
I liked the Rusty fuzz flat out, but I like fuzz to be full on. The Hornet is clearly a quality pedal and I love the graphics Greer use on their pedals. Gary Clark jnr is a contemporary guitarist who uses a gnarly octave fuzz to great effect...full on fuzz mayhem sometimes. As others have pointed out, you really need a Germanium " fuzz face "if you want a fuzz that cleans up really well . Oh, and Paul, just put the spanner down.....and back away.
Ha ha, ok, spanner is down, I’ve backed up a few steps.... deep breaths... walking away 🤣. Cheers for the heads up on the fuzz faces. And now I’m off to do some research on Gary Clark Jnr. Cheers Plantagenant
Thanks Dan 👍. And cheers for the info on my intonation issue. It’s funny, I’ve heard the name Joe Glaser so many times. Seems he’s the tech to the stars (Robben Ford and countless others). My Gold Top was made in 2009, the year of Les’s death. So Gibson made just over 500 tribute 1952 models. I really love it.
@@paulstaffordcook8799 all you guys both kind of slide into tones in a similar way definitely distinctive Styles but you both slide into tones from OneNote to another you kind of slide in to notes sometimes which is unique
Thank you JSpic 👍. Good idea, I’ll definitely be doing another “latest evolution of my pedal board” video soon, so I’ll include the Freqout settings. But since you’re interested, I have the toggles for “Momentary” and “Dry” both in the upward position. Gain set fairly low (11 o’clock), Onset is set low (7 o’clock), and the “Type” is either Natural High or Natural Low, depending on my mood. But the secret sauce is coming off the pedal a little when the feedback starts and maybe returning for a second press. Makes it more like the coming and going of a player twisting his/her body away from a squealing amp on stage 🤣
Thanks Massimiliano - the Pinot was lovely! As regards pedal order, there’s nothing mentioned by Greer as to where it should go... but I’m going on the well accepted guideline that fuzzes should come first, (or straight after the Tuner). I’ve not tried it anywhere else. Cheers 👍

Hi paul! What is the year of your gibson goldtop is it a relic or a original '54? I have a custom shop from the early 90's with wraparound tailpiece. And it has great internation. Cheers! Mate! 😎
Hi Gordon. Glad to hear your wraparound intonates well. My Gold Top was made in 2009, the year of Les’s death. So Gibson did a tribute run of around 500 Gold Tops, the ‘52 model. They came with no relic’ing.... and, well that’s just not on! A Gold Top (in my opinion) should wear scars. So I aged it myself, and in so doing have probably halved its value 🤣. But I love it that way. Even with its less than perfect intonation. Cheers for watching 👍
Way back when I started there was only fuzz boxes and I had a red Fuzz Face (Jimi fan - no choice really) and then a blue one both of which got given away as we tended to do with stuff in those days. Once the Distortion+ appeared I thought right! that's it! I never need to go back to the rudeness of fuzz again.... That is why it always amazes me to remind myself of how many fuzzes I actually own. Hahahahahaha To be fair you make 'em both sound great and considering the price difference I think the TC put up a creditable showing, but I must agree the Greer does sound better. If you want a fuzz that really properly cleans up try a ZVex Fuzz Factory. They get super clean as the guitar is turned down but a bit (very really) bright. Probably suit the LP better than a Tele.
