  • evoBOT has two legs with powered wheels at the bottom, along with two arms that have inward facing disc-shaped grip pads at the ends, although it can also be equipped with other types of grippers. When the robot isn't carrying anything, its arm fold down to sit alongside its legs. It can then lean forward and roll at speeds of up to 10 meters per second.
Dual optical cameras, along with other sensors and mapping systems, allow the robot to autonomously navigate its way through environments such as warehouses, while avoiding obstacles and making its way up ramps, over small ledges, and across uneven terrain. If need be, it can also make itself shorter by stretching out into a horizontal orientation. In this configuration, its powered wheels are at the back, while unpowered caster wheels on the undersides of its extended arms are at the front.

I love how it looks so futuristic yet it has 4 tennis balls attached to it.

Brilliant. Absolutely. There's such insufficient structures volume for every mechatronic parts inside and the result is great! Congrats!

Surely carrying a load so far outside the robot's centre of gravity is a power-wasting strategy.

      No, its not.
      1. Once the arms don't move, they are locked up. No Power necessary to keep position.
      2. The combined center of gravity is ALWAYS directly above the wheels (if not accelerating). When the robot is balancing at standstill, the drives consume almost no power. It can stand for days.

@@blank_3773 Thank you for your reply, the mass distribution in the Bot is clearly very different to what appearances suggest. Thanks for the correction and good luck.

That’s exactly what I was thinking, it needs a 3rd leg so it’s not constantly wasting energy trying to balance itself. Seems like it needs a redesign, self balancing seems like a waste for this application. 🤷🤷
