This was extremely sad! Me and my wife and kids was on the ship and just got back home. Lee announced last night around 3insh that a man was overboard, and the 6 deck and the 12th and 14th decks had people running up and down the hallways screaming and freaking out. On top of everything that was going on someone made up a story before they confirmed it was a gentleman in his 40s that it was a 11 year old girl that was dared to jump and she was the one overboard. But clearly that was false! Between both carnival ships and the coastguard boat and coastguard helicopter they was unable to find him as of 10am this morning. When we got off the ship that was the last update. Prayers go out to the family and whoever else this tagedy may be affecting! 🙏

Every person going on a ship should know what to do if they see someone go overboard.
It should be explained by crew, on signs. Basically sing out, grab ring buoy (anything that floats, ideally bright colored) toss it toward person in water.
Even if they cankt get to it. It will float similar to person. (Wind, currents…) and try to keep your eyes firmly on person in water.

    • @jaredrosen7336

That is why when me and my brother saw it we immediately ran to guest services, however what everyone avoids mentioning is that it took two hours after we reported for the search to even begin. We ran through the ship screaming, but nobody immediately believed. It is sad how it took them so long to believe us and start the search even after a family member of the passenger reported him missing. We were on our balcony which doesn’t have floatation devices. And at night with limited vision and the speed of the ship you can’t follow a person as they are in the water. I feel deeply for the brother who we ran into in the stairwell.

My dad left his last week and someone had to email us a photo and print it off and they accept it . I don’t have my passport and I’ve only used my birth certificate to cruise . I’ve been cruising since I was 17 and I’m 31 now . So far I’ve been on Disney , Royal Caribbean, and Carnival and they’ve all accepted our birth certificates. Hoping you made it on the ship with mo issues ! 🚢

I used to work for the office of Vital Statistics here in Jacksonville Florida, and if you've gotten a birth certificate to get a passport in 2012 that same birth certificate should be valid enough to get you on board of a ship and to renew your passport. Now if you made a copy of your birth certificate then you can't use that but the one you got in 2012 should've been printed on security paper issued by the secret service and has a raised seal on it.

The search wasn't called off, but the U.S. Coast Guard relieved Mardi Gras and Carnival Elation after they got at least one (eventually two) small cutters and a fixed-wing aircraft into the area. One of the cutters was USCGC Ibis and I think the other was the Finback.
