Realworld Speed Trap: Adaptiv TPX Laser Jammer & Uniden R8 vs Dragon Eye Compact

- On our way back from our visit at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, we get shot unexpectedly with a Dragon Eye Compact police lidar from an overpass while traveling in excess of 20mph over the PSL.
The laser jammer we were using on this trip was the new TPX Automotive Laser Jammer and Parking Sensor and once again it proved its capabilities even against the difficult to jam DEC.
Our daily driver, the Uniden R8, also turned in a great performance quickly detecting and alerting to the use of the DEC police laser.

Be prepared for that double stop. When my now wife and I were dating, she was coming up to visit me on vacations. I had discussed with her if a cop pulled someone over ahead of her and then signaled her to pull over, to wave and just keep going. On one of her trips she was leading the pack, and then decided to slow down a bit, the car behind her took the lead. They came over a hill and the cop was there, pulled in behind the first car and pulled him over. When the cop got of the car he waved for my girlfriend to pull over. She waved, and later told me he didn't come after her. The best protection is having good SA.

My city shoot laser 1/4 to 1/8 mile nothing like your videos distance wise and shooting only 1 or 2 sec bursts , I too have the new TPX laser jammer which saved me twice already .
Maybe the state should put some more money into repaving that tarmac rather than buying expensive lidar guns?

If a cop can’t get a reading they will likely pull you over, as jammers in some places are illegal. It is suggested people install a kill switch, so when they know the jammer is in effect slow down to correct speed, then use kill switch otherwise in some countries you could get the car impounded. No reading would give them probable cause to look at the vehicle closer in most places.
Don’t use them in Virginia for example.
I only add this as most countries they are illegal, America most states do seem to allow them.

If I recall, a fair amount of time had transpired and I thought the encounter was basically over until I saw him coming up behind me so I restarted the video.
The moment of panic when the cop pulled out, after the jump cut the RD was gone 😂 Gotta make the traffic stop as easy as possible if he was coming after you
Do you find that the laser sensitivity on the r8 is better than the r7? Also do you have rear heads set up with the Tpx or just front?
Sorry for the late reply. No rear heads. I would say similar in terms of sensitivity.

I was watching to see the trapping part, I expected to see someone change a 50 sign to a 40 like the sheriff used to do on Dukes of Hazard. Didn't see anyone being trapped into speeding here though.🤷♀😆
Cities across California lower & raise speed limits depending on the state budget deficit. We're 68 Billion in the hole, speed limits have been lowered 5-10mph already.
You didn't bother mentioning the fact that your R8 was alerting to TruCam after alerting to Dragoneye Compact in the first pass and the second pass it alerted to TruCam and Laser Ally. I've played around with my PL3 and shot it from a weird angle while inside my car and caused my R8 to alert to Dragoneye Compact. I'm not sure if I believe this is a real Dragoneye encounter also given the fact that Arizona has no reported DE. Too bad the TPX doesn't ID the guns.

If you slowed down immediately upon the R8 alerting would that decrease chance of getting stopped or is it too late at that point and only jammer could save you? Once detected speed already logged by the gun? Great video, enjoyed!
By the time your radar / laser DETECTOR alerts to LIDAR, you're caught. LIDAR guns lock VERY guickly (less than a second or two depending on conditions).

Depends. At greater distances it’s possible to react in time. I was once targeted from a far distance and immediately changed lanes. This forced the officer to re-aim. I didn’t get a ticket.
Of course I use Veil as it reduces laser reflections, so everything helps.
But generally, close range, you are cooked.
Is veil an additional detector? Are dragon eye and r 8 two different detectors? I want to learn, new to this technology and very interested!

What speed where you going when you got lazered? Just trying to determine how you know the jammer worked. Good video. To the haters, the van should have known the Mercedes slowed way down. A simple glance to the right by the driver of the van and he would have seen the detector. The ticket is on the driver of the van. Not the driver of the Mercedes. I always thought sharing one’s countermeasures can get one in trouble as well?

Great job on the radar and laser detectors but definitely looks like some bad highways lots of broken pavement and potholes. Wow.

how come ya took the radar off? are they not allowed in your state? i know US are very strict completely legal here to have them but no Laser Jammers
Only illegal in State of Mississippi, Virginia and US Capitol Washington DC.
He probably removed it, as precaution. If police see radar detector, police will wonder why does person need one, or is that device the reason they didn't record speed (received error).
Laser jammers are banned in several states around the US, as well as Washington D.C. Here is the list of where laser jammers are illegal in the US:

It's a great detector, although it doesn't have arrows the range is amazing and the filtering is really good too. Plus if you have a lot of traffic light sensors in your town the gps lockouts are really helpful.
Good detector. Made by the the company owned by Uniden. My personal preference is Uniden products, but still a good detector. I like it’s new fangled power cord and nice large front display. Sensitivity is similar to the R4 although it doesn’t use an LNA like the R4 or R8.
This may be a very stupid question but will both those work against rcmp to idk if Canada uses the same things the American cops do?

Why did you take the radar detector off the windshield
Instant ticket for the full ride (aka no break given) if most LEO's running traffic stop you for speeding and see a radar detector.
what is better the uniden R8 or the Escort Red line 360?
Our preference is the R8. The RL 360’s erratic K-band alerting performance makes it challenging to rely on it. Escort can fix it if they make it a priority.

A small company produced Laser Gun that is notoriously hard to jam. Not a super common laser gun to run into.

R3 is a super detector at a terrific price.
I have a uniden r3 which has paid for itself roughly 10 times in potential tickets by now.
Definitely, mine has saved me. It works amazingly. Just doesn't have arrows which i don't care
Love my R3-had since 2017/2018-it’s my daily driver. It’s an amazing detector. May get an R7/R8 and try the arrows.

No sir. We are testing out the new TMG Alpha-17 over the last two weeks, so no Veil at the moment. Just the TPX and R8 operating.

Don’t believe so.
My R7 speaker was going the past week and CRAPPED out yesterday afternoon. (Really inconvenient since I had a hour and half trip up Garden State Parkway for work trip & it crapped out AT start up.) I CANNOT justify OVER A MONTH for repair sending it to Uniden. 😂 And because in too nice I always give my older detectors away to needy friends.
Although slowing down a lot in my 40s I like to do a steady 90. And (knock on wood) have 0 speeding tickets in life thanks to radar detectors. But the r7 had been my FAV for highway driving since i got it end of 2019.
🤔 Is there anyone here who has used both r7 and r8 ? Mainly NJ highway driving & around town.
Im getting conflicting to reviews online. Some say r7 hits first and others r8. Same with range detection.
Would be super helpful to get some input here.....

The R8 is more sensitive, however RDs can alert at different times for a host of reasons.
We don’t recommend running two together if you are looking to do direct comparisons to make such specific judgements on performance because of crosstalk potential.

This is so cool I talked to Robert the other day on the phone this guy is so cool we talked about radar detectors and veilg6 and about radar detectors back in the 1980s my first radar detector was the original escort I also owned the cobra 3170 ultra which was the best radar detector cobra ever came out with Robert is a straight forward kinda guy he's has all the honest answers if you have questions about radar detectors laser jammer and the veilg6 I only trust this man and you all should you rock Robert keep up the awesome job

Instead of staying ahead and let other diver know there was laser ahead, you let him go ahead knowing he's going to get a speeding ticket and not you. That was really disgusting move! 👎

2 weeks ago myself and a Corvette (stranger) were trekking down highway in NJ where I live. We took turns few times leading depending on who got stuck diff places on a 2 hour drive. (ya know how ppl can't understand the stay right, pass left thing .)
I was getting off exit right BEFORE Atlantic City and he was still going. My R7 went off.... his detector hadn't. (Or he didnt HAVE one.) I flashed my lights 2 times at him RIGHT before getting into right lane to get off at next exit half mile away.
U know that cop got off the exit to pull ME over instead of the Corvette doing between 95-100.
He said its "Obstruction of Justice." I said i was sorry & didn't know it was illegal. (Which if course I did know.) 😂 🤷♀️
LUCKILY have a family member badge for NYPD & he let did me go right away..... but damn. Never had that happen warning someone before.
Would I do it again, sure. No prob warning ppl of impeding doom ahead lol. But I do ALSO understand the mindset of ppl taking responsibility for themselves. If u wana do 100 on highways, u should PROB invest in a radar detector lol.
It’s called situational awareness. The driver came up behind me very close. It’s not my job to brake check them and then somehow try to signal (in Morse code?) that there was a potential trap ahead? I didn’t know he was still there targeting until I got lasered. If we were driving more as a team versus this guy staying in the left lane the entire time, things may have been different.
People fly up the left lane then ride your bumper, he did him a courtesy by moving over and letting him by, the van had no idea a cop was ahead and under normal circumstances neither would the guy recording this video
If you don’t speed and break the law, you won’t have any problems stop breaking the law
Not law, private stature rules that is voluntary to join at one's discretion... or sheer involuntary ignorance. Register your vehicle (donate it to state) or sign a contract agreeing to abide by their private rules (sign drivers license form), then you are subject to their private games.
